If you're asking if it's possible to start in our own solar system (I think our sun is officially called "Sol"), then yes, they've confirmed that. In fact, if you play as an alien race, there'll be a chance one of the other races in the galaxy will be humanity, which will even start in the Sol system.

I just had the surreal vision of you exploring galaxy and discovering Sol System with humanity... And then second Sol System with another humanity... And next 13 identical Sol Systems and human races...

Damn, now I really want to see a setting where every race is a different take on humanity... "the duality of man" and all that. Starships Troopers style militarist humans up against Star Trek style federationist humans would be pretty interesting.

this could make a very interesting expansion. alternative/mirror/parallel galaxies? time travel that doesn't look like savescumming? the possibilities are endless...
