Question.. are there any technical problems with HOI2 and windows 7? I can not seem to get it to work. I am sure this has been asked before but searching this forum is not an easy thing.

HOI2 doomsday with Armageddon and version 1.2.

what is the installation sequence? Do i need to install doomsday then the 1.3 patch then Armageddon then all of Armageddons patches in order?

Compatibility mode? run as admin?

thank you

It should work fine in Windows 7

Installation order (assuming you own HOI2 DD and Arma separately)

1. Install HOI2 DD (c:\games\hoi2dd)
2. Install HOI2 Arma on top of 1 above.
3. Install HOI2 Arma 1.2 on top of 1 above.
4. Optional Install HOI2 Arma 1.3 Beta 2 on top of 1 above.

You should be good to go.

i notice you say (c:\games\hoi2dd)for an install directory

is there a reason for this?

I will put it there i suppose and see what happens

however the current install under paradox folder is all corrupt now for some reason and i cant uninstall or delete the folders.

Windows 7 (and Vista before it) 'protects' files installed into c:\program files. This can create problems if you ever want to mod files - even deleting old save games can be a chore.

Installing into a separate folder avoids these (potential) hassles.

There are suggestions for uninstalling here :

If you still have registry problems you could try a registry cleaner.

Extract the patch into the folder where you have Armageddon installed - it should ask you if you want to overwrite files. Select 'yes' as it must overwrite the older files to work.

The Arma 1.3 beta 2 patch works with disk based installs, and, I believe, digital downloads from Gamersgate - it won't work with downloads from Steam or Direct2Drive.

When you start the game, make sure the checksum in the top right hand corner is PHVR

If you have a wide screen monitor, you could try running in windowed mode to see if it's more stable :

Trying windowed mode is just a test to see if the screen resolution is what's causing the problem. :)

If it is, the control panel of your video card should have a setting like 'maintain aspect ratio' or 'use displays' built in scaling' that may let you play in wide screen mode.

Windowed mode is no good. still crashes.

Maybe windows 7 wasn't such a good idea, i am having so many problems with games and windows 7

it always crashes on the intel screen when i click on a target nation.

You need to set the screen resolution colour to 16 bit.

Start > Control Panel > Adjust Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings > Monitor > High Colour 16 Bit.

I have a separate problem running Doomsday in windowed mode on Windows 7 - for some reason none of the scenarios or even save game files are available for selection in the single player game screen.

This is the case even though they are available for selection in full screen mode - I have installed Doomsday to c:\Games\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday just so you know.
