Will we be able to play Alexius I Comnenus

This is something which is worrying me. In 1066 the Emperor is Constantine X, Dukas. Unfortunately the Dukas family is not a family from which came many emperors (The only other guy is Alexius V, and he didn't even last a year before the Crusaders killed him) so it might get a bit boring playing them.

Also, as I doubt there will be a scenario (If there are scenarios at all) starting very soon after 1066, I'm worrying that I won't be able to play one of the greatest emperors Byzantium had, as Alexius only gets the throne in 1081.

The question of scenarios is a good one. Don't remember it being mentioned (my menory isn't that good anyway) but so far EU I & II have had scenarios and one would guess that there will be scenarios in CK also.

Good question. I also wonder if you can start with some other family than the Ducas-loosers and still pull of a victory at manzikert. Well alright Romulus was emperor at the time but the question still stands. Perhaps with some marriage alliance it may be possible to pull of though.

You got 5 years to get your act together. If the emperor has any diplomatic skill perhaps several alliances could be made to strengthen your position. It may turn out to be like BYzantium in EU II where everyone ignores your pleas for help and you have to do it on your own. And if you fail you just petition the Pope to send some crusaders.

I confess I don't know what Comnenus was up to in 1066, but is there any reason that you shouldn't be able to play a family that does not control a kingdom, or any territory at all? I don't think I've read anything ruling this out. You could still do a bit of diplomacy, arrange some marriages and hope to get your hands on the throne; meanwhile the game on the ground carries on, in a hands-off way. Would this be any different from a family with a little bit of land in one part of Europe, but legitimate claims on a large bit of land in another part?

Yep, they will piss off the king of Hungary and trash your lands - all just to get to the Infidels. That is unless of course they don't stop at Constantinople permanently.
