As I am thinking of trying out MP eventually (in summer that is) I would like to hear which country you all think I should specialize in. It should be one of the countries least played by people (so that I have a chance of finding a mp-group to play with) and also not one of the biggest players, like germany, which needs to be played by someone experienced I think.

I was thinking Italy. Seems like most people do not play them that much and they do not really pose much of a threat to anyone without germany already in the war.

Is italy a good choice of a "beginners"-mp-country? Could you perhaps give some slight hints of which way a mp-game normally goes so that I know what I need to train. For example, do Italy focus on the mediterean area and africa only, or should I be experimenting with invading uk and the usa too?

Italy is among the hardest nations to play. But yes it's the best to specialize in since no one wants to play them. If I where you I would just give up afrika, because when Italy is played by a beginner it ALWAYS end up losing a lot of divs in afrika (20-40 divs).
Would be better if you just focus on getting as much inf as possibel to guard germanys beaches in europe to let Germany get as much untis as possibel free for invanding USSR. Forget about invading UK/USA it's just possibel in a singel game.
And don't forget to get as many air docs as possibel until the tech team Bilbao dies in 1940.

Hmm, hardest to play? Well then I have got a reason why I am loosing all the time ;)...
But what does it take to wage a successful war in north africa? Doing beach defence of germany seems rather dull I must say so I would like to keep the option of africa open.

If I would decide (against your advice) to go for africa, what is the most difficult part about it? Not having naval supremacy? Not having enough troops in africa? Not having enough air supor? Convoys not getting through?

no airsup, no naval sup, no tanks, low infra, desert, low airbases level, heavy equipment :)

specialize ? depends if you prefer naval, air or land fights

Alright, so everything is speaking against me, I can see that. But perhaps you have got a small tp or two what I can do increase my chance of victory.

I do prefer Land and air combat over naval, but that is probably because I have been playing germany so much I dont really know anything else. As italy it feels like you have to invest a little in all areas, not specializing, but gerenralizing...

Try one of the minors like hungary, canada, or brazil. You should easily get a game playing one of those. Hungary is a great choice for a minor. Brazil is my personal favorite minor. You can easily join any alliance, and have multiple paths to choose from.

Thanks Hiensen. I may grab that as part of my new sig. BTW, great sig you got there.

I think it's best to try and learn every major power for both the axis and allies. This way you learn the game in a more balanced way. Personally I've been dabbing around with all the major powers for over 1.5 years and I'm always learning something new. I guess that's the beauty of this game. Nothing like losing and learning! :)

lol, that's a fashion actually :p

bah KtII, he thinks about playing his first mp, you really think it's a good idea to let him play germany, uk or ussr as first choice ? pfff
better for him to take a minor, learn and see then be responsible to a frontline or some battles.See a game fucked because of a newbie collapse, no thanks kingtiger !

I do see the point KngTigerII made about playing all the major powers. That way you get to learn what strengths and weaknesses every country have, and get to use that knowledge playing against them. At the moment I went with Italy (after only playing germany alot) and auch! Italy has got some seriously crappy researchteams and not really in a good position to do anything but fight for its survival in the med...

Will play italy a few times I guess and then move on to some of the other major powers. Think I will be ready for mp when HOI4 comes out... :p

Games fall apart anyways, so what does it really matter?? We all have to learn somehow!! Bah Hiensen! Playing a minor is boring and makes me want to sleep....lolll

I am normally specialised in Germany and Rusia.

I believe that you should begin playing minors in MP like Hungary, Romania, Canada, then Italy. and once seen you are able to take a real major power, you coudl be ger, rusia, UK...

It woudl be good if you try a MP being a major power against ppl who had a similar level than you, or having an expert in every side the which could give you the needed advices during the game.

Italy veteran in MP

One word.

Mountaineers.

You have sub par leaders, sub par techteams and not much going for you, but...

italy have a boatload of commando leaders, meaning that those troops are going to have another 10% more in combaet efficiency than your other divisions. (given by the leader trait bonus)

In mp with good cooperation with the german player you can add a lot of pressure towards USSR in the mountains betweeb turkey and SOV.

First of all, the axis need to set a priority, early barbarossa or closing the med first.

Italy is fun in mp, of you do it right, you can really improve the axis war effort, and if you fail, all is not lost. Its a win win situation ;)

For myself, I have just graduated to play sov in our game starting tonight :D
