I think there's a typo, as the Ottonian dynasty was previously known as Liudolfinger and not Ludolfinger (missing "i"). Otherwise, I'm quite hyped for this new startdate, as I've been hoping for it for a very long time now :D

Aren't there already a sunni and a shia caliph? Or is it just a title?

And thanks for your quick reply

Well, it functions as an Empire title with Caliph as a title. But it does not have the same effects as the other Caliph titles, as those are religious heads, this one isn't.

I'm curious if this bookmark will have story events similar to those in the Charlemagne bookmark, given that Otto is identified as a "protagonist" and all.

He has some events, yes. Thankmar's rebellion (see the AAR I linked to in the first post of the DD) is the first part of it.

Is there a game rule to disable those events, as in the case of Charlie's story, in case you're not particularly fond of historical railroading?

Good catch.

Yes.

Can we get a full screenshot of the map?

In my opinion, the Qarmatians shouldn't have a Caliphal head title at all. Their whole schtick was refusing to believe that there would be any other Imams after Muhammad ibn Ismail, who they think went into occultation. According to them, he would only return as the al-Mahdi -- an apocalyptic messianic figure. They absolutely refused to believe in any claimants of being Muhammad ibn Ismail's successor, including the Fatimids. To me, having the Qarmatians have a formable Caliphal head figure is like Catholicism having a Jesus/Messiah formable head figure.

Besides that, I'm very excited to play as the Caliphates of Cordoba and Fatimids. :)

Would this update bring some kind of major/minor basic gameplay changes or features, or it's essentially "just" making new bookmark?
I'm asking because I used to play highly modded grand campaigns, and I HATE when some new instruments for gameplay appear when I'm in the middle of the game.

Two new cultures, a new heresy (Qarmatians), and some minor map reworks. Potentially some bug fixes. Besides that it is only the new bookmark.

So in terms of mapping Holy Fury pagan leadership types it seems the best fitting for them might be Autonomous?

Oleg of Rus was Grand Prince of the Rus at this time...will we being seeing his starting situation in a dev diary focused on the pagans remaining in Eastern Europe?

Somewhere between Autonomous and Autocephalous, as the Jannabids did have local influence among the Qarmatians -- but this is not at all comparable to the legitimate, divine authority of a Caliph/Imam.

Snow Crystal is teasing again.

Looks to me like an "anti" title system is being set up whereby in certain circumstances (caliphs or byzantines) emperors/caliphs in opposition can be established.
As cool as that would be, I think it's more likely that it's just an empire-rank "Caliphate of Al-Andalus" titular title with no actual mechanics attached to it.

Sadly, it is. I would've loved to have a rival Caliphate system in the game, but we've had no time to add that for Iron Century.

Can you tell us something about those?

Sardinian for ... Well ... Sardinia. And Slovien as a proto-Slovak culture.

I'm not sure who are CK2 devs competing with. They're so far up there at the top that no other studio comes to sight far down there in the distance.

Looking forward for many more years of CK2... until CK3 or bust because there is nothing that can replace it for me.

Given what they're naming this update, this is clearly to make fun of the EU4 dev team.

Hate to repost this but I'm still curious about Kievan Rus in this start date

Will Kievan Rus' still be Slavic Pagan in this start date? Officially the Baptism of Rus occrued in 988 but there was a considerable Orthodox influence on the country ever since the 930s and many of the people living there were already Christian. Will this perhaps be represented by events or anything similar?
