Dev Diary #113 - Wonderful Views

Hello!

It was really great reading all your comments and questions last week, lots of fun ideas. This week we will be looking a bit more in depth at the wonder view. Which you can see below.

The wonder view. Please note that art is Work in progress and may change!

Firstly, we have the name of the wonder. This will change dynamically based on where it is built, and what upgrades it has. For example you might build ‘The Cathedral of Stockholm’. Then, after building the Spikes upgrade, this may become ‘The Bloody Cathedral of Stockholm’. We also have a dynamic description that works just like the naming system, but more detailed.

There is also an image of the wonder, which is dynamic to an extent as well. The background depends on where you are in the world (Desert, Jungle, Snow etc) and the depiction of the wonder changes depending on the stage, going from being in construction to highly decorated or even in ruins.

Now, below this we have the modifier box, where you can find all the modifiers provided by the wonder. Some of these are granted by the wonder itself and some are granted by upgrades, but they are all listed here. These modifiers can either affect the top liege, or the province the wonder is in.

Below this we have the progress bar, which will show your progress when upgrading to a new stage of your wonder.

Lastly, we have the upgrade view which is split into two tabs, completed, and available. In the ‘completed’ tab you can see a breakdown of the upgrades you have built and their effects, and in the ‘available’ tab you can see all the upgrades you are able to build.

let us know, your questions and comments and we will do our best to answer them!

Also as a note, a lot of people have predicted that the ancient Egyptian Religion will be making a return. I can confirm that the Egyptian Religion will NOT be in this upcoming patch. That doesn’t mean we are against it in the future though….

Will wonders appear on map, like the buildings in the Corners of the World pack? Will we have several options for the wonders, for example, cathedral/palace/mausoleum...?

P.S: talking about the corners of the world, can you add more corners? I would like to see the walls of Constantinople and the Colosseum of Rome :)
Hopefully they will! More on this later.

Nice job, I wondered if we could build "generic" wonders in each city (if it's our capital for example) or we can build wonders in some specific provinces?
You can build a wonder in every province unless it already has a wonder. These will be generic. Some historical wonders will already exist though.

Looking at the screenshots a bit more closely it seems the wonders give you 0.01 monthly prestige per level. That seems rather low, given the investment. Especially if you compare how the Proud trait gives 0.5 prestige per month (50x as much).

Could you make the limit on wonders per province un-hardcoded. I'm thinking specifically for mods such as Game of Thrones where there are multiple wonders in King's Landing, but also for vanilla where there are several cathedrals in small areas, hell Constantinople could be said to have at least 2 wonders there, Rome certainly has several.

As always its work in progress, so you never know we might tune it up to 0.02 prestige a month. :)

While we would love to do this, its unfortunately something we would have to spend some time on programming, so for now atleast it has to be a single wonder per province.

Please, don't.
The Middle Ages has cooler things that could be introduced into the game than a long dead religion without almost any cultural impact on the people of the time.

Ah ok, fair enough. Well, whilst I have your attention river travel needs to stop being a religious doctrine:

"Hey Snorri, we need to head home now... no is that a bible?!?"

Would it be possible to modify sacred buildings of other religions to use them for my own religion with bonuses for me and my religion and penalties for them? Like what Turks did to Hagia Sophia but not limited only to this case.
This is something we would like to do, however unsure if we will have enough time / resources to do it justice so it might not make it in. :)

Will this change already buildable 'wonder-esque' buildings in the game? I'm specifically thinking about the Third Temple in Jerusalem, will it still be built via a Decision or is there any chance of converting it to be a special Wonder?

Will I be able to switch out upgrades after upgrade construction?

How much initial cost are we talking?

I'm gonna be honest if we could keep the whole scaling to income away from this it would be great.
