I just bought this game at Software Etc. today. I bring it home, install it, and like a dutiful gamer in today's world I immediately went out to patch it. Found 1.09NA, ran it, and got ready to waste a fine saturday. For my $45, I get to see a SafeDisk logo briefly before I crash out.

From the rest of the forum, it appears this is a known problem, what's the timetable on resolution?
Is there a known fix?

Devin

Might have jumped the gun, even unpatched this game won't work for me...

After an uninstall, manual delete of remaining files, and manual cleanup of remaining registry entries, I tried a plain install. Similar behavior to above except no SafeDisk logo, just a brief 10 seconds spent trying to download and then crashes to desktop.

Are you sure you have the NA version of the game? If that store imports games, you may have the benelux version, so try that patch and see what happens.

One more thing, I really don't like Safedisc etc. No Safedisc games would work with my old sony drive, so I went out and bought a plextor scsi cd drive and now everything works fine with all games.

Hmm... I'll try the Benelux patch... but the game won't open even unpatched. I think I'm glad I bought this at a local store that accepts returns. I already wasted about 8 hours last weekend futzing about with my video card drivers, sound drivers, and anything else that held a remote possibility of solving my problem.

For the rest of you I would really need to know if there is anything you can come to think of in terms of what happened right before the crash. Any dialog popping up? Clicking on anything special?

There where problems with some of the translated text.csv files with missing placeholders (%s, %d, %t etc) and if they have the wrong tag the game will crash.

Hey Patric, glad to see you investigating this. My crashes appear to be random, nothing to do with clicking or with date or even numbers of hours played. Purely and otherly random. I know it will crash when my HDD starts churning, that might help you, maybe.

thanks for all of Paradox's efforts.

Still a great game (though I hardly have time to play these days).

Cheers

Game is going back... _NO_ customer support

Thank god I bought this game at a store which accepts returns. After struggling with it for a week, and trying to contact customer service at any of the three likely locations I found; email address at top of this forum, this forum itself, and Strategy First. I received exactly ZERO response from anyone involved with the company. While a fellow gamer did reply to me, it didn't solve my problem.

Completely worthless. After spending some time perusing this forum and seeing the plethora of crashing bugs, I think maybe it wouldn't be a game I could tolerate anyway. Your company should be ashamed of its customer service department, and if it doesn't have one (the situation as far as I can tell) you should be ashamed of that as well.

I'm sorry to read this. The thing is that we don't have a customer support per se as this is handled by our publishers. We do have this forum where we try to answer as many questions as we can. We are currently 3 people doing this.

Me = Localization Manager/Internal Support/Web Master/InstallShield dev
Oscar = Internal testing
Johan = Lead programmer EU & Sveakampen (upcoming game that he more or less works full time on right now).

Strategy First have a customer support for North America and I usually call that number when I need to get hold of them. The SafeDisc problem is something out of our hands as this is decided by our publisher. They do have quite a few tricks to try with that one. MacroVision themselves doesn't answer any questions from us as we are not customers with them. All the copy protection issues should be cleared with the publisher, not us.
