Based on reading the forum, it appears the AI is functioning well for some - if not most - people. For me, it's to the point where I'm probably going to reinstall 1.01. I like to play either US or Russia in the '36 campaign (the default or Bolts). I like to build the army from scratch and then deal with the Axis foe when he strikes. But since 1.02 the AI just appears idiotic. Germany Sitzkriegs until 1942 sometimes. Japan places no ground forces on the home islands.

I've gone so far as to edit the save games in 1940 and remove half the French army to "motivate" the Germans to attack already. All they do is send the Panzer troops on an endless tour of the Rhineland. And when they finally DO take France down, they often will instantly declare war on Russia - with their armies all out of place - and leave most of the Panzers defending the French coastline.

The Japanese are no better. If you fortify Guam against them in 1.02 they'll burn through their entire air force and half their army trying to take it.

Needless to say ... this makes it kind of pointless to spend hours building up the US or Soviet side as you can more or less be done in 1943.

So ... does anyone have a workaround for this until an official patch comes out? I can't figure out why some folks are getting decent playability and I'm seeing this kind of behaviour.

Yes ... I did a complete re-install. Yes I've tried reloading the game every couple months to kick-start the AI - which only partly helps and is a nuisance. I had no problems in 1.01.

This seems strange to me. What game settings (difficulty) are you using?

I've tried normal/normal through hard/furious. I know some other people have posted about this, but it appears to not affect everyone. Damned if I know why.

The only things in my set up that's different is I install on a drive other than C: ... which shouldn't affect anything ... but who knows?

Did you do a fresh install for 1.02?
You said you had "Bolted" your 1.01. If this is the case you would need to do a fresh install for 1.02.

I tried a raw 1.02 first. I tried the Bolted only when I started seeing this from the base install - thinking maybe someone else's AI files may fix things. Which they didn't ... so I think the problem is elsewhere.

Did you use the new Bolted files designed for 1.02 or the first ones designed for 1.01?

The latest of everything.

The only two things I can think of which could contribute to this are:

1) My style of play as US/Russia is to spend most of '36 and '37 doing research. Hardly any troop building. I read elsewhere in the forum that the AI will match this. Could this be upsetting the troop balances that should be happening in 1939?

2) I noticed that France and Russia at the time when Germany should attack has 0% dissent in the games I play. Bumping this to 30% in the saved game seems to yield results consistent with reality. Could the fact that I manage dissent well affect the way the AI does too ... and therefore makes France and Russia tougher foes? If the AI looks at dissent when deciding what province to attack (i.e. figuring odds of success), then France with 0% dissent and nearly same sized army as Germany would explain the "rats in a maze" effect I see.

Answer = Yes to #1, Not sure really what is happening with #2

Solution awaits the next patch.
Sorry I cannot really discuss the details But I think the next patch should clear up this problem for you.

Nothing strange about it at all. Happens all the time to me too, which I have also frequently posted about.

So far my only viable option has been to play Germany or Japan myself to make sure the WWII actually gets started (well, Germany is currently unplayable due to the leader bug).

Sorry you are having problems but as the original poster mentioned some people are experiancing the opposite.

I've also seen that with the latest Bolted kit that Nat.China can not only hang on - but push Japan off the continent by '43 without help from the Allied armies. It's the same issue ... the AI for Japan goes on a sight-seeing tour ... giving China a chance to build this gazonga huge army of Militia ... which eventually can carry the day.

The only way I've been able to get around this is to edit the save games to delete armies or crank up dissent for the sides that shoud be losing. Of course, that costs me the computer research.

It's a royal pain.

Since you are in editing the save already you can use the work around for the tech bug as well. Check out the fix it yourself thread in the bug forum. I think the details are in there.
