As a result of our indepth discussion, for IGC 1.6 Kurland will now be a province of the Teutonic Order in the beginning. This means, we would have another tag free. At present, Kurland can emerge through revolts. But there are additional options... :)

I made this sticky for just a few days. I removed other 'stickies', which were not frequented quite often. In the next version IGC 1.6 there will be the FAQ included, so that I will remove the stickiness from it then also... :)

belgium, hah

Belgium was (and is) never a revolting nation (there was a small revolt at the end of the 18th century, but of no or very little importance). It was a state, created only in 1830.
I don't agree it should be a possible revolter.

Transsylvania? Played a role as Turkish vassal _and_ Protestant ally in thirty yrs war.

Right now I think we should 'bank' the tag and keep it in case we come across other compelling nation-states. The border lands of Turkey for example were mentioned in the Province thread as needing some scrutiny. Each time a region is looked at it sems the IDC may need a tag. This one should maybe be tabled for a while unless there is clear and convincing need for its use now.

Lets redo this.

How about Serbia? They were still around in 1492.

Cheers Hartmann. Bremen is ready.

Cheers, Jeremy, that´s superb! :) I have another request/question. Whereas all shields are great, I think there´s a little oddity with the Ragusan shields. They look 'flat'. I have no experience in the art of graphics, but could it be due to the stripes being too accurately straight?. Are there any methods to improve the impression of depth with them?

All the best, Hartmann

About Serbia: Whereas I would love to implement Serbia, we also have to consider that we already *have* implemented FOUR new orthodox countries for the IGC:

-Novgorod
-Greece
-Ryazan
-Ethiopia

That´s why I want to look for other options first. But o.k., You convinced me: I will edit the poll to include Serbia and Bulgaria. :)

List of possible new countries

I list here countries that could be added, to make a kind of reserve (for whenever we get a new tag). These lists doesn't include the countries already in the game, is not exhaustiv (how could I have one ?) and list only european countries (I don't know much outside of Europe).

Countries that existed in 1492, but are not represented in the game :

Eire (the five provinces of Ireland except for Dublin)
Bretagne (Bretagne, Armor, Morbihan, Vendee)
Alsace (Alsace)
Aragon (all spanish initial provinces east of Aragon and Valencia, with all the italian and mediterranean islands, but without Low countries and Franche-Comte)
Division of Morocco in Fes (Morocco) and Marrakech (Toubal and Sahara) kingdoms
Gelre (todday's Gelderland, approximately province Holland)
Friesen (Friesen)
Mecklenburg and Pommern (Mecklenburg and both Pommerania provinces)
German independant (arch)bishoprics (Bremen, Munster, Salzburg, Mainz, Magdeburg, etc.) (all provinces with corresponding names)
Oldenburg (Oldenburg)
Mantua (Mantua)
Luca (Luca)
Montenegro (approximately Kosovo, but maybe to approximativ)
Lithuania (all polish provinces east of Dniepr and Dvina rivers, plus Bessarabia, Lithuania, Belarus and Pripet)
Dulkadir (Sivas)
Ramadan (Adana)

Countries that existed during the 3 centuries of the game but not in 1492 (I haven't been able to find much of them, I think there should be more) :

Corsica (Corsica)
Transylvania (Maros)

Best regards

Raf

Why not take out Novgorod and add in Serbia as a possible revolter. I think this would be a lot more interesting.

Re: List of possible new countries

Thanks for the list, Raf! :)

Some comments:

Eire (the five provinces of Ireland except for Dublin)

Tag is already there. Should it be implemented as existing right away?

Bretagne (Bretagne, Armor, Morbihan, Vendee)

We had a inconclusive discussion about this once. Implement it as vassal of France or not?

Alsace (Alsace)

Divide Lorraine in Alsace and Lorraine? (Tags!)

Aragon (all spanish initial provinces east of Aragon and Valencia, with all the italian and mediterranean islands, but without Low countries and Franche-Comte)

Probably not, because of gameplay reasons.

Division of Morocco in Fes (Morocco) and Marrakech (Toubal and Sahara) kingdoms

With more tags,yes... at the moment it´s an inevitable abstraction, I think.

Gelre (todday's Gelderland, approximately province Holland)

Would conflict with the emergence of Netherlands.

Friesen (Friesen)

dito.

Mecklenburg and Pommern (Mecklenburg and both Pommerania provinces)

I already have Pommern in the newest version. Mecklenburg would require also Bremen. But it´s one of my favorite options.

German independant (arch)bishoprics (Bremen, Munster, Salzburg, Mainz, Magdeburg, etc.) (all provinces with corresponding names)
Oldenburg (Oldenburg)
Mantua (Mantua)
Luca (Luca)
Montenegro (approximately Kosovo, but maybe to approximativ)

Tags, tags, tags .... give em to me! ;)

Lithuania (all polish provinces east of Dniepr and Dvina rivers, plus Bessarabia, Lithuania, Belarus and Pripet)

Would be cool in principle, but same as with Spain. Someone should try it in an extra scenario.

Dulkadir (Sivas)
Ramadan (Adana)

Provinces are the problem here. They are not provided and/or badly drawn. We could only use Adana, I think, but this also wouldn´t 'look' right.

No way, mate! There are many people, who especially love Novgorod. :) Also Russia needs at least SOME problems with revolts.

Hartmann

Actually, Hartmann, this list is not the list of the countries that should be implemented, but a list in which to pick up the most interesting country for available tags. Of course, I can't provide TAGs for every countries.

Bye
