Console Edition Development Diary #65 - Expansion Pass Six Progress Update

Greetings Console Edition Community!

We're excited to share some big news with you. First off, we have an important update about the development of Stellaris: Console Edition - Tantalus is back at the helm for the development of Stellaris: Console Edition.

At the launch of Expansion Pass Six, we promised regular updates on progress, and this switch in developers is part of the reason we have not been as regular with our updates as we had initially intended. Tantalus has been back working on Console Edition for several months at this point, and has hit the ground running making First Contact and Galactic Paragons work on Consoles. We’re excited to share their progress with you.

But before we get into the rest of the update, we want to clear up any concerns that the change in developer might spark in advance: We are currently on track for the 2024 release of Galactic Paragons and the First Contact Story Pack for Stellaris: Console Edition.

A New Era with Tantalus

Let’s dive straight into it, significant progress has been made with the latest milestone delivery.
The Tantalus team has successfully implemented Text-to-Speech for both Xbox and PlayStation, added a detailed message settings system, made many of the UI/UX changes coming in the next version, and have approved mockups for those UI elements that still need to be worked on. Additionally, during the process of updating Console Edition to the latest version, they’ve been able to add time to focus on squashing bugs, improving performance, and introducing new features that enhance your gameplay.

Text-to-Speech

One of the big goals for the next release is Text-to-Speech (TTS) functionality. This feature aims to make the game more accessible and immersive.

Pressing the right stick will activate Text to Speech in Stellaris: Console Edition 3.9

UI and UX Enhancements

The UX Team spent some time reviewing the existing UI screens in Stellaris: Console Edition and making many minor changes and improvements, as well as implementing new UIs and creating mock-ups for those that are still remaining.

There’s still a lot of UI work to be done.

Message Notifications

Notifications are a fact of life in Stellaris, in the PC version of 3.9, there is a very granular system for turning on and off notifications. We’re proud to say we’re bringing this feature to Stellaris: Console Edition as well.

AD_4nXdxhYPUGHbXwitU7Qd3rCyurB528K0RYntFLGbL7PhQer4CTVs147OYiJDSLjSz0KT4qNh5kPqR8fR1dHwjxG7xcF4O5z1epFal2S75BF4TyWvW2BoKSqDCAVfcq2bAU6sxcLhcDQ0IRb7UKzBLTzxNZRdf

Here you will be able to customize your game notifications, by turning off specific notification types. Our hope is that this reduces the overall cognitive load and results in a more enjoyable experience while playing.

Optimized Performance

Performance and stability improvements are always a priority. During this milestone we’ve addressed several stability issues and performed optimization on some game systems, which we hope will result in a smoother (and faster!) experience for players.

The team has also identified several other areas where we feel there is potential for future performance improvements.

Bug Fixes and Quality of Life Improvements

As mentioned, we’ve been going through our bug backlog and are working on fixing existing bugs, while at the same time working on the remaining issues related to porting the game from PC to Console.

During our review of the UI, we also noticed that there were some areas where the controls were inconsistent from one screen to another, and resolved these issues.

What would improve the Quality of Life in Stellaris: Console Edition for you? Let us know in the comments!

Looking Forward

Since returning to the project, we’ve made progress in leaps and bounds, and we’re excited to be back to bring Stellaris 3.9, Galactic Paragons and the First Contact Story Pack to Console Edition! We'll be back with more on the development of the second update for Expansion Pass Six soon.

For me you have lost all trust and I don't believe anything you announce anymore. Show that you deliver what you promise and then we'll see, and for my part, performance improvement should come before new content, make the game playable first before you try to sell us another paid DLC.
I know on console the ps4 is having a lot of trouble keeping up, going to the ps5 my system has a lot better time keeping up.

They need to stop pushing the computer stuff and catch everyone up. Fixing the bugs, getting everyone on the same page content wise, and THEN push out new DLC's that everyone can pay for and enjoy and NOT screw the console players over.

Are they? So far with everything they keep doing, doesn't look like it.

Ooh, two whole posts. Yes, that sure justifies your assumption. And calling someone a 'tool' exposes your maturity level.
Also, speaking about maturity... you misread my post earlier and took offense because you thought I said "ALL CONSOLE USERS" and got offended and still continued to be the tool that you are. So I am sticking with what I said regardless of your stance on "Mental Maturity" lol.

Keep trying...
Lol. What it is, is you're mad that people are upset over a company's actions that you love. You dislike that others have had opinions that you dislike. Deal with it a move on holmes. Stop being the tool you are and just leave be.

"Wow, an actual console dev diary... Progress ig" - Razorx06 Dev Diary 64.

"ok I've had enough!! I deleted the game, reinstalled it, deleted all data from the PlayStation cloud as well as my saved empires and saved games... tragedy... I've played it at least 10 times and every time I get to 2260 the game starts to choke. it seems to run smoothly, but it's just an illusion because it freezes for one second every 5 seconds... you can't play like that!! people do something about it!! I only lost all my saved empires and saved games... I'm out, I don't have the strength to play this game anymore." - Jonderski Dev Diary 64.

Infact, theres a lot of discussions on the poor performance of the ps4 console edition on dev dairy 64. (Most of the comments are aimed at it.)

"I have a few thousand hours in as well over the last few years. Uninstalled the game because the support for console and the communication is insulting. Put up with it for a long time, hoping it would get better. Came to check in and I see it has not improved at all." - Wellsthegreat Dev Dairy 64

Dev Dairy 63 there's talking of just all the bugs and crashes going on.

So, when I said me AND OTHER console players are upset... guess it might just make you even more upset huh....? Want me to continue?

Dev Dairy 64 and 65 both apologized for lack of communication. Might be something there if the Devs are apologizing... Anyways... kick rocks. :p Have a good one.

*Gets shown others being upset, ignores it. Gets told how wrong he was when he got upset, ignores it. Says the other person is wrong.*
Bwahahahahaha.

Btw: Tool refers to a foolish person. Tool is an internet slang term that refers to an insecure person, usually male, who is controlled by others. You, whom follows a gaming company blindly and not holding them up to any standards, and then attacking others whom you didn't agree with after misunderstanding what was being said... meets the definition of a Tool. Hence why I called you it. You are foolish. You blatantly got aggressive over the fact that others have been upset with paradox over how they have been not communicating, not fixing their bugs, etc. You assumed I said ALL console players when I didn't, thinking I was speaking FOR you when that wasn't the case. You act like everyone agrees with you that they are the best and most special gaming company that can do no wrong. Then presented with evidence that I was not just speaking out of my rear like you have been, still ignored it. Bravo, you meet the definition of the word that you felt that my use of the word showed my "maturity" lol. Whelp... Thank you.

Now that I have thoroughly dealt with you, and all you can say is "nuh huh I won you lost don't care what you say" I am going to now ignore your tool rear. Have that day you deserve bub.

Btw, calling someone a "tool" is teenage slang that was used mostly in the 2000s and was pretty much ONLY used by teens from 10-20 years ago. What country are you from that currently thinks 10-20 year old teen slang is the right way yo go here? You should check the dates when that "term" was even popular. it IS about YOUR maturity level, though, as YOU are the one using 10-20 year old teenage slang in 2024 and thinks it's a "thing" lol. even if I don't disagree, what's foolish(hilarious) is using 10-20 year old teen slang like it's STILL popular lolol

Lol. Oh noooooo! Someone used an old term against someone! GASP... the humanity of it all! How dare I use an accurate term on the interwebs!

So, your issue is I used Tool and not that I was accurate about the other issues as well. So instead of going "Good point, you didn't say all console players, and good point that you showed that there are indeed upset console players other than yourself" but to focus on "that really old term being used now instead of some other word." Come on man. Of all the asinine things to complain about, you target TOOL... and not that other stuff that was far more important?

Hello, I only play Stellaris on the Console (ps4). Before now I’ve never really posted on these forums. I can’t wait for the latest dlcs to come out for console. I’m mainly excited to have the ability to make my Leaders actually important; up till now they’ve felt very stale and unimportant other. I personally from a Roleplay perspective prefer to customize my characters. So having that option is going to be so cool.

As for any other quality of life things— I can only really think of the maps. It’d be awesome if the other star types could be updated for small galaxy that way those on consoles could try the other types such as spiral arm 2 & 4 Without worrying about lag. Another QOL would be to add a scaling slider for the scaling Difficulty that way players can slowly try out different types of difficulties without being thrown to the gauntlet right away. I do enjoy how the AI gets over time bonuses to help them, but I’d be good to control how many bonuses they get up to that point— be it mid or late game. Not sure if this is in the computer version but I think it’s a good idea.

It’d also be good to be given an option to decide what sort of event may occur from the L-Gate. I always found it very lackluster that sometimes the L-Gate wouldn’t provide a threat when open. I’d prefer personally to be able to have it be more of a pseudo mid game crisis if it occurs; something to shake the status quo in the galaxy. Having the option would be very nice.

I also hope that the astral plane dlc is on the works for the next coming up console update after paragon. I really like the idea of spicing up a he mid to late game exploration part.

I think that’s it. I hope my feedback provides some usefulness.
