I know dwarfs have a preference for ale but have any developer or beta tester tried if it is possible to get them running on wine?

I would love to be able to play this game in Linux so has anyone tried using wine to run it?

I don't think we've tested the game that much in wine, I'll have someone take a look at this and get back to you in a day or so :)

No1 tried yet :/

To bad would love to hear the result if anyone has some time over to test it. I have already preorderd the game so if it doesn’t work from the start I will have to wait. But quite a lot of things these days works quite straight out of the box in wine so hope is the last to leave a wine dwarf right?

Edit:
Sniped by the dev and with a very good answer, thanks! :D

More testing and no progress =(
Seems to be quite early while still loading libraries and stuff. So far I think the problem is related to loading of directx11. But no idea how to fix it.

I'm sorry to hear that. We're looking in to it, but Linux is not a high priority right now, so it might take some time. :/

If you make any progress, please let us know.

Okay I should have know, the support in wine for directX11 is about non existing. Now agod uses directx10 which have some more support, but is still a long way from functioning. But the problem right now seems to be that at least in my wine dir that the game loads dx11 any ways, probably because something makes it think it's there. Need to test with a clean new wine dir and try to stop steam from installing any directx components. Then I could at least see what error it will get with directx10.

I guess there aren't any secret directx9 fallback modes in the game? :D

I guess I have gotten spoiled by all the directx9 games that just works in wine these days so I didn't even look at what version agod uses or how the support for newer directx versions are.

Any ways if it dosen't work when I get it try directx10 then it will probably not work for quite a long time sadly. I at least supported a game idea that I like!

The game doesn't work with directx9 ?!
But my XP computer is for gaming !
Seriously, this game has been one disappointment after the other since it's released :(

I'm sorry to hear that. If you have a computer with W7/W Vista then it should probably run AGoD, but XP is not supported.

Borrowed a friends account but whenever I try to start the game I get "A game of Dwarves.exe" Entrypoint Procedure something GetThreadId in KERNEL32.dll error

Today I got wine running in a pure clean 32 bit directory.

After that I looked around and could verify that all crashes so far has been while trying to load directx11. I also discovered that Steam really really loves to install directx11 for you, which is a big problem for me. As soon as my wine dir has directx11 libs in it all chances of it working goes out the winedow(s).

Tried Steam in offline-mode still installs directX11, what the ....? Looked around the Steam directory and the agod app directory and found a interesting folder called "_depend", which contains the directX install package aha! Renamed that folder and tried again, Steam tries to install dependencies but this time it goes really fast. Game still crashes while trying to load directX11. Strange did it install dx11 in some other magical Steam way??

Looking around I could find no indications that I have dX11 installed anywhere. So all of this leads me to this question have anyone actually tried running the game on a system with directX10? As this is setup I have a hard time seeing any normal users ending up running a system with directX10.

It does not matter if Steam is online or not. It will always attempt to install the prerequesites that outined in installscript.vdf and runsasadmin.vdf.
Those are the 2 keyfiles.

So if you renamed the DXSetup to something else, it didn't install it actually.
But the game will crash because it misses the entry points of those dlls that the setup would install.

Yeah I thought so, but I have made sure to install directX10 before any of this so *there* should be enough to run the game or at least make it fail in a more normal wine way. But despite that the requirement is directX10 and not dirextX11 agod seems to always load directX11 libs.

If I could get it to load directX10 libs and likely fail there I could start to do bug reports to wine and then hopefully get some progress towards working.

If I can't get it to load directX10 then it's probably impossible to get the game running for the foreseeable future.
