I've read the BBs but they are not exactly clear on this. What I understand is that all monarchies, and the bigger dynasties will be playable.

Now I would like to see a playable flanders for example.

Ok they were under the feudal reigns of france. Nevertheless this region struggled against the french crown for more then a century. (being dependend on English wool, they always had to make the hard choice between starving or being loyal :D)

Also being a very rich region, they were capable of raising armies which were quit powerfull :)

In other words, is it possible to play smaller regions, counties or duchies?

I dont know much about Flemish history, but I remember there being a change of dynasty 1100s and it eventually ended up in the hands of the d'Alsace/von Chatenois family, who also held the Duchy of Lower Lotharingia (Lorraine). Seems like theyd be big enough to be in the game? Also, wasnt it at times held by the Counts of Hainaut (of Bergen/Mons), who also got the County of Namur and were famous crusaders? So I guess it just depends on the dynasty (ie, if theyre in the game)?

I see no reason why Flanders (or a Flemish Dynasty) shouldn't be playable...:)

How many dynasties were playable, again?

Was there even a Flemish dynasty, or this some fabrication by all the cessationists on this forum?

It's always nice to see some Dutch guy help us poor Flemish out of trouble...;) :D

At leat the chanches of flanders being playable are OK-ish. The same can not be said of holland or gelre. Maybe brabant has better chanches , I just hope for (at least) one playable dynasty in our corner of Europe.:)

Id say youd at least get Brabant, since its Counts were also Dukes of Lower Lotharingia and were closely related to the Kings of England and Germany. They were named by Godfrey IV de Bouillon his heirs and successors, and claimed the Duchy after his death in the Holy Land (c.1100). During the civil war between Staufen & Welfs the Limburgs also claimed the Duchy. The Staufen, who were related to the Counts of Brabant, supported them, while the Welfs supported the Limburgs. Conrad III finally settled the matter in Brabant's favor after he won the throne.

When the Duchy disintegrated after 1190, the Ducal title was retained by them as "Dukes of Brabant" instead of "Dukes of Lower Lotharingia". Since they were one of the most important and powerful dynasties in Lotharingia, Id bet theyre in the game.

I think Flanders should be playable, if not just to stop the whining of all flemish forumers. :) Like me.
Make Flanders playable
Make Flanders playable
Make Flanders playable
Make Flanders playable
Make Flanders playable
et cetera ad infinitum

of course flanders should be playable, if not because we were incredebly rich then because we had a Count that became emperor of Byzantium :p

(making sure we stay fixated on Byzantium, a good EU2 tradition)
:D

Or, let's do it like they did with the sovereign kingdom of Norway in EU II...

Drop Flanders altogether. :p

Then when BiB gets mad... it's in.

Sigh, not this again  :D

As has been stated before, the sovereign dynasties will be playable. The large vassals may be playable, if it works out in testing. If it does work out, then undoubtedly Flanders, as a large and important (but vassal) state, will almost certainly be a playable state. It's not a matter of begging, but seeing if the mechanics of the game allows for playng vassals...

Lol, you should have learned by now that the flanders crowd will never be silenced. They are like a hydra.:D

at the risk of being jumped by a raging norwegian.

What was wrong with Norway in EU II except for it being incredible poor?

Well time will tell if the bigger vasals are playable :)

Then again it would be fun to play flanders, not only because I live in the region but also because there is an intresting struggle that could be played out.

I'm talking about the evolution from feudal to centralised, national states.

Also the difference between being loyal to France (feudal) and being loyal to England (economic).

I can't wait to play the game, be it as France, England, or maybe even Flanders ;)
