CK2 Dev Diary# 23: More rules, less lunatics

Hello all, it’s time for a CK2 DD once again. Now before I get into the meat of this one, I want to let you know that DDs between DLCs are going to be shorter than the big feature-explainers I could write during Reaper’s, so don’t be surprised if some are brief.

Moving on, work on 2.6.2 continues well, and I’ll post the patch notes when it’s closer to being done, but some fixes that may interest people include:
  • AI Characters are much less likely to take Experimental treatments for minor illnesses, which means you should see less maimed or insane character about in the world.
  • Patricians can now properly Go into Seclusion and Search for Court Physicians.
  • Characters under 16 no longer get gout.

We have added more Game Rules:
  • Supernatural events can be set to Unrestricted, allowing the AI to have fun with them too.
  • Both Mongol and Aztec invasions can be set to “Delayed Random” where they will show up at random but not before the year 1000 and not before the game has been played for 50 years.
  • Turkic Conquerors can be set to Historical/Random/Off.
  • Way of Life users can set Dueling to Normal/Restricted/Unrestricted.
  • Both Vassal and Demesne limits can be set to Normal/Unlimited/50%/25%
  • Grant Independence can be set to Normal/Unrestricted.
  • Assassinate plots in MP can be set to Normal/No Players/No Players + Heirs/No Player Dynasty.

We have also continued to add more Content, including:

The various Defensive Pagan faiths now allow you to pick a Patron Deity granting a bonus to certain stats, and allowing access to certain new events:

Plus, all Pagan religion now have their own Valhalla-bound equivalent:

Characters in Seclusion may find they have an uninvited guest:

Immortal characters are now a lot more likely to wake up from Incapacitating head wounds, and there is no longer an age limit on said event for Immortals.
Even non-depressed Immortals who find that life Eternal isn’t all that great may now attempt to end their life.
Not only that, it’s also possible that Immortal characters may find they are not the only people to have found Eternal life, and that their brethren are not the most welcoming types:

say one thing for Rurik Rurikid, say he's lucky

And that's it for now, see you next week!

What happen to crown authority?

Nice to see more content for the Defensive Pagans! The Patron Deities system for them is a good addition.
Will there be a way for modders to know what files need changing / have been updated for when the update rolls in?
Through the traditional way with Winmerge or some other comparing tool with the 2.6.1 files.

Ah, a bit sad of that. I guess I'd like a post similar to one you made; https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...changed-files-between-2-5-2-and-2-6-1.965022/ , but done by Paradox to show us what files actually need changing. I guess that's just my hope for the future.

Could you add a 200% increase for the demesne size (even if it disables achievements)? Because going unlimited is a bit too much for my liking.

Great to hear that defensive pagans are getting some love, it'll make playing as them a lot more enjoyable! Any chance of giving the Shia or non-Catholic Christians some much needed flavour?

I will do a similar post again (if I remember to backup the files), but I'm afraid neither I nor PDS can give you more details than that, unless you want to see the exact changes inside the files or an explanation on what it does.

Oh, thanks, friend. Yeah I'll wait for you to do a similar post, I suppose. So you'll do what files have changed between 2.6 and 2.6.2?

Yes, a list of names of the changed, removed and added files.

Great news!

What about lifetime related decisions(tournaments, subjugation wars) for immortals? Are you going to add a cooldown for those?

A General (very long) cooldown for all "once in an lifetime" events would be cool anyway. If you take 50 years almost no "normal" ruler would be able to have 2 tournaments or change crown laws twice (if you do not have Conclave)

Speaking of which—for the end of the eternal life event chain, it seems like an oversight that in only three out of the seven successful branches, your mystic is granted the Immortal trait. The rest of the branches he remains non-immortal. If you do a search for the string "= immortal" in rip_eternal_life_events.txt you can see what I mean. This gets in the way of the achievement where you kill an immortal, which was (I can only guess) designed with you killing your mystic in mind.

BTW, don’t know to what extent you manually process those reports or if they come out of your diff client as they are, but check out DiffMerge if you haven’t. It has great summary reports of a similar format right out of the box.

Basic shiite could get "Schools" like Zaydism with stat bonus and events, bit like Pagans.

Hurufi heresy should be replaced by Qarmatianism (No Hajj, Raiding, +1 health, perhaps intermarry with Mazdans to account for Persian mysticism)

Druze should lose polygamy, gain reincarnation, Hajj/Ramadan replaced by something else, new localization, perhaps also let Druzes not have issues with voting for women's laws,

Seems similar to WinMerge, but allowing three-way too. As for the manuality of what I did, it was just copy-pasting file names.

Seeing continued support for the game after DLC is released is amazing. I know you guys always do it, but I just wanted to express how much I appreciate and love the fact you guys add more content with each patch.

I am glad that the Great Holy War traits for all Pagans are coming so quickly.:) And also the traits for defensive Pagans.

Now it would be great to have some nice achievements for Pagans.

So far there is a severe lack of achievements for Pagans, IIRC there are none for Suomenusko, Slavic, Romuva and West African. Only Zunist and Zoroastrian got a few (or rather one each?), and of course the Germanic faith which always gets your special attention like the favorite child that always gets spoiled.:p

P.S.: Please add the missing traits for Jewish Holy Warriors and Zoroastrian ones!

What's the point of separate Crusader traits for different religions apart from cooler non-generic name? Isn't it a problem in setting up triggers when you have to check for few traits instead of just one?

Not at all, that's what scripted triggers are for.

sun_warrior;Warrior of the Sun;;;;;;;;;;;;;x
sun_warrior_desc;The Warriors of the Sun strike with all the fiery power of Zun Himself.;;;;;;;;;;;;;x

A better Warrior of the Sun description would be: "The Warriors of the Sun engage in jolly co-operation and strike with all the grossly incandescent power of Zun Himself."

Can you please extend the patron deity mechanic to Tengri as well? Because right now, Tengri and Aztec are the most featureless of the pagans, besides ancestor worship. Tengri has no feast event either, so please bring more life into the non Germanic offensive pagans!

If you're referring to how the Jihad and the Crusader hate each other as opposites.

It isn't an invalid thought. But I simply assumed that with reformed pagans, that never reformed in history, that their crusade / jihad traits simply would not have opposites.
