Here is what two players have experienced :

Me :
- Windows XP Pro French version
- All security patches from windowsupdate
- French version EU2 newly installed, patch 1.07 French
- EU2 starts normally, I chose a scenario to begin (or a savegame to resume), black screen and CTD.

Louis Philippe :
- Windows XP French, no update, EU2 runs normally
- Apply security patches, same problem occurs.

Is it something already witnessed here ? What can be done ( not removing the security patches) ? ;)

as we started the diagnosis in the french forum, I'd like to add that all steps in the self-healing guide concerning CTDs were followed.

EDIT: Now I remember something about this... but I don't think it was here... I'll try to take a look at the MOO3 support board today.

Louis Philippe has completely reinstalled Windows XP without the security patches and EU2 runs normally...

Does anybody with other language versions of XP and EU2 face the same problem ?

I will install my new hard drive during the week-end, and I will take the time to reinstall EU2 and test it. I have English XP.
sorry for the delay Yann :(

That's no delay ! That's dedication by the Support Team's best guy :) :) Thanks for your help !

it will have to wait a little more, sorry.

Ok Viper, do not worry anymore.

I don't know what I did wrong bu seeing AngryRuski message and Castellon answer I tried to rename the avi folder and now it works. In the meantime, I had also downloaded the latest updates from the 30st of May, so i do not know what to think.

Anyway, it works now... :)

XP patch contains a fix for opening video sequences, apparently it conflicted with your system worse than not having the fix. So renaming the AVI folder would eliminate the intro videos entirely and solve the problem.

Big Fan of HOI, I decided to replay some more EU2 to change.

As I had uninstalled EU2 I had to re-install it.
French XP Windows + latests updates from Micro$oft.
I installed EU2 + 1.7 patch.

It crashes each time I try to start a big campaign (I haven't try something else).
I tried EU2 without patch -> same problem.

Well I will try this week-end the avi removal attempt.

I must say HOI runs 100 flawlessly and I played huge hours with EU2 prior to that on the same system/computer

Maybe MS patches are to blame with avi playing ? There's no video on HOI, right ?

Lets us know so we have confirmation.

Did you rename the AVI folder?

I renamed it to AVI_back. It seems that the file itself is corrupted by some problem that I did not cause. I have searched and combed the file however found nothing out that would be suspicious. Since I save very often I can generally locate the date at which the file became corrupted.

you using any mods?
