Dev Diary #116 - Agrarian Research Techniques

116_EyesLeft.png

116_EyesRight.png

... Anyone watching? No? Good.

Ok, just you and me. Great, because I've only got a few wee lil morsels today and I don't want to share them with too many people. So let's all just keep this quiet and, if anyone asks, the dev diary was about how we research thirteenth century agrarian techniques in rural France. Got it? Good.

I want you to tell me what this historical character...
116_Char1.PNG

... this historical character...
116_Char2.PNG

... and this historical character all have in common.
116_Char3.PNG

Figured it out? Yes? No? Waiting for someone else to scan through every character in the game before you hazard a guess? Ok, well, to be a bit fairer, it's got something to do with this:
116_ListCensoredv2.png

The list includes all the interactions in a particular category. You would not see all of them at the same time like this.
:D This has nothing to do with Wards & Wardens.

Finally, none of them are directly connected to this chap:

Alright, that's all I've got for you today, but I expect to be going over that list again soon. And in detail. If anyone asks, remember: rural France, agriculture, thirteenth century, yada yada.

Till next time!

First one's a Spymaster, last one's a ruler. After spending an hour or so scrolling through all the characters on both start dates, I couldn't find any one them. Closest thing was the Prince-Priest of Nice.

All I'm going to say is this riddle might have been more positively received if we'd had any substantive gameplay updates in the last few months. Being cryptic with people dying for information isn't a good combo.

I typically appreciate Wokeg's DDs and interactions with us, and I know this is out of his hands, but for gods sake PDX why does everything have to be so secretive with this next expansion, what ruin of the world is going to happen if we find out what they're working on?

If the first 3 all have being regents in common, then the last one could be someone who was in a regency. I saw the lion crest and thought Richard the Lionheart, but that would mean a 1189 - 1199 game start.

The lion crest is Scotland. I was thinking one of the guardians of Scotland right before the First Scottish War of Independence.

Though I doubt a new start date, Wokeg was very clear that this dev diary is about 13th century rural french agriculture. (1202 game start confirmed) ;)

(edit: I do not request or endorse any particular 13th century start date, nor any other particular start date)

Was the 13th Century when the French adopted the three-field system?

My first thought was crusades because of the Albigenesian Crusade in the 1200s but it seems throughly shown to be regencies

this was regarding throneroom pictures

So the room with cages is a throneroom background? the screenshots are clearly taken in the main menu.
But who would have such a background? It's gotta be for some tribal kings, in a particular region?
Interesting - colder though, I'm afraid ;).
You could at least tell us which start date it is...
Sure thing: 1066.
Aren't dna random every update. So if you are using a dev build these character would look different
For many characters, yes. :) I took a save on an unchanged release version of CK3 so that the DNA would stay the same, then loaded it up on a dev build. Made these pictures a bit easier to take.
First one's a Spymaster
Certainly the spymaster animation, that.

Saint Louis was king while that crusade was on going. And he had a regency.

One word: wills.

let the player have a hand in how their territory is divided and let us give the primary title to someone other than the eldest son.
to add to that I would like a setting in the basegame which would allow me to play with a random child instead of an heir - making it even more crucial to make effort and split my titles to my children equally

Succession crises. Upon Succession, you get a "legitimacy" score and you need to improve vassal opinions, make political marriages, etc, or other claimants can throw their hat in the ring and start a civil war. Also the ability to start and join Succession Factions, which support X claimant as the rightful heir, and upon succession you can choose whether to recognize the chosen heir or rise in revolt. And even if you don't rise in revolt, the more succession factions there are, the lower a new ruler's legitimacy is. And if your legitimacy drops low enough, it starts to make it easier for other people to fabricate a claim on your title.

So for instance, you could have a situation where a king has two sons. Usually it would go to the eldest without contest, but he has the "Disputed Heritage" trait, so several of the vassals join a succession faction supporting the second son. Then, when the old king dies, those vassals choose not to recognize the claim of the eldest and instead support the youngest, leading to a civil war between them and the loyalists.
I believe I wrote about this in the suggestions. That being said now that we have struggles - succession crisis can be implemented as an ad hoc struggle scenario

I personnaly won't like the randomness but being able to choose to play one your multiple heirs might be good

Oh my god. Not sure if anyone has noticed this yet as I haven't read the entire thread. We see new icons here which may be related to some new interactions. I think they have a common theme.

-???
1677026705373.png
- Release from prison
1677027606068.png
- ??? this is the symbol for an unpressed claim
1677027683027.png
- Sell title

1677026979450.png
- Succession law?

1677027091057.png
- Disinherit

1677027142053.png
- Revoke title

1677027175989.png
- ???
1677027206298.png
-??? implied to be some sort of title law
1677027367627.png
- ???
1677027399184.png
- ???
1677027545342.png
-The E makes me think something to do with Elective succession
1677027798533.png
- Destroy title
1677027822753.png
- ???

Basically, even if you think my theories about what the imagoes mean is complete doodoo, almost every single picture appears to be related to succession and titles. SO, are we getting a succession themed expansion which focuses on the transfer of titles?

I think you guys are looking this the wrong way. These are unrelated interactions, I think it's an anagram.

All letters including the P at the top could be used to spell

dress loss drip lord

This is a guess, perhaps someone smarter than me can find some new meaning from these letters.

I think you would do yourselves a favour by reducing the amount of dev diaries you make. You rarely have anything interesting to say, so you end up disappointing more people than you please. If the game was in a good place, then sure, make pointless dev diaries - but the game is almost 3 years old and still shallow as a puddle. I'm personally tired of event DLC and event updates. Put some actual meat on these bones.

People have been asking for dev diaries even if not substantional ones, you can't please everyone.

Just don't turn any of your Paradox games into "Flower picking games" - let Bethesda retain the title for king of flower picking games, don't Usurp their title.

If you develop flower picking games, many of us long-time customers will develop a rare flower pollen allergy that prevents us from buying any more of your games.

(is that cryptic enough for you Dev's?)
