on all trailers, images ,etc i saw about the game of dwarves, i have only seen men dwarves, Will there be any female dwarves?
And how do dwarfs reproduce?
I am a Dwarf fortress fan, and one of my favourite aspects is the realism, and since this game is somewhat of an imitation of Dwarf fortress but with graphics, i beg the developers to focus on realism too. This game is on my Buy list, i don't wanna be disapointed ok?

Female dwarves have beards too of course, that's why you can't distinguish them from males :p

Considering the game will contain Ale trees and stuff, I wouldn't put too much hope into the realism factor to be honest. Sorry to disappoint you IceM.

When it comes to women, the developers claim that they have beards. And for someone not too familiar with the dwarf anatomy, it may be hard to distinguish the females.

The dwarves in this game magically spawn from a fountain of sorts.

Personally i really don't care if there will be women or not, as soon as no real new game mechanic will be added.

and, i was not aware that "dwarves" were invented by this Dwarf Fortress thing....
Tolkien could be very upset if that would become the general opinion :D

No one said Dwarf Fortress invented dwarfs. He said the game "imitates" from the Dwarf Fortress game, not dwarves them themselv.

OK, so if he did not intended that, i guess that Dwarf fortress thing copied from Dungeon keeper 1 and 2, or any other managerial simulation out there....

anyway, as you can see, no one can really claim to be "genuine" on this subject....because this kind of game and background is really really dated, and man, i hope it will be revitalised!!

Exactly! And I guess one FPS is just a copy of any other FPS or one RTS game is just a copy of any other RTS game – so with that logic, no gaming company should ever make any other game again because of this.

did u even play dwarf fortress? if u did , the idea\concept is the same, except DF is more realistic in mechanics\complexity, but it has Ascii graphics.
U start with seven dwarves in a far away land, and have to collect resoursesm mine, and make a fortress while defending from monsters, and raids.
The good side of this game is that it has Graphics, i dont care if it is using Dwarf fortress as an inspiration, i actually find it good to know that someone plays \ knows DF and gets inspired by it, since DF is one of the most complex games i ever played. ;)

And i did not say DF invented the concept of dwarves.
And to someone who answered about realism, i didnt mean realism as in imitating reality, i meant realism as in simulation mechanics.

but yeah.

By the way, is the game moddable? =)

Hi IceM,
no, i have never played DF, even if i watched on youtube an extensive let's play, so i know it quite well.
Simply because 1 my pc is 64 bit, so would be really tedious to get it to work, 2 i really can't stand ascii and 3 i want to play a game not have a second work....

But i played for some months Aurora...go check it if you really want a very complex and complete strategy game in space, and no graphics.

The old norsemen would be even more upset by people thinking that Tolkien came up with dwarves ;)

Definitely – and my point all along on this subject. Imagine if the world tossed aside Tolkien’s work because they thought he “copied” the idea of Dwarves from somewhere else – the world would miss out from tremendous piece of work.
What does it matter if or where something received some inspiration? Judge each for their own merit. A Game Of Dwarves is its own game – judge is as that. If it seems to have been inspired by other games out their then whatever; it is still a unique game on its own. . . . . and an awesome game at that.

Indeed, i said Tolkien only because he is recognizable by the majority of people, as a written source, i don't know if your grandgrandgrandfathers ever wrote about the oral legends of your land... :)

If we go back a few hundred generations they probably did. And if they hadn't, Tolkien would be lacking source material

I'm not saying it's bad to iterate on things that other people came up with, I just get surprised sometimes when people on the internet gives all credit to Tolkien (though you obviously already knew where he got his inspiration from).
