Dev Diary #116 - Agrarian Research Techniques

... Anyone watching? No? Good.

Ok, just you and me. Great, because I've only got a few wee lil morsels today and I don't want to share them with too many people. So let's all just keep this quiet and, if anyone asks, the dev diary was about how we research thirteenth century agrarian techniques in rural France. Got it? Good.

I want you to tell me what this historical character...
116_Char1.PNG

... this historical character...
116_Char2.PNG

... and this historical character all have in common.
116_Char3.PNG

Figured it out? Yes? No? Waiting for someone else to scan through every character in the game before you hazard a guess? Ok, well, to be a bit fairer, it's got something to do with this:
116_ListCensoredv2.png

The list includes all the interactions in a particular category. You would not see all of them at the same time like this.
:D This has nothing to do with Wards & Wardens.

Finally, none of them are directly connected to this chap:

Alright, that's all I've got for you today, but I expect to be going over that list again soon. And in detail. If anyone asks, remember: rural France, agriculture, thirteenth century, yada yada.

Till next time!

If it's indeed about regencies then the fact Wards & Wardens won will really give a opportunity to tie things together between expansions this year, that's exciting - tho now that I think about it, I really don't know what those teaser pictures in previous DDs would have to do with regencies....
I think that regencies would fit in well with a theme that’s focused on ‘reinforcing the connection between map and character’ - if you’re physically abroad, then you’ll need a regent in place to govern your realm during your absence.

I just got a ‘love’ react from Wokeg to this post…I think this might tell us something about the likelihood of regencies making a return as part of the next update. :)
Not certain. Wokeg always jumps out from the bushes in when people talk about regencies. (Unless i am confusing them with another dev. Sorry, if that's the case!)

And now this would make clear why some of the Devs were surprised that W&W won.

But yeah. I think this is the teaser before the Trailer of the next Pack.

And this post just got a ‘like’ react from Wokeg…the plot thickens!

is an anagram of aquarian regencies charters.
Or it stands for ART, which is obviously referring to the ship AI of the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. CK3 + Stellaris Crossover confirmed!
Totally fits the upcoming Stellaris "First Contact" DLC. Looking forward to it.

See also below FYI Wokeg’s post about regency mechanics from about a month ago…I think I read it at the time to mean that regencies weren’t something on the radar just yet but, looking at it again, there’s nothing to indicate that they won’t in fact be part of the next update…

:p Such heartless insinuations about the nature of my character and the phrasing of my posts.
Is the Norse guy Oleg the Wise?
Nope.
Pupil interactions.
Sorry, but no.
The list of interactions can be a hint if we can match every currently existing one, then the unmatched ones would presumably be new interactions
;) These are all new interactions - varying from "that's a simple request" to mini-features, plus the one small scheme. I am very much looking forward to speaking about them in more detail at some point (hopefully) soon.

I do like me some regencies, it's true.

My hypothesis is the DLC itself is bigger than regencies (assuming that's correct guess), and all three pack suggestions will somehow improve the experience.
Assuming the DLC is about "Adventures and Royal Travels":
  1. If you're away from court, you can have regents
  2. On your travels you will find bandits, fight for honor...
  3. ...and romance! travel to neighbor kingdoms to meet a betrothed princess
If that proves correct... we can say the content pack voting was also a sort of teaser ;)

1. and 2. Are in CK2. So is the idea that this functions are new to CK3 but could have been in CK2?

“The theme is not one that has been the subject of an expansion in previous iterations of CK”

That’s what the developers have said re the content of the upcoming expansion…of course, the position is complicated by the fact that the statement doesn’t necessarily rule out a feature that we’ve seen a version of before (such as regencies, which were in CK2) from appearing as part of the expansion or the accompanying free patch.

See also below FYI Wokeg’s post about regency mechanics from about a month ago…I think I read it at the time to mean that regencies weren’t something on the radar just yet but, looking at it again, there’s nothing to indicate that they won’t in fact be part of the next update…

Going on this quote from that post in regards to regencies just resulting in the "majority of mechanics [being] removed from you":
^^' Yeah, I don't think we'd do that again. Potentially restricted access or other friction for some mechanics, sure, just locking stuff off without providing any alternate gameplay? Nah.
And this quote:
The list includes all the interactions in a particular category. You would not see all of them at the same time like this.
I think these interactions are specifically regency interactions, including both those for the regent and those for the person who has a regent, thus why you wouldn't see all of them at the same time.

is an anagram of aquarian regencies charters.
It's a near-anagram of Aquitaine Regencies (you wind up short an i and have shhaarrr left over). But if you are willing to do this NYT "Spelling Bee" style, words you could form from the letters include:
  • Aquitaine
  • Regencies
  • Cathars
Those three actually leave every letter used except for an h and two rs (and double use an i and a t), would fit with the previous tease about the bridge, characters being regents, and the hints pointing towards 13th century France.
