Hi all,
I'm a bit confused. I have the Kingdom of Ireland (renamed Normandy). In it, I have two theocratic vassals that were created by events. I then elevated them to dukes.
Then I reformed Asatru religion and one of them became my Head of Faith (Asatru starts with no HoF).

But now I notice that the HoF vassal has the 50% penalty for not being rightful liege despite it being in my only kingdom - Dublin no less, the actual rightful capital. The other vassal is normal (he's also my realm priest (temporal, revocable) - I should check if that causes it?)
Anyone know why?

They're duke+ vassals and you're not theocratic. Vassals have a penalty if you're the wrong type of liege and they're not weak baronies who can't do anything about it.

This is a plain de jure thing:
Leinster's primary title (duchy of Leinster) is a de jure part of kingdom of Ireland, so no penalty here.
Bertran's primary title is the Asatru head of Faith title, which is formally a duchy title that does not belong to de jure kingdom of Ireland, hence the penalty - same as if his primary title was any non-Irish duchy, like Cornwall or something.

Here is a similar example: sultan of Magreb holds kindgom (Grand Emirate) of Al-Andalus, so duke (emir) of Cordoba does not has this issue, but duke (emir) of Toledo does have the debuff, because he is the Muwalladi caliph and this is a 'duchy title' that is his primary and that doesn't belong to de jure Al-Andalus:

If I do switch to him and make Toledo his primary title, the debuff goes away:

Now whether this is an intended behavior or an oversight for a weird edge case, that I don't know.

Thanks, this seems to be the answer. HoF is a duchy title with no de jure kingdom above it, so it's impossible to be rightful liege.

So does this mean, it is stupid to give a HoF a landed title or is this only in Feudalism?

Weeeeellllll..... vassal taxes are good and all, but on the other hand: the less they pay you the more they have for building up their realm, raising their development (and subsequently boosting innovation research speed), and I personally like seeing built up prospering holdings rather than backwater lvl 1 places.
