While We Still Stand II

NubiaII1.jpg

A Nubian, standing. It's what they do best.

Coming soon to an AAR forum near you, using the April 15th beta patch on Normal/Normal (come on, it's Nubia). My goal: to survive past 1071. I've been playing a game as the Duchy of Orkney with this patch and the Fatimids exploded before the turn of the century, so let's go Nubia!

While We Still Stand II

Episode 1: 1066-1073

Nubia2.jpg

Here is the king. Lovely chap, so I heard.

January 6th 1067: I appoint my wife Spy Mistress, Tarifa Mustafa gets the honour of being steward and the lovely Mahdi Ali is made chancellor. I know I should have done this as soon as the game started but I didn't, OK!?!

Nub12.jpg

My chancellor.

January 8th 1067: Sudan becomes prosperous. Yay!

February 5th 1067: Safiya becomes Midas-touched. Hey, only Haroun is allowed to touch her... um, I mean goody! I appoint her steward and Tarifa Mustafa is made spy master.

February 27th 1067:

Nub11.jpg

You don't how good this feels.

September 22nd 1067: Divine rights in Sudan. Nice.

November 26th 1067: Haroun and Safiya have a son, named Walid. There's no point showing a picture, he'll be dead in a few years. Oh well.

March 14th 1068: I finally get 100 gold and begin a training ground in Sudan. We'll need those extra troops for when we conquer the world- Hey, who's laughing, don't think I can't hear you!! Oh, it's everyone. Sigh.

March 16th 1068: Haroun and Safiya expecting.

October 8th 1068: At this point I notice that several Fatimid provinces have declared independence. None that we can take though...

November 27th 1068: Chronicle writing in Nubia. Great, although any chronicles written at this point would be pretty dull, I should imagine.

December 15th 1068: Haroun and Safiya have a child, Abdul-Sammad.

Nub9.jpg

Nubia's future, such as it is.

January 13th 1069: Longbow in Sudan. Ok, ok, but to be honest I want battering rams. Where are my battering rams!

March 13th 1069: Training grounds completed in Sudan. Young Nubian soldiers prepare for war in a nice relaxing desert environment. Advantage, Nubia!

October 1st 1069: Quite an eventful day, this. Chancellor Mahdi died, and Yahya Abdul takes on the role. Also, work begins on a forestry in Sudan. No one seems to notice that it is a desert. No trees, duh!

October 23rd 1069: Walid dies. I don't care, he had crappy marshal stat (0)

May 28th 1070: Chronicle writing in Sudan.

June 9th 1070: The clergy demands the right to collect extra tithes on free peasants. What, there are free peasants!?! This cannot be tolerated! Oh, I accept by the way.

June 14th 1070: Haroun and Safiya expecting a child. Sweet.

September 22nd 1070: Longbow in Nubia.

October 1st 1070: Forestry completed in Sudan. It makes money cutting down cacti.

February 18th 1071: Haroun and Safiya had a daughter, named Tarifa.

March 25th 1071: I get an offer of marriage. Well, I'm flattered- Oh, it's for some woman in my court with crap stats. I accept, I could use the prestige.

May 21st 1071: Haroun and Safiya expecting.

August 16th 1071: I begin training grounds in Nubia. Those pesky Muslims will not stand a chance!!

December 9th 1071: Apparently those silly folks in Sudan don't know their turnips from their tomatoes, leading to the formally prosperous provinces ceasing to be. Idiots.

February 20th 1072:

Nub6.jpg

Ah. Well, I'll miss her... stats. Still, this opens a whole world of opportunities. Well, maybe not a whole world, lets say a small area of a tiny continent. If that. Nods.

March 19th 1072: Opportunity knocks!

Nub5.jpg

The sheikdom of Tabuk has declared independence. I think a war is on the cards. Although, where's my army gone!?! I can only raise 600 odd troops, whereas it said I had a manpower of 1400 a couple of months ago! Grumbles.

April 5th 1072: A claim holder called Tariq arrives at my court. I notice I don't have a Spy Master so he is appointed.

April 30th 1072: I begin a siege of Tabuk.

October 9th 1072: The sheikdom of Canarias declare war, for some reason. I reach for the vodka.

January 17th 1073: We discover romantic poetry in Sudan. It's at this point I notice that the Fatties haven't invaded. Well ain't that something?

February 9th 1073: Apparently the heathens are splintered. I go for a white peace... calm down dear, it's peace with Canarias!

March 5th 1073: We discover the two fields system in Nubia. Well, when I say fields I mean remote deserts. Fields?? In Nubia?? Ha!

October 4th 1073: Divine rights in Nubia. Whatever.

November 2nd 1073:

NubiaII3.jpg

NubiaII2.jpg

Now we are an empire. I can hear that laughing again...

November 29th 1073: We discover the mysterious technology of stonepit in Tabuk. Those crazy muslims!

Good start (meaning better than being annexed) but where is Tabuk? I don't remember....and are the Fatimids a different political map color in the betas which I don't use?

Tabuk is on the Arabian sea, a few provinces north of Mecca. Maybe I should include a map of the wider region? As for the Fatimids, to be honest I can't remember what colour they are in 1.04a, but yes, in the betas they are a nice pea green.

Ah, that's what I thought. But I'm used to the surrounding Fatimids being a sort of cerulean.

While We Still Stand II

Episode 2: 1074-1077

12.jpg

I don't know what this is, but it's Nubian.

Goals: Secure access to the Mediterranean, survive. You know the score.

July 10th 1074: Two fields system in Sudan.

July 12th 1074: Salt refinery in Tabuk.

July 17th 1074: Chancellor Yahya gets depressed. I don't blame him, to be honest. Can you imagine being chancellor in an orthodox country isolated from all it's friends? Poor chap.

July 23rd 1074: Battering ram in Sudan. About bloody time! As you may have guessed, July is peak season in Nubia. You get no advances in seven months then three come along at once.

April 26th 1075: DEUS VULT!! Crusade to Alexandria. Which is owned by the Fatimids. Who can raise 22,000 men as opposed to our 1,200. Hmm, let me think, I think I'll pass on that one. Hang on, I'm orthodox! I'm my own boss! Excellent.

December 2nd 1075: Annual sailing in Sudan. I assume that means our merchants just go sailing around the Red Sea for a year, it's not as if they can go anywhere else.

January 1st 1076: I have 100 gold in my treasury, so I become Prince of Aswan rather than spending it on a province improvement. I was still drunk from New Year celebrations.

March 6th 1076: The opportunist in me noticed tht the sheikdom of Al Jawf has declared independence. I smell blood... I cut my lip this morning. It's stinks, don't you know?

March 21st 1076: I mobilise my mighty army (cough) and send them to Tabuk in preparation.

Nub20.jpg

Anywhere other than the Red Sea and this would be considered strange.

With an army that can walk on water, what could go wrong? Um...

May 21st 1076: I declare war on the sheikdom of Al Jawf, expecting a simple and easy conquest. Al Jawf are allied with Irbid. Irbid are a vassal of the Fatimids, who declare war. Shit, shit shittily shit!!! Aargh, idiot! I get the feeling that I am more screwed than a cork in a shortly to be opened bottle of wine.

June 12th 1076: We win a battle in Al Jawf and begin a siege. Those nasty Fatimids are hiding, I just know it. They are out to get me, the dastards.

July 14th 1076: Halleluliah, rejoice, there is a God! I optimistically offer the Fatimids a white peace and they ACCEPT! Phew!

Nub19.jpg

I actually did a little dance when this message popped up.

September 14th 1076: Tafifa begins a court education.

Nub18.jpg

September 28th 1076: Al Jawf taken. Well, I got out of that lightly. However, I get the feeling that the Muslims won't like my growing power.

February 14th 1077: Chancellor Yahdi commits suicide, and is replaced by a courtier called by Hamdan Najeeb.

Nub17.jpg

My new chancellor. Not too impressive.

June 25th 1077: More opportunism, but I am more cautious this time

Nub16.jpg

Farama will provide us with access to the Med, meaning Haroun can finally go to Benidorm for his holidays.

August 24th 1077:

Nub15.jpg

The siege commences in Farama.

September 9th 1077: The sheikdom of El-Arish offer an alliance and I accept. I was actually planning on conquering these guys next but an alliance is an alliance.

November 3rd 1077: Forestry sold in Sudan due to lack of funds. Not funny.

December 1st 1077: Farama taken. Our Red Sea empire is growing.

Nub14.jpg

December 18th 1077: Emirate of Medina declare war. Why do these things always happen to me!?! I mean, my Nubia just wants peace, love and bloody conquest, what's so wrong with that?

December 29th 1077: The Sudanese regiment arrives in Nubia, and begins its journey, a journey of fate, a voyage of destiny. In other words, folks, this war will make or break the growing Kingdom of Nubia. Onwards you warriors of the desert! etc.

So, will Fiftypence be able to overcome the evil Emir of Medina? Tune in next time to find out!

Hurrah! Onwards brave Nubian Soldiers!

You seem to be having good luck with breakaway sheikdoms- it took me 80 years to find any rebelling from the Fatimids. Anyway, your demense looks a tad big, that might be causing the lack of funds. Any courtiers you can give land?

Well, with an intriuge of 7, and a king title, I would think that he would have a pretty good demense limit. If he needs to give some land away, I'd suggest either giving it to his son, or that new chancellor. Well, excellent job so far. Good luck, you'll probably need it :p .

Andrzej I said:

Shurely you mean shtewardship?

the_shy_kid: In April 15th beta the Fatimids fall apart quite quickly. My demesne limit is 7, so I'm ok for the time being. The lack of funds is due to owning dirt-poor provinces.

Andrzej I: I'll give land to vassals once I can adequately protect it. As for good luck, yes, I will definitely need it :D

Kristian Thy: In the most recent beta demesne limit is dependent on intrigue, not stewardship. Makes the intrigue stat a bit more important.

While We Still Stand II

Episode 3: 1078-1081

Goals: Hold off Medina, increase land in Middle East

Nub27.jpg

February 15th 1078: We won a battle in Medina.

February 19th 1078: The Emirate of Medina accept a white peace. Ok, so here is what happened. I sent my army to Medina, where a 800 man army was sitting looking innocent. When I got to Medina I noticed a rather unfortunate 2,000 man army in Mecca, who began marching my way just as I was about to beat their smaller army. Luckily for me they accepted peace just before the big fat Mecca army arrived. Another great escape for Nubia!

March 14th 1078: Tarifa takes an interest in religion. I select "How Nice".

June 28th 1078: For some reason Tarifa took my support for her religious interest as an excuse to start torturing pets. The Pet-Killers are here!

Nub26.jpg

August 16th 1078: Pet-Killers Anonymous get a new member, with Abdul-Sammad being warmly welcomed by the group.

October 19th 1078: Wood ploughs in Nuvbia. Very useful in the frigging desert.

December 13th 1078: Chickens in Sudan.

July 7th 1079: Basilican structures in Sudan. In the game it says this allows you to buid churches, but it doesn't. Bah!

August 2nd 1079: The province of Farama becomes prosperous. Despite this we still only have a monthly income of 5 gold.

August 21st 1079: Abdul-Sammad begins a cort education at the ridiculous age of 9.

January 3rd 1080: I mobilise my army and send them to Farama. Just a routine exercise (cough).

February 24th. I assemble an army of 1255 men at Farama, and declare war on my ally El-Arish.

Nub25.jpg

The sheik of El-Arish, saddened by my decaration of war.

March 25th 1080: I win a battle in El-Arish and begin a siege.

June 28th 1080: El-Arish taken. I declare war immediately on the sheikdom of Darum, right next door to El-Arish. Archa join the party.

July 26th 1080: Siege commences in Darum.

October 6th 1080: The sheikdom of Sinai declare independence. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Probably not, actually, but anyway.

October 28th 1080: Darum falls. I notice that some Archas have turned up, so I go to eliminate their force and secure peace with them.

Nub24.jpg

November 29th 1080: The Archas are defeated and I accept peace for 49 gold. I declare war on Sinai. Oh well, maybe you were thinking what I was thinking. My mistake.

December 30th 1080: Haroun gets ill. Hope he doesn't die yet.

February 19th 1081: Musical instruments in Sudan.

March 4th 1081: Sinai taken.

March 18th 1081: Steward Mahdi gets ill.

May 2nd 1081: Imamaddin Amin made count of Darum.

Nub21.jpg

My first vassal. I'm so proud!

May 15th 1081: Three fields system in Sudan.

June 5th 1081: A miracle worker very knidly heals Haroun, meaning he is no longer ill. Yay!

November 19th 1081: Spy Master Tariq dies. Hamdan Najeeb replaces him.

Nub22.jpg

Nubia and its environs 1081.

Onward vigin Nubians!

Push forward brave nubilian men.

Well you seem to be doing quite well. I tried Nubia (in the 1.04) afte reading your first Nubia AAR. It was not funny. :p Maybe I'll try again to with the new beta. After I finish my current game, that is

Well it looks like you might manage to pull this one off. Here's breathlessly awaiting a Nubian WC.
