EU crashed my system - twice. I'm afraid to start the program. I've had to re-install my O/S (Win98SE) and all of my software. I'm on a LAN, and this seems to be the problem. EU apparently detects and writes files that effect the network. Great game - to bad the program is parasitic. The key was when the program named my player 'survey1,' which is the ID for my computer on the network. I'm not too happy right now. I would appreciate any insight into this problem.

Thanks,

Brad

Huh? I can't say what the specific problem is on your computer but I can say immediately that it isn't bacause you're on a network. By coincidence I'm the administrator of a network with 1500 connected computers and I have had no problem with either the german or the danish version of the game on my own computer (which is part of this network).

It's correct that the game takes the ID for your computer and suggest that as your player name but the game doesn't need to edit any files to do that. That information is available for any program. EU isn't the first game I've seen using the computers ID for the player name.

problems with the install..

I posted something similar in another thread, but part of the issue you might be having has probably something to do with your CD-Rom speed and the media itself. I have purchased 3 copies of the game now, and all the CD's have a slight wobble that gets worse the faster your CD. 40x and up have a real hard time reading all of the files on install, and that became a major issue for me.

If you have a slower CD-Rom, you probably want to try that. I eventually used my slower burner to install with, and it finally worked.

Good luck!!

Re: problems with the install..

Brad -- what signs of crashing are you referring to? I don't see why you'd need to reinstall your OS with a game crash. What other programs were running when you tried to start EU (virus protection, anything in Systray, etc.)?

Really? Maybe the Midwest got a defective shipment... I have a higher end CD-ROM and don't hear any wobbles (though I have heard it with other CDs).
