Won't install on WinXP

I love EU and EU2 and have spent countless hours playing it on my Win 2k stationary comp. Now I have a laptop with Win XP and the game wont install. I thought the CD was broke so I even bought a new copy, but still couldnt install.

OS: Win XP Professional, SP1
Computer: Dell Inspiron 8200, 512 MRam, Plenty HD space, Geforce 4, 440 graphics card

Error:
About halfway though installation a msgbox appears saying
'An installation support file 'c:\Temp\{yadda-yadda}\setup.inx' could not be installed.
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Is this a known problem. Would really appreciate any help!
 
Who is the publisher of your version?
 
Do you have admin rights active for the user you are trying to install it with?
 
Just remembered why I asked who the publisher was. :(


This relates to your problem I believe.
Scandinavian EU2 installation problem (setup.inx)

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection.

You can download a working file here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.
