Hey guys!
I've decided to start work on a new mod, which I'm dubbing 'Legacy Of The Terovan.' It'll have a new empire which will always be in a game (the Terovan), and they have a unique AI Personality (Vengeful Reclaimers, a fierce and proud warrior-race with their own sense of humour) and Government Structure (Tribal Ascendancy/Ruthless Ascendancy - You can enslave and purge!). The image shows one of their diplomatic lines when you're at war with them.

As well as that, there's going to be a bunch of events and anomalies with it that ties in with their story - how they conquered a huge chunk of the galaxy and subsequently lost it all due to poor micromanagement.

There's still a way to go with this before it goes fully live, but I may be able to get a beta up here soon (hopefully) - I don't want to make a full release until I'm truly happy with it.

Interesting. In the future I will be working on something similar (predefined scenarios) and prescripted empires with lore are always welcomed to give flavour to the game. If you need any help just ask.

i would like play with type of ascendancy :) , is pretty nice , for next version of stellaris , i hope one scenario with this civilisation , good luck
You'll be able to play as them! I'll probably add in a chain-quest for them that should flesh out their story (Everyone else will get a chain-quest that studies their downfall) revolving around restoring their legacy and power, and the Terovan are scripted to appear even if you don't select them.

Hey guys.
I've got a first beta version ready to go (Download Link), which should have the following features:
  • New Prescripted Country - The Terovan Empire
    • Once a mighty and powerful empire, the Terovan were beset by rebellions and wars from outside empires. Having lost almost all their territory and their homeworld, they fled to their first colony - now acting as their capital world.
    • The Terovan Empire are physically strong and capable, but their customs tend to disturb other species. They are a Fanatic Militarist and Spiritualist people who use the Tribal Ascendancy government form.
    • Comes with a custom start screen and premade system.
  • New AI Personality - Vengeful Reclaimers
    • Vengeful Reclaimers once held a large area of the galaxy, but dramatically lost their territory due to internal and external conflicts. Despite this, they still view the planets and stars as rightfully theirs, and will not hesitate to crush anyone or anything who gets in their way - and cannot be persuaded otherwise.
    • Vengeful Reclaimers are a militarily focused personality with ridiculously high levels of aggression (100) and bravery (15).
    • Vengeful Reclaimers come with their own diplomatic dialogue (still a work in progress, but so far there's about 90 lines of unique dialogue, and more planned) and a custom First Contact message.
  • New Government - Tribal Ascendancy -> Ruthless Ascendancy
    • An unusual and intricate form of government where the ruler is elected through both a vote by the citizens and a tribal council. The ruler is responsible for the expansion of the empire, and any martial failures may result in them being forcibly removed from office.
    • Tribal Ascendancy allows enslavement and purging of any pop, and provides ship and army combat bonuses, as well as war happiness.
    • Tribal Ascendancy comes with a start screen part and a custom First Contact message.
  • New Strategic Resource - Ancient Artifact
    • A relic left behind by one of the most powerful empires in the galaxy. While they are almost useless in traditional construction and development, they can power up and activate their technology, should you discover it...
    • Ancient Artifacts don't do anything yet, but are planned to have a use. (I'm such a tease)
  • New Anomaly - Asteroid Strike Base
    • An abandoned station looming over an asteroid may be more than it appears...
    • Successfully studying this anomaly grants a rare and powerful piece of tech or a research boost.
  • THE FOLLOWING VANILLA FILES HAVE BEEN EDITED
    • common/policies/00_policies - To allow the Tribal Ascendancy governments to enslave and purge pops
    • events/on_action_events - To create the custom First Contact screens for Vengeful Reclaimers and Tribal Ascendancy
Installation Instructions
  1. Unzip the archived file into Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod. All the relevant files should be there.
  2. The mod should show up in the launcher's mod tab as Legacy Of The Terovan (Beta Version 1). If that doesn't show up, there's a mod file called descriptor within the terovan folder. Move that into the mod folder and it should show up (it will show up as Legacy Of The Terovan).
Please bear in mind that this is a beta version. Various things will be added, adjusted and removed at any time. Also bear in mind that there will probably be bugs in the beta - if you find any, let me know below and how you ran into it, and I'll have a look at it for you and get a fix in ASAP.
This is a really big project and I want to get it right before a full release. If you decide to try it out, please leave some feedback about it.

Just wanted to suggest some ideas that have come to my mind right now:

You can add new planet classes resembling the old Terovan colonies like:

Terovan Desert Planet
Terovan Ocean Planet
etc

Then you can make that if a empire colonises one of this planets the Terovan Empire will get a -200 opinion modifier with that empire so they will not be mad at you if you don't mess with the planets they think are "his right". Also on this planets you can find old and unique buildings built by the Terovan long ago that the player can use but not build, unique planet modifiers/tie blockers with Terovan lore and events related with the new planet classes.

That sounds really awesome! Older Terovan colonies is definitely pretty cool, and I'd like to mark some habitable worlds as important for them so if you take it, they'll demand you give it up to them (sort of like the 'you settled too close to us' diplo event) or they'll go to war with you. A direct opinion modifier wouldn't be ideal since they already hate everyone's guts (-10000 opinion iirc just for being Vengeful Reclaimers), but an array of interactions with their planets is definitely a cool idea.
