Aren't they called Baratheon in both the series and the mod, and doesn't it kind of validate Stannis's claim? If anything, shouldn't they be a new house, Baratheon-Lannister, since that's how they act in the series (the Baratheon name gives them their legitimacy, the Lannister name their power and authority)?

I think it's to keep Tywin answering their call to arms when needed. And possibly also to keep Renly and Stannis from coming to their aid instead.

Pretty much this, if they are Baratheons Stannis or Renly tend to help out Joffrey in the War of the Five Kings like best pals.

Also they cant have their own house as the dynasty tree would be messed up, this would be because there would be no common ancestor. Also there would be high risk of game over playing as the Lannisters in either scenario.

So you can't give Stannis and Joffrey cadet branches of Baratheon? I mean Baratheon of King's Landing for Joffrey and Baratheon of Dragonstone for Stannis?

But then what would Tommen and Myrcella be?

They still wouldn't have alliances/relationship boosts with Tywin in that case. Indeed, I'd expect Tywin would quite possibly join a faction of some sort right after the Wo5K ended, just due to his ambitious traits, which is nonsensical. I think this is an example of where game mechanics have to trump fidelity to the books.

Quite obviously they would be Baratheon of King's Landing, as Joffrey.

BTW, IIRC they used to be Baratheon but were changed to Lannister only when/if Stannis (maybe Renly, too?) won the war in ACOK bookmark, simulating that Stannis's victory kinda validates the rumor/fact that they are Jaime's bastards*. I assume this has been changed "recently" (it has been a while since I played the mod)?

*Actually shouldn't they be declared having a bastard name, Waters, in that case? They are bastards, after all, not proper Lannisters... Joffrey Waters sound just so funny!

They've been Lannisters since some of the earliest versions of the mod, for all of the reasons outlined above.

No. They used to be Baratheons. They'd turn into Lannisters if they lost the War with Stannis or Renly.

They are born as Baratheons and remain so until 8298.10.28 when they become Lannisters for gameplay/balance reasons. It has been this way since at least version 0.3.

Might be nice if there was an event (at least for players) that let a victorious Joff/Myrcella/Tommen switch to house Baratheon once all of the pretenders were put down.

Wouldn't it have been better if Tywin was just given a relationship bonus like Daenarys has with the "Loyal Servant" bonus for her courtiers rather than switching their dynasty to Lannister?

Isn't there a way to script-enforce the relationship boost/alliance?

I know that for the War of the Ninepenny Kings, all the members of the Band of Nine have a +100 relationship boost with one another.

Too bad it only works when they're independent rulers, so Maelys finds himself being torn apart from within by rebels.

And alliances are unmoddable, so nothing can be done there?
