Dev Diary #115 - Great Work

keyart-w-logo.jpg

Hello!

Today we have some exciting news, which is that we will be releasing the latest update for Crusader Kings 2 ‘Great Works’ on April the 2nd, which will be completely free. If you haven’t been following the dev diaries so far, this update will focus on various magnificent buildings you can construct, as well as existing historical ones.

I can also now confirm that we will be having 3D models of the wonders on the map. Several of these will be unique models while others will use a generic model for those constructions that don’t quite fit into a clear category. Either way, you will have a way to locate your magnificent wonder at a glance.

I really enjoy the roleplay possibilities of this update, they seem like yet another great addition to this beautiful game! I do wish we had some kind of bug fix patch before April 2nd, the female rule hairstyle switch still persists which kind of bugs me..

Oh, please, please, please, please, please put in Kemetism. It would flesh out the pagan religions for random world generation (as well as add another possible religion to reform in NA) and man, I so want to play a game restoring an Egyptian empire. I mean, you'd have access to some of pharonic egyptian through the Copts, who are already in game...
I doubt they'll ever add it, but if they do I wonder how they'll handle the reformation options. Because only Temporal would make sense: The Pharaoh is considered a living God and head of the religion.

Hello. Will you add some artifacts for Hellenism? With this or next patch.
And speaking of Hellenism fix the localisation for Greek cultured names to actually show up.

But there were also periods with more than one pharaoh, and periods with no real pharaoh at all. Sometimes, it was local priests that took charge. Other times, it might be the High Priest of Amun running things in truth. Just as well, the ability of the priesthood to act independently of Pharaoh and of one another, with mixed local variations hither and thither and local priests doing local things, that at times it might be appropriate to say there simply isn't a religious head at all. With so many thousands of years of Egyptian history (much less the Kushites and Beja of the same faith, or the Berber tribes out west), the situation changed often enough that none of the given options are truly known to them.

Besides praise for the concept in general, also praise for making the update itself free. Just think of all the DLC's you can sell us on top of this update, just saying, since for once you'll not have to exclude new content from further developementdue to it being dlc only.

Will the Hill of Tara / Lia Fail be included as a pre-built wonder in Dublin/Kildare? It was a major political and cultural location in Medieval Ireland, with associations to the high-kingship
Was more a series of earthworks. Hard to compare it to some of the wonders here.

I take it some of these will be in game by default depending on when your start date is?
Historical wonders will be added in a similar way as to how historical characters are added. So they have the potential to be different depending on your start date =)

Why ? Joan d Arc looked like man anyway :).
o_O Joan of Arc wasn't the only woman that lived in the Middle Ages.

Another question about statues - have you taken into account that Muslims don't portray people in their art? So they shouldn't be able to build them (just checking).

P.S. since I didn't seem to get an answer last time - will there be a variety of 3D models for each type of wonder, or is there only one model for pyramids, one model for statues etc?

Based on replies/dislikes, i get that they have no sense of humor.
On normal side - yeah, i will love to see statues culture/gender based. Just recaled black adder and queen of spain beard, in which blacadder want to prevent mariage with her..and decide to dress like woman to prevent it. And whe sow him -- OOOooooh, how big love it must be, that you dressed up like spanish man :))).

Have you considered switching the 'Fort Holding' for a button and using that slot for the Wonder? It would be cool to see it directly on the province interface! I have made two exemples;

Or for an historical one,

I have put the 'Fort Button' next to the River / Trade Route info! This is only a proposition but tell me what you think!

really hope pagan get some weird wonders
maybe even a massive tree(that are built somehow)
Aside Irminsul is already in the game in some way but there's also that weird structure on Viborg I think its called. The one county island in the middle of Scandinavia (thats a sick place to start a Norse Venice at btw). It seems like things that were models on the game map already (like the pyramids) will be turned into an existing wonder. So will that structure on Viborg be a little unique wonder?

Easy, every pagan religion has one special powerful doctrine that kind of makes it an automatic pick. So lock the special Kemetic doctrine to require temporal. You can still have different leadership doctrine but you'd have to forfeit the special doctrine. The AI seems to always go for this default doctrine so if they ever reform it'll always be temporal.

These look great. The interface and quality of life needs a lot more love. Where's the supply limit map mode for example.

Haven't been this excited about a free update in quite a while, look forward to it!

I still haven't seen anything yet on whether my brave Viking warriors can burn these various wonders to the ground completely. Will they be destructible as the wonders of ancient times were, or at least lootable such as when numerous rulers in this time period stripped the pyramids of its outer layers of limestone for construction material?

Gorgeous.

Would be sweet to have something like this in EUIV as well. :p

Will Mod makers be able to spawn their own Wonders, complete with their own models?

If it's built like the EUIV National Monument thingies, it should be, yes.
