What exact context the below refers too I'm not too sure (http://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkyli...es_on_twitter_prepare_for_something/?sort=new), but looking at it we can expect a LOT of broken Mods and therefore broken saves if this is the case...

Unfortunately, most mods will need to undergo changes and updates themselves in order to be compatible. It is a necessary evil, but we believe the additions/improvements in this patch are well worth it!

That's what happens when developers don't just dump their game and run after two or three token bug fix patches. I don't know what else you expected. The fact that they attempt to at least playtest the few most popular mods to see if they can accommodate them without too much extra work is something you'd be hard pressed to find happening anywhere else at most any point in video game development history.

I have gotten rid of all subscribtions to all mods and assets. It was time for a cleanup anyway. I will add mods as they update I guess. It was hell of a job though, since Steam doesn't have the option to unsubscribe to all. Starting fresh isn't a terrible prospect honestly :)

Standard operating procedure in the Sims world is -- patch released, disable mods, wait for authors to update, re-enable. The start up options CO has added make it easy to do this globally, although you may prefer to wait rather than playing a vanilla game.

It's encouraging that CO has stated that they won't be releasing a lot of small patches but rather just a few bigger ones. That means we players, and more importantly modders, won't have to go through the "update your mods" cycle as frequently.

And don't confuse mods and assets. All the assets should be fine as long as they aren't running with a mod as they don't change any game code.

It may not be happening this time around, but couldn't a patch break some assets if, for example, there were changes or additions to asset properties? I'm sure CO would do their best to ensure their code is backward compatible with old assets, but that might not always be possible if they're introducing new features.
