Let's say I've got two domes. One all females, and one all males. I believe that would prevent new children. (Correct me if I'm wrong here.) However, what if these two domes share a common outside workplace? (e.g. Fungal Farm.) I would bet that some colonists from both domes would try to work there. Would that lead to children? Or is creating children exclusive to domes/residences?

It seems dome based, so the workplace doesn't enter into it at all .

That said, the amount of micro management of who get what specialization, to ensure all females is scientist or the right number is scientist, sounds fairly hopeless.

You could do a one gender colony with only imported population, that you could at least automate without outright crazy.

Hope for Biorobots, Clonevats and the 50% chance to recreate on death and it might end up a fun play through.

Woops! Wrong place; anyway as for filtering out colonists; its as simple as disallowing them in all other domes and only allowing them in the dome you want.

So if you want two scientist domes filtered by sex; build the two, filtering is about pairs in this game. You need a dome for both coin sides so to speak. I typically start with scientists since they are the easiest to move out without effecting the colony's generation operation in the early-late game. After I've filled both with scientists and unspecialized I typically move on to the next group I want to get out of the domes I've already built. What I mean by this is, filtering down to only one specialization is more of a concern in the late game where you've got 1000+ colonists you need in a specific place.

I typically transition by building megadomes for each specialty and just move them in one specialty at a time.

Unless there's something I don't know, Clone vats create random colonists, including a random gender. Your only way to have an all male or all female colony using clones is to make a dome specifically to dispose of clones that you don't want.
