Basically a nice short AAR with no real storyline. As per usualy with me involved there will be a twist. Heres the Soviet army on January 1st 1936.

ScreenSave76.jpg

Yep a single HQ unit. All land forces have been disbanded, all naval units have been disbanded except for my starting transport. This AAR is going to be used to test a couple of theories.

1. Can you lose a game as the Soviets.
2. Can you deplete the Soviets manpower
3. Can militia and HQ units defeat the Germans.

No switching doctrines, no combined arms, just try and stop the Germans using my face. Human wave baby. The only land units I'm gonna build are militia and HQ units. None of this maginot line building stuff either. Air and naval units along with brigades are fine. Some VP province may also get fortified but they can be surrounded. I've never had to fight a Soviet defensive war in the hinterlands so why not. In addition to having to use Milita to defend the union I can't build to many so the Germans actually invade in 1941. May as well build a navy.

ScreenSave77.jpg

For the motherland- I'm doomed. Not sure how its gonna play out. Basic plan IC whore until 1940/41 spam militia. Build a large fleet because I can.

A few years sped by. The mighty Soviet union buid a few militia, and arms them with cannons. Brazil decides to join in on the fun. Took a while- 7% chance to join alliance.
ScreenSave79.jpg

Its not like the Axis can do anything to them. Bastards.
1939 winter war rolls around. Attack.
ScreenSave81.jpg

Look I can build transports. Owsum

ScreenSave83.jpg

Modern battleships as well. I'm so proud. They can sail to Brazil and back- and have done so multiple times. What else are they gonna do? Its not like I'm gonna use much oil this game.
ScreenSave84.jpg

Militia make decent Marines. Finns throw in the towel after this. The Militia marching overland didn'teven reach their target province.

ScreenSave86.jpg

1940 rolls by. Not alot happens. Soviets demand and recieve Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. 1941 comes along and bugger. And I thought I could trust Hitler.

165 militia divisions armed with artillery meet the German onslaught. Due to higher than anticipated dissent and one serial run of IC to many the Soviet airforce is also wrather weak. A few bombers conduct logisitical strikes at night to slow the Germans down. Some idiot also forgot to fortify Moscow, and didn't time the build to end by June 22. Fortifications were built in Leningrad though and half buit in a few Ukrainian provinces. 5 million recruits stand ready. Could have built some tanks and infantry, but no someone wanted to use militia. Stalin is not amused.

ScreenSave93.jpg

The same idiot also forgot to research and build 1939 CVLs for the navy. What can go wrong? Told you this was the worst Soviet AAR ever. Until tomorrow.

I do love the combination of modern battleships and hordes of peasants with pointy sticks, should be most amusing. :D

Wow your border is really well defended.

I wonder how this will turn out.
I bet that you lose Moscow already in 1941, but with most of your IC located in central asia you will still be able to churn out loads of militia and eventually stop the germans in 1942.
The hard attack of militia is really crappy though, so you will definitely need your airforce.

Also I consider using that Tannu Tuvan / Mongolian expeditionary forces a cheat if they are not militia/HQ. :p

By the looks of your front line, the Germans will be in Moscow in a week! (I wonder what tricks you have up your sleeve!)

EL Pip I had alot of IC floating around and didn't want to build to many divisions early on and scare the Germans off. I had plans for a Soviet Naval AAR but it would be to easy This one will have to do.

Kolibri I forgot about expeditionary forces and more or less forgot to give Tanu Tuva and Mongolia vlueprints. I did get some off the Brazilians though. Its not like I eed inf or arm techs at all. Until 1942 or so when I might rush 43 infantry to get updated militia. If I survive long enough to upgrade anything.

volksmarschallMoscow in a week? Have some faith. It would take at leaast 2 weeks even if I defended nothing. No real tricks or grand plan. I had some ideas but balls them up and forgot to build fortification in Moscow and Stalingrad. Moscow is now getting ome but it will take a while.

Good news . After constant defeats my first victory.

ScreenSave95.jpg

Go Soviet navy. They're doing alot better than the army.
ScreenSave96.jpg

My first land vistory. I'm so proud. In hindsight 8 tac bombers by June 41 isn't enough. Lithuania survives as the Germans didn't claim Memel.
ScreenSave97.jpg

My first counter attack. Initially I win but additional Germans drive me back and the Germans now have a foothold over the Dnieper. Bugger.
ScreenSave99.jpg

The Soviet Navy continues its winning streak. Time to go back to Murmansk except the Finns captured it. Archangelsk is a nice city though.
ScreenSave98.jpg

Many defeats later and the frontline after a month. Should have left the Finns alone.
ScreenSave100.jpg

Another screwup. I forgot about the Soviet destroyers at sea. Oh well there goes most of the Soviet destroyer fleet.
ScreenSave101.jpg

Successful counter attack against the Finns. I hope the CAS eliminate the retreating division.
ScreenSave102.jpg

And after 2 months the front line. 30 odd divisons get holed up in the southern Ukraine which I fortified up to level 5 or so. The plan was to hold the high metal and energy provinces and supply them via sea. Its an owsum plan.

Some 70 additional IC and new tech and moves in diplomacy, would be my guess. If not, cheating.
Please tell me you don't have less than 200 divs.

Deus Eversor check the dates again. From 371 Nov 39 to 534 June 41. 18 months not one year and 160 odd not 200. Thats effective IC. My base IC went from 303-382 which is an increase of 79 over 18 months. I started a massive X5 serial in 36 and each year I use the extra IC to build another run.

eg X30 factories X 5 in 36.
extra IC X6 X4

In 37 you get an extra 36 IC which I use to create another X7 X3 factory run. in 38 create another run x 2.

Essentially all the serials get completed in 1940/41. Theres a reason I have very little airforce and HQs as I just built IC for the most part. Add in slider moves, technologies, and lend lease IC and it adds up. No cheating required. Disbanding the army also freed up a large amount of IC from supplies in 36.

4th Dimension I only had about 165 divisions when the Germans invaded. I didn't want to build to many as the Germans won't attack and from the AIs point of view theres no difference between militia and normal infantry or armor.

Front line after 3 months and many defeats later. My plan to hold forts in the Ukraine didn't work and 31 elite divisions are eliminated. Zhukov, Chukov and Konev live to fight another day though.

ScreenSave105.jpg

Desperate counter attack near Moscow. Germans penetrated river defensive lines faster than I thought. Starting to get icy and snow in the north though

ScreenSave106.jpg

4 Months Crimea is a fortress due to some fortifications built and only one province in so no flanking. I mangae to advance in Finland and cut it in half.
ScreenSave108.jpg

5 Months Germans from Norway result in Finnish retreat. Deep freeze slows Germans alot.
ScreenSave109.jpg

Hmm the germans weren´t able to seize Moscow or Stalingrad before the winter set in and you still have infinite manpower and loads of IC.
Doesn´t look great for the Führer to be honest.

Kolibri attacking is quite difficult and Moscow and the like is mostly symbolic as most of my IC is scattered in the far east and central asia/siberia.

Once the snow thaws I may be in trouble and the Germans haven't lost alot. They still break through alot and I have to plug the gaps with stupid counter attacks. Losing Moscow may cost me my resource stockpile as I'm not sure if my capital has been moved but I don't think so.

Germans pocket 9 divisions+artillery in Vyazma. A counter attack over ice is launched near Moscow.
ScreenSave110.jpg

Further south the Germans cross the Don. A counter offensive buys some time. By now the Soviet airforce is launching night time infrastructure raids to slow the German advance.
ScreenSave111.jpg

The frontline 6 months after Barbarossa.
ScreenSave112.jpg

By now the Soviet army has 256 divisions. Crunching the numbers the casualties work out as.
40 divsions encircled and destroyed.= 280 000

Taking into account manpower growth and the production of an extra 131 divisions and some artillery the Sovieets have lost about 100 000 killed. 380 000 casualties in total as a rough estimate.

Onni Manni I had thought of that. IN other news in I know have 400+ divisions of militia. Gonna be a pain to upgrade them all. This has also been one the most fun I've ever had as the Soviets.
