Guano Islands played a huge part in late 1800's imperialism and diplomacy.

These islands are mostly a little different than normal territories as they don't usually sustain a population but each mine significantly plays a part in agricultural and military growth.

Maybe once Guano is discovered to your country new spots pop up across the world's oceans for you to attempt to claim and exploit for important military and agricultural bonuses.

Guano in some ways was the 'scramble of the pacific' after the 'scramble for africa' so I think it should get some justice.
