XP installation problems

I have a 1ghz athlon,396 ram,prophet 4500 64mb,Creative 52x cd-rom,Acer 20x 10x 40x CDRW.
Every time i try to run the setup.exe i get "An error occurred while launching the setup. (0x80040801)".
i have tried running from my CDRW but it doesnt work.
Have changed the admin to try the usual NT fault.
Have tried running in different compatability modes,NT,2000,even 98/ME.
The error message appears when the setup.exe goes 100%,but the cd-rom doesnt read anything from the cd.
PLEEEEEEEEAAAASE HELP ME....i want to kick ass too..

check the "running problems" thread on top of this forum, it contains suggestions that could help you. Particularly cleaning all remnants of the game after a failes install would surely help.
