Dev Diary #115 - Great Work

keyart-w-logo.jpg

Hello!

Today we have some exciting news, which is that we will be releasing the latest update for Crusader Kings 2 ‘Great Works’ on April the 2nd, which will be completely free. If you haven’t been following the dev diaries so far, this update will focus on various magnificent buildings you can construct, as well as existing historical ones.

I can also now confirm that we will be having 3D models of the wonders on the map. Several of these will be unique models while others will use a generic model for those constructions that don’t quite fit into a clear category. Either way, you will have a way to locate your magnificent wonder at a glance.

Wow, didn't know that.

Hopefully the number of wonders available per county will eventually go up in the future then, because I'd still love to restore the Library! :D

I second this. Not sure how we're including egyptian pyramids without including egyptian paganism but I hope future wonders are tied into new or old pagan religions. Start a new colossus of rhodes as a hellenic, upgrade Irminsul as germanic, rebuild and upgrade stonehenge as a new celtic paganism, start a new hanging garden as zoroastrianism. Or raze all of the above as a god fearing christian for moral authority and piety.

There are no specific fortress mechanics apart from their unique upgrades.
So, no chance that the Great Fortress might get linked to the Fort mechanic then?

I have a few questions,

will certain wonders be present in starts after there historic construction? (My local cathedral, Durham Cathedral is a UNESCO World heritage site and was built in 1093) so it got me thinking will major buildings in later dates be present after there construction?

Say I take Constantinople early as the Abbasids will I be able to convert it to a mosque as the Ottomons did or vice versa if a christian takes a mosque wonder?

Lastly will i be able to upgrade wonders that i take tough conquest?

This update seems pretty sweet, but I hope it doesn’t break existing 3.0x saves.

I got my first Immortal ruler as Matilda of Tuscany in 1072, and I have at least a dozen different branches I want to use that save for- reforming the Roman Empire, becoming Queen Of Jerusalem, conquering Mongolia, etc.

Not sure there are enough hours in the day to finish all that before this update drops.

@Tuscany
Aside from the Great Works are there any other goodies you guys will be drop alongside them? And whatever happened to the custom title things from ages ago?

id guess kemetism at the least. Considering they have mentioned pyramids have 'conditions' to build them

I'm too surprised/confused on how piramids are included without Egyptian religion, but we'll see. Plus it was said they aren't against adding it in the future.

Are you fixing some the issues with enatic clans that have been reported? Given how many of the game mechanics used to be strictly gendered it's not surprising that making them more universal caused issues though.

Also, please finally fix vice royalties and vassals not handing them out. It's been broken for so many versions now :(

There are many cultures that built pyramids, some of which are already in-game. Despite popular consciousness on it, the early ancient Egyptian religion really isn't necessary for pyramids. Doubly so since they stopped building them very early. I get why people keep thinking this, but... it's really just not nearly as relevant as people want it to be.

The type of pyramid in the art is clearly egyptian

Also yeah fix AI not handing out viceroyalties. One succession misstep and my byzantine empire is ruined by this.

Will these go into a special holding slot like hospitals, or will they get their own special UI?
Why not both? :D

We have shown off the UI a bit before.
I think it's in #113 :)

As long as building a pyramid remains locked behind the game rule for "Absurd events" it's all good.
Wonders will have its own game rule and while you can't limit which wonders are allowed and not (they should be fairly easy to mod away though) you should be able to have only the historical wonders and disallow creating new wonders. I say "should" because the historical version of the game rule still needs some testing.
