What is the command line to get HOI to windowed mode instead of full screen? Goes in setting.cfg right?

I know i've read it B4, but can't find it.

PS: any timetable on getting the search function fixed? REALLY REALLY REALLY nice to have that back. there is so much info here that you can't find ...

Search will not be back till Vbb3 is out.

As for windowed mode I just did a search for you and there is no mention of it being available except from Max, he just said "you can" without further explaination.

I wasn't aware it would work in windowed mode.

Uh Oh. jdrou, if you don't know, then maybe my memory is haywire. But i could have sworn that i read a thread where it stated that you needed to add a line into setting.cfg ... something like:

Window_on

but i can't find the reference anymore ...

I recall it being in a bug thread about something totally unconnected. the person stating it said it was a way to help speed up his/her debugging. about 3 months back ... but Castellon did a search and found zip, so now maybe i got it wrong.
 
As I say max seamed to think there was, but I have never heard about it.
 
I don't play many different games but I can't think of any DirectX game offhand that will run in a window.
 
You could PM max and ask for clarification.

I do. Diablo II and Diablo II, Lord of Destruction. Add the -w command line parameter to the shortcut, and it starts the game in windowed mode.

Note that some DirectX features will be disabled this way, among which is gamma correction.

Are you saying this works with HOI?
 
No. Just pointed to a case where it actually works. Thus, DirectX itself allows a game to run windowed.

Since (with Diablo) it requires a command line parameter, it is obviously upto the game developer if, and how, the windowed DirectX support is activated.

Come to think of it, I believe I have run Half Life in windowed mode as well, but it's a long time ago that I played it, so I could be wrong.

edit: Thus, to avoid trial and error, or reversed engineering of the HoI.exe startup code, we need info from the developers what (if any) command line parameters have been made avaliable and what effects they have.

Well I PMed Max to see if he can clarify.
 
He is usually pretty good at it.
 
afaik only the debugger can run in windowed mode...

with the normal HoI version I use alt-esc to get back to the desktop , sorry...

Well into to the suggestion bin.

Since alt-TAB or alt-ESC work to go back to windows, i suspect that enabling windowed mode would not be too tricky. May already be there, just would have to have Johan give us the parameter.

I may continue to play with it a bit and see if i can 'stumble' upon it ... will update if i ever come across it. there aren't that many possibilities ... if i knew which compiler Johan was using, i wouldn't have to guess!
