Aeons ago in the dark past of a stellar history scarcely remembered there existed a hive. This hive swarmed across the stars with a ferociously insatiable need to dominate and spread. To bring to heel and consume all other beings for the greater strength of the hive. The hive was; however, not alone.

Against it stood an equal power. A menace of godly proportions possessed of burning weapons that harnessed the very stellar fires themselves and lanced the hive's many components with a furious passion.

Eventually, the hive fell...

However, all was not lost.

Legend has it that, fleeing the fires of perfect Ytrel as their civilisation burned, 7 queens escaped the judgement of their foe and scattered themselves across the galaxy. These few who had escaped the wrath of the enemy, stripped of the marvels of their civilisation, found the most secluded places in the galaxy in which to consume new life and prepare to rebuild.

The time of their return has finally come...

-----------------------------------------------------

So, the premise of this AAR is that there are 7 pre-selected empires that are set to 'always appear' in the galaxy. It is a 1000 star 4-arm spiral galaxy and the story will follow 1 of these empires as it returns to the stars and attempts to unite all the others back under a single banner.

This is on a map with a comparatively small number of AI empires so that the likelihood of appropriate fallen empires spawning is maximised. Half of them will be advanced starts though. It's also an ironman game so I could very well lose this.

Victory condition requirements are:
- Restore the hive.
- - -> (All 7 Ytrellan Fragment peoples in one empire with no independent worlds.)
- Find the civilisation responsible for their original demise and crush them.
- Make the resulting empire contiguous.
- Tolerate no other peoples within the Hive.
- Eliminate the end-game crisis (or in the case of the Prethoryn Swarm undecided).

Defeat conditions:
- Be defeated/vassalised.
- Lose control of Ytrellan populations dispersed on alien worlds beyond reach.
- - -> (I.e. if an empire/federation is too powerful to take on and they have acquired ethics drifted Ytrellan pops that cannot be reclaimed then it's a loss.)
- Any Ytrellan fragment species wiped out by purgers/end game crisis.

In the spoiler below are the start-screen empire cards for each of the fragments. You may view them if you wish, or leave them hidden to be surprised by them as they appear in the course of the story. You are welcome to recreate them and play your own version of this.

Early chapters will be very image heavy. Later chapters will involve more exposition.

Chapter 1:

In the aeons that passed since our legendary history our society has developed on this desert world we named Gul Ytrel orbiting the star Nellpa'xo. Much was lost, and the inclusion of so much other life into the structure of our hive took a long time to adapt to. Our species is led by many queens which form an Oligarchy Speakership, interpreting the best course to fulfil the great purpose of our species. Restoration of the fragments into a great union.

We are relatively close to the centre of this galaxy and we consider this to our advantage. Surely we will be the ones to lead the new union of our peoples, if... no when, we eventually find them.

The nearest stellar phenomena to us is the Oracle's Grave Nebula. It is to this location that legend has it our founding queen took the ship we came upon as her burial barge.

Naturally our people took immediately to the stars, scouting with the Gul Ytrellan Prime, all the stars within range of our newly constructed wormhole station. Our form of transport is slow for exploration, but our purpose cannot be waylaid by such trifling concerns.

Upon investigating the nebula though it would seem we have already stumbled upon a potentially concerning problem...

We have discovered a mighty structure! This ring world is very like the ones our legends speak of from the time of stellar conflict! Truly this one does not seem to bear the enemy which once hunted us so near to extinction but still, to find this so close to our homeworld is distressing indeed!
20160525194248_1.jpg

This mighty structure seems to be curated by some kind of artificial intelligence, how every abhorrent.
20160525194313_1.jpg

Apparently this thing was built by the Ximlo, whoever they were. This name does not match anything in our legends, but much has been forgotten. Who knows? Perhaps this is a relic of our enemy and they have already passed from this universe into obscurity.
20160525194333_1.jpg

Either way, their creation doesn't seem to be very bright since it has failed to notice the species on its structure have achieved sapience!

It may bear us no hostility now, but in the future we will have to return here and take this structure for ourselves. This is the way of the Ytrellanids.

First though we must look to colonisation.

20160525195308_1.jpg

Alas the nearest world is inhabited by some foolish birds and is poor in resources. We shall have to return later.
20160525202702_1.jpg

Our next option though is a glorious world and our people rejoice upon its settling (size 22 - not pictured). These may be but the smallest of steps, but we will grow, and we shall not be stopped.
20160525204147_1.jpg

Just beyond the Oracle's Grave though we have found something truly spectacular. A world that brings to mind the legends of Perfect Ytrel. We shall name it Gyllene Ytrel in honour, a world like this cannot be anything less than a sign of our coming dominion.

What is this though?
20160525204524_1.jpg

An empire living on Ring Worlds!!!

A panic not seen in our recent history swept our people for a time. Many lesser members briefly lost their minds and our queens despaired that they had inadvertently revealed us to the enemy of old.

It appears though that our panic was premature, despite that their space now cuts us off until we find a new location to jump the space between arms. Fortunately they care nothing for us, or anyone for that matter and this we can respect with our mutual heritage of the ages.

Nevertheless, there are many more reaches of space to yet discover. The future is uncertain, except that they will all be consumed by the hive eventually.

Interesting setup, will try to keep an eye on this.

I like this narrative you're building, I was considering doing something rather similar with one of my games, maybe even do an AAR of my own, but this definitely has my interest.
