Dev Diary #113 - Wonderful Views

It was really great reading all your comments and questions last week, lots of fun ideas. This week we will be looking a bit more in depth at the wonder view. Which you can see below.

The wonder view. Please note that art is Work in progress and may change!

Firstly, we have the name of the wonder. This will change dynamically based on where it is built, and what upgrades it has. For example you might build ‘The Cathedral of Stockholm’. Then, after building the Spikes upgrade, this may become ‘The Bloody Cathedral of Stockholm’. We also have a dynamic description that works just like the naming system, but more detailed.

There is also an image of the wonder, which is dynamic to an extent as well. The background depends on where you are in the world (Desert, Jungle, Snow etc) and the depiction of the wonder changes depending on the stage, going from being in construction to highly decorated or even in ruins.

Now, below this we have the modifier box, where you can find all the modifiers provided by the wonder. Some of these are granted by the wonder itself and some are granted by upgrades, but they are all listed here. These modifiers can either affect the top liege, or the province the wonder is in.

Below this we have the progress bar, which will show your progress when upgrading to a new stage of your wonder.


Lastly, we have the upgrade view which is split into two tabs, completed, and available. In the ‘completed’ tab you can see a breakdown of the upgrades you have built and their effects, and in the ‘available’ tab you can see all the upgrades you are able to build.

Also as a note, a lot of people have predicted that the ancient Egyptian Religion will be making a return. I can confirm that the Egyptian Religion will NOT be in this upcoming patch. That doesn’t mean we are against it in the future though….

Will there be ways (for modders, at least) to (temporarily) deactivate some or all of the bonuses from a wonder, e.g. the (presumably Norse) Temple of Uppland granting no bonuses (and possibly granting penalties instead, e.g. conversion resistance or revolt risk) in Catholic hands until you spend money/piety/whatever to re-consencrate it as a Christian church?
 
In holy fury, pagan monuments things like Irminusl has become modifier, will Irminsul become wonder?

And what about buisiness focus tower(leaning one too) and maze? If leaning tower is going to be a wonder, then how about real leaning tower built at 1372?
Its a question of time, we'd like to convert these to atleast upgrades.

You could change the modifiers for the wonder in script I believe. :)
 
1) What benefits do wonders give when they got sacked or destroyed?
2) Does steward build time modifier help with wonder building too?
3) Will wonders tied to any technology?
4) Will there be a history tab for the wonders about when it started building, when did it got upgraded and which characters were involved during all this time?

So excited for this.

Also if you're still taking suggestions, if someone hasn't already brought it up a throne of skull really ought to be an option. Or at least a very large pile.
 
It's nice and all but the real question is how will it mesh in with the rest of the game. Will it just be another thing pretty much just glued on on top of everything else kind of how so many things in eu4 are or will you make it an integrated part of the game like you in the ck2 team usually manage to despite my initial misgivings?
 
Do I win the game if I complete a wonder and it doesn't get destroyed for 100 years?
 
Will bloodline affect what upgrades you get for example having a vile bloodline would allow for I don't know heads on pikes outside the wonder lowering revolt risk while benevolent or construction bloodline would have access to a granary that adds siege defense?

Tying in bloodlines is something we would like to do if we have time.
