Hello everyone! I have had this game since Christmas and I love it! I have played 2 campaigns from '36 (US and Ge, just starting USSR), and I would like to start MP. The manual is pretty sparse on the whole procedure, and I have other questions too.

1. How hard is it to join a game? Do you have to contact other people to join or is there a lobby where you can join a pickup game?

2. How fast do most people run the game, and do they ever pause?

3. What happens if my game has tweaked unit stats, or changed unit type names?

4. Will I get slaughtered if I don't know more than basic diplomacy?

5. How long do most sessions last, and is it a big deal if you have to bail?

I would love to try MP, nothing is better than human opponents.
Thanx in advance:)

2. Depends. I once seen above normal on peace, and sometimes its very slow during war. Speed is adjustable ingame, anyway.

3. Do a second, plain mp install.

4. What do you mean by "basic diplomacy"? Human diplomacy is the same thing in every mp game.

5. Depends. I played even 8-hours one, but most are much shorter. If you have to leave, tell it earlier than 10 minutes before ;)

You can just turn up in the room and hope for the best, in my experience don't hope for much because these types of MP games never last. They normally start fighting in 36 (if that's the start date chosen) the game lasts a couple of hours, people quit and the game falls to pieces, you never see the people again.

Far better is to actually know the people you want to play, and at least have e-mails for them. You can then arrange times to meet up again to finish games, you get a much more rewarding experience and are far more likely to actually get somewhere in the game via this method.

I've read a lot of threads and see a lot of ' I don't DOW country x until their war entry is y' sort of thing. I only really know how to influence nations and share tech - nothing else. Thanx for the answers though:)

war entry rules still apply in MP and the AI countries react the same in MP as SP

but...

"human" countries require you to actually engage in diplomacy with chat, etc... you can influence them with dip, etc... but it doesn't mean the player is listening. (this may be an obvious observation but I think that was your question)

As to playing MP

You're best bet is to form or join up with a group. Most groups are always looking for new players.

If you are one of those reliable types then any group out there will most likely want you in it.

Worst case, try "subbing" in a continued game on Valk when someone shows up looking for players on a cont'd game - these tend to be the dedicated types that you're looking for.
