CK2 Dev Diary #75 - Enter the Dragon

Hi everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great weekend!

The countdown has started and Jade Dragon will soon be available for download; this Thursday in fact!

By now, I think we’ve covered most aspects of the expansion pretty thoroughly, so I think I'm just going to post this beautiful new loading screen:

Take care folks, and if you want one last sneak peak of the expansion before Thursday, make sure to tune in to the CK2 livestreams today, starting at 16:00 CET! Servancour will do a special quick run-through of the new features!

Could you give us pictures of the cultural setup in the middle east and over to the edge of the map? I know you've posted this before, but there have been map changes since you did.

Is it Justinian?
Seriously though, it's probably either inland republics, or a redo of Africa.
Honestly, if it's either of those two things I'm going to be annoyed (Justinian would be cool though, if a bit out of place). I'm primarily hoping for a rework of the dynasty system, one of the most crucial aspects of the game. In particular, cadet branches.

Seriously though I think, unless Doomdark is just playing with us and actually it's something nobody's asked for (like guns, or a HoI4 converter), it will be a crusades-related DLC. I doubt there's any chance for naval combat, cadet dynasties wouldn't be big enough by themselves and Africa would go down about as well as RoI.

Africa would go down about as well as RoI.
I don't think anybody is asking for an RoI-like Africa expansion, more on the scale of this Tibetan expansion, to make it a bit harder to conquer it.

An Africa rework can always be made as a smaller DLC after, granted that the next DLC is not the last.

It's not "Something that was extremely requested", but it would still make a valid addition while not being as extensive as Jade Dragon or Rajas of India in terms of new content required for the region.

The only thing left a lot of people have asked for are Playable Theocracies/inland republics and cadet family branches.....

Crusade reworks, my man.

Theocracies probably won't ever be done due to the dynastic nature of the game, and in-land republics are pretty irrelevant in terms of scale. You have Novgorod, but that's pretty much the extent of their presence in the game's timeline.

I wouldn't be surprised if cadet branches are added as a feature in an unrelated DLC though.

Naval Combat and Playable theocracies are out of question as the Devs made it pretty clear they have no intention to implement these. Africa too is unlikely, they'd squeeze China in if they thought that the game was optimized enough to more provinces this soon.

Most likely, it will be a Crusade Rework or Cadet Dynasties, maybe Inland Republics. Those were demanded for ages.

Novogorod wasn't a real inland republic anyway, it was situated on a lake and drew a lot of its income from river and coastal trade. Novgorod was the hub that joined the Baltic world of the Hansa to the resources of the arctic.

Not wanting to sound like a first world problem, but why don't you guys plan out with the other teams the launching of new DLCs?

EU4 is also launching a new DLC this thursday and now we want us to split time between them?
At least give us 3 weeks between one and the other...

It's on purpose. They did the same thing with the last EUIV DLC and the last HOI DLC. There's probably going to be a bundle or something to that extent as well.

Also the ruler of Novgorod was not a Merchant but they elected one of the Russian princes as Prince of Novgorod. Very complex.

Isn't the next DLC (the one after Jade Dragon), supposed to be the last, and also supposed to be smaller (like Monks and Mystics or Reaper's Due sized)?
They said they could go on as long as expansions keep selling and that the game stays stable.

We have no confirmation that the next DLC would be the last one, but that could very much be possible. They could also keep going.

No one but Paradox knows what the future holds.

To all the people saying China as a response to the next dlc.....
WOW YOUR SO FUNNY AND ORIGINAL !!!
In case you couldn't tell thats sarcasm and i for one am much happier with this implementation of China, if it was just a map extension it would make china seem like just another empire on the map with no purpose, but with this they really feel like a powerhouse worth kowtowing to. I genuinely cannot wait
