CK2 - Dev Diary #123 - Iron Century

Hello!

As you probably know by now we released our 3.1.1 patch yesterday. Hopefully those of you who have managed to try it are enjoying it, and those of you who haven’t will jump in this weekend. Let us know what you think about the court and tech changes, and as always if you run into any issues, please report them in the bug forum!

Now onto something new, there have been a few hints here and there about what we have been working on. However now we can officially announce that we will be releasing a new historical bookmark called: The Iron Century. The bookmark will start on the 7th of August 936, a previously unplayable date and our first in the 10th century.

In Europe Otto marches on the path to an Empire, Rival Caliphs battle for control of the Muslim world and the last remnants of the vikings stir to the north. Hundreds of other characters have their own stories to tell. A thousand possibilities await in the Iron Century.

Next week we will do something special and have a new dev diary about the 936 bookmark every day from Monday to Friday to cover the setting of the medieval world in the 10th century. Also I want to make it clear that ‘The Iron Century’ update will be completely free.

A correction from last weeks dev diary is that the correct weekday of our Crusader Kings stream is Wednesdays 16:00 CEST and not the previously mentioned Thursdays.

Thanks for reading everyone!

I wonder if this new start date is there to end all start dates. Is everyone better off playing this one?

With Charlie, I think they wanted to test scripted scenarios
I don't think the IC is supposed to be perfect, the earlier ones are probably better for fans of dying religions while the vanilla one will always be the date that the original mechanics are made for. IC I think is there because there were many requests, as several major events happened in it.

Looks great!

Always wanted a bookmark that is in between 867 and 1066.
Hopefully in this period we will have some more slavic characters in eastern europe. As it stands there are too many in 867 and only 2 in 1066.
I always wanted to make a slavic last stand of the Russians.:):)

Marketing: "Okay we've developed enough DLC for CK2 you can stop now"
Devs: "No more DLC you say..."
Marketing: "Guys you can stop working! We're not even being paid for this! Guys!?"

I looked at my exhausted wallet, and said " just one more time, old friend". And my wallet deeply sighed, knowing this could mean the end, but bowed in tired agreement.
But then the light shone forth, and a horse and rider stood on a hill in the distance, and raising sword in hand exclaimed " BUT NOT TODAY! FREEDOM! ".
And I smiled through joyful tears. I closed my eyes, and said "paradox ...thanks be to paradox"....

So... Byzantium.

The year this bookmark represents had Romanos I Lekapenos and Constantine VII as co-emperors. Which one will hold the title in game? Technically Lekapenos was the senior historically, but Constantine is a pretty important emperor, and it'd be a shame to be unable to play as him. (Then again, IIRC, it's pretty hard to actually get the throne as Irene of Athens the way she did in the Charlie bookmark, so...)

Doesn't matter, the only correct way to play Byzantium in this start will be to overthrow either of them as Nikephoros Phokas and then reconquer the whole empire.

I'm so hyped! If no changes are made to the rulers in history files, we'll be able to play Mieszko I and unite Poland. Heck, his legendary father Siemomysł and even grandfather Lestek would still be alive (with Lestek still ruling Greater Poland as and elderly chief).

OOOHH MY GOD!!! There will be the Hungarian Invasions of Europe too mabye? :O :D
