CK2 Dev Diary #111 - Until Next Year

Hello all,

It has been a wonderful year for CK2, and I hope you all agree. A lot of work was put into Holy Fury which from the reception seems to be time well spent. We are not quite ready to talk about the next year but when we are you will be the first to know. We will now present something with no further comment.

Happy holidays, we hope you have a great winter break and we will be back next year.

Maybe a new random world generator aspect, where cultures are represented by animals. To allow playing CK2 in a world full of different animal species that each have their own culture (Horse/ Panda/ Bear/ Cat/ Whatever). :)
Isn't that already in it?
Select "Animal kingdoms" in the generator option, and you should have what you're asking for!

Kilian DLC confirmed

Either announce naval combat, or pack up and start working on the next project. It was promised that this would be the last DLC quite a while ago.

Look, random people randomly saying on the forums that this is to be the last DLC without absolutely anything to back it up with does not equate to Developers making a promise.

I vaguely recall a developer announcing a few years ago that they had two small DLCs and one big one planned. Despite the numerous assertions by the official team since then that they were going to make DLC as long as people keep buying it, that sounds a lot like "Holy Fury is the last DLC" to me.

Unless you're suggesting that having three DLC planned at that time wouldn't prevent them from coming up with new ones afterward. But that's just ridiculous.

I think that was Doomdark in a post DLC release DD.

Kilian Experience collab?

Victoria 3 release totally confirmed you guiz!!!!!! am I funny like teh rest of you edgy jokesters nao? More seriously, I cannot see them actually adding china to the map due to obvious system constraints. So, the question then is, what precisely is with the Red Panda exactly?

Others have already said it in this thread I believe, but if you go for random world (shattered world too maybe, I haven't checked) and keep clicking on the culture option from random to full random to historical and back again, then eventually after a few cycles it will become "Animal Kingdom" which will still keep some humans around but you will also have a bunch of different animal portraits.

Fairly disappointing really as it's just that, portraits, it's not actually any kind of mechanic where you can't for example have children with a horse as a human, you totally can here. Fun nonetheless though

Honestly, if this were to be a hint that that system would become more fleshed out, that would be amazing. It might not have much use in vanilla, but a proper "species" system would be a godsend for many a fantasy mod.

So like how say, french+African parents give Turkish portraits

Human+cat would give Han-Catgirl portraits? Repeat for everything else?

Is that what were to assume "fleshed out" means?

Well, that's one option.
It might be simpler if there was just a way to specify that "characters with human portraits and characters with cat portraits cannot interbreed".
With that, species-dependent ageing ranges, and maybe (birth) gender ratios, most fantasy races that come to mind could be represented adequately.

Thinking about it, that doesn't need to be just for fantasy races. Having animals that are fertile, but only with their own species would allow for silly/fun/uhmmersive things like breeding your pets, war horses and whatnot.
