Wow, time flies and the first month of 2018 is almost over! I have been meaning to write an update what is happening at Colossal Order but have been too busy to get to it [add lame excuses here]... After receiving concerned feedback from fans if we are even alive I decided to take the time to write how 2018 started for us and how the year looks! As usual our publisher will kill me if I reveal anything I shouldn't so you will just have to wait for them to announce stuff when they are ready for it ;)

The Christmas break ended for us on the 2nd of January and everyone got back to the office well rested and eager to continue the work on Cities: Skylines. Last autumn was quite rough with the office move and staying on top of the development of Cities: Skylines at the same time. But it definitely was worth the trouble as the team has been really happy with the new office environment!

To get inspired for future development we have been collecting a lot of feedback from the forums, social media and the closed modding beta. I'm really hoping you will like the next thing we are working on for the game! As usual that's pretty much all I can say at this point. However please keep the feedback and suggestions coming as 2018 will still be all about Cities: Skylines over here at Colossal!

We want to continue delivering content and features you desire so we have hired new personnel to the team to do so. A new animator joined the art team and two new game testers will make sure we can have better quality content delivered. They will also read bug reports and feedback from the forums and log it into our internal bugtracking system. As the company grows bigger we also are getting help from a new 2D artist/office manager. Her job is to make sure our team is well hydrated and gets to eat cake often enough <3 She is also going to produce a ton of Chirper images, I hope :D

This means Colossal Order is now 23 people strong. Do you remember that when Cities: Skylines was released we were only 13 people? It was almost three years ago! We have now new offices, new team members, but same Colossal spirit. It's also truly amazing to see how invested you fans of the game are and we are super motivated to keep working on Cities: Skylines. So big thanks to everyone from the team and I :)
And Happy New Year everyone <3

Cheers,
Mariina

no, i have just read far too many posts asking the same thing over and over again that I have CO's answer drummed into me.

So you don't know then 100%.
I realize it might be unlikely though as you've pointed out. But still.

I guess by the number of disagrees I've gotten people don't want seasons though so if I'm the only one wanting it, I can definitely understand it's not a high priority by Colossal!

There is some interest in it, but CO did indicate that it wasn't happening. Sure, that could change, but it seems highly unlikely.

This isn't the case at all. I'm sure all players would like to have seasons in the game. It's not a matter of priorities; CO tried to make it happen for the second dlc they offered, but apparently it couldn't be done and still maintain minimum specs. We were all disappointed but we've learned to live with it.

I know. I was there when they released it.
All I'm trying to say is that many companies say "feature X is impossible" and then X years later they release it anyway. I mean, it's programming, of course it's POSSIBLE, it's a matter of priorities and demand. If enough people want it, they'll find a way or they will lose customers :)

I guess my original point was that I was expressing my wish for the next DLC. My opinion. However unlikely it is that they release it, that is my wish and hopes for the DLC anyway :)

Meh...
Dynamic seasonal changes hasn't been possible and that isn't likely to change in this iteration of C:S.
However, creating a seasonal look has always been possible!
I was creating snowy landscaped cities from April 2015 onwards (see above)... long before Snowfall. That was also long before CO implemented the Theme Editor which makes it now even easier to customise your textures, atmospherics and lighting in order to create whatever appearance or seasonal look you desire. So, there really is no excuse for feeling as if you're stuck with the seasons that already exist. Create your own look and add appropriate landscaping items, flora and props from the workshop.

As I said. My opinion.

I'm 99% sure this as yet unannoucned expansion, which I'm 99% sure will be announced at PDXCON, will be about fine tuning industry (every other zone type has received upgrades except it) and about adding increased management options.

Nah I think it'll be announced long before May seeing as we're in the position where we know something is happening. Hell we might even have a trailer before then.

As for what it is, I hope it's the overhaul of the crime system and addition of riots I keep banging on about :p The hiring of new animators makes me think that something is happening on that front.

Cities : Skylines birthday is on the 10th of March, for sure this is the release date for the next expansion, something new will be announced at the PDXCON (like mass transit last year)

Maybe not an expansion (bit too soon for that) but I could see some mini-DLC being released like with Pearls Of The East or something

"the next thing we are working on for the game" and "2018 will still be all about Cities: Skylines"

So nope, I'm pretty sure Marina was talking about the new game they are developing for Paradox and really doubt it would be the sequel for Cities (as they would rather expand on the existing rather than create everything from scratch). Also, it's too soon for CS2 and they would only anger their fanbase.
The most likely thing is probably some theme park game or their version of CiMs, just my two cents.

Of course, that's not to say that there won't be any new DLCs for CS this year, quite contrary, I bet they will try to keep the game running as long as people keep buying its expansion, similiar as with CK2 and EU4.

I'd be very surpised if they're working on a new game. And the quotes you've linked say the opposite of them making a new game? Not sure how you made you conclusion

Actually they already tried adding seasons with Snowfall and it was deemed not feasible. This game is already overloaded and adding seasons would require everyone to have a highend gaming rig to play. so no, it isn't coming this round. Maybe CS:2

That's why all the neg. feedback. It's just disheartening to hear it brought up and know it isn't going to happen. So don't take it personally.

I can't see a rush hour mode in the game as it is presently, after all they still haven't fixed the 'O what a beautiful sunrise' chirp for day/night. The time differences are too great. I've tried the mod but it just slows things down too much. It would be interesting however, in a new game made for it. Schools closed at night, heavy traffic to and from workplaces in the morning and late afternoon, a distinction between evening and the dead of night would make the game more realistic.

2 respectful disagreements with my two statements above? LOL?
What exactly are you disagreeing with?
The first statement is a statement of fact. Here's just one of several replies from CO regarding this,
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...e-week-17-33-2016.962342/page-2#post-21721109
Now where's your rebuttal?
The second statement is a statement of historic record.
Prior to Snowfall, it had always been possible with a mod to change the textures and with the aid of props and landscaping assets, you were able to create whatever seasonal appearance you so desired. The Snowfall update introduced the Theme Editor for free. This made the texture replacing mod redundant and offered even more control over lighting and atmospherics. Since then it has never been easier to customise the seasonal appearance of the game.
How do you dispute that? I'm intrigued. Be respectful by all means, but let's hear your reasoning for your disagreements. Thank you ;)
