Dev Diary #116 - Agrarian Research Techniques

... Anyone watching? No? Good.

Ok, just you and me. Great, because I've only got a few wee lil morsels today and I don't want to share them with too many people. So let's all just keep this quiet and, if anyone asks, the dev diary was about how we research thirteenth century agrarian techniques in rural France. Got it? Good.

I want you to tell me what this historical character...

... this historical character...

... and this historical character all have in common.

Figured it out? Yes? No? Waiting for someone else to scan through every character in the game before you hazard a guess? Ok, well, to be a bit fairer, it's got something to do with this:

The list includes all the interactions in a particular category. You would not see all of them at the same time like this.
:D This has nothing to do with Wards & Wardens.

Finally, none of them are directly connected to this chap:

Alright, that's all I've got for you today, but I expect to be going over that list again soon. And in detail. If anyone asks, remember: rural France, agriculture, thirteenth century, yada yada.

Till next time!

I was actually enthusiast when I read the title. I tought maybe « farmlands » would become an upgrade available rather than a locked feature, or something like that. Anyway, I am sure i will enyoy the actual new developments

For a dev team to be able to do stuff like this and keep the players interested instead of just pissed off, there needs to be good will. Hideo kojima is super cryptic with his game releases but people tolerate it. Why? Because he makes good stuff that almost always delivers. The ck dev team has done nothing of the sort so far, so all stuff like this does is make people care even less. Especially after last weeks “dev diary” (it can barely be called that since it was showing a 3D model and nothing else). How can the dev team not see that what they need now is transparency to try and rebuild trust? We need to know that there is something substantial going on before we start caring again. Hell stellaris had a dev diary that was basically a villain introduction for the new dlc but people were fine with it, because they have been Outputting great content at a great pace for years now, and we have an idea of what is actually being worked on because we were told what the dlc is that is coming out, and there was a whole dev diary outlining what would be the subjects of the next several dev diaries, most of which have been compelling and given the community something to look forward to.
Edit: wow I just looked at the eu4 dev diary today. If you guys want to see what I’m talking about when it comes to a good dev diary, go there. Them both coming out on the same day is a side by side comparison of what a good dev diary is vs what not to do.

Furthermore I was under the impression that the purpose of dev diaries is to try and get feedback on things before they’re too far along in development. There’s no point in getting feedback on something that is already finished and being pushed out the door

Given that @Wokeg is specifically replying to a load of suggestions to say “it’s not that” but isn’t doing that for suggestions that this is regency-related (despite that being the most common speculation in the comments), it seems pretty likely it’s about regencies.

At this point - when the thread has convinced itself that it’s regencies - if it wasn’t regencies, they’d likely be trying to damp down that assumption to avoid disappointment later on.

;) These are all new interactions - varying from "that's a simple request" to mini-features, plus the one small scheme. I am very much looking forward to speaking about them in more detail at some point (hopefully) soon.
New interactions means that some of the previous guesses are obsolete.

Hoping that the prisoner one is "Ransom captive" or similar, letting you pay ransom for characters who aren't part of your court but who may still be of interest to you (e.g., your daughter who you married off to some landed noble and was then captured/imprisoned).

^^' They mean I find the forum's emoji variety to be woefully lacking.

Noting that the pictures of the crowned heads are O and D, with the O line being ~1 character shorter than the other, I assume they are "Demand X" and "Offer X."

Possibly hostages?
