Developer Diary | Art & Achievements

Hello and welcome to the Art Dev Diary for Graveyard of Empires!

I’m marblemadness, one of the artists responsible for bringing you the art content that will be present in the expansion and unless specified the “speaker” in this dev diary. There was a lot of positive reception for Götterdämmerung, so following up on that is a challenge. But we’ve greased our elbows and dug deep into the sand to excavate the best art we could find, so I really hope you enjoy what we have to show!

3D Models
Hello everyone! It’s me again bringing you a closer look at the 3D models for this DLC!
To truly appreciate the artistry behind these models, I have gathered some definition images for us to examine. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the models at this level of fidelity so let’s not waste any more time!

Let’s start with an up-close and personal look at the soldiers who will be risking their lives this time around!

12_INFANTRY_DISPLAY_2.png

It can be very dangerous to tread these lands on foot. One way to get the upper hand on the battlefield is to get your hands on a tank. Here are some tanks that will be available for each nation:

13_TANK_DISPLAY_1.png

14_TANK_DISPLAY_2.png

The big tank to the right is apparently called the flying elephant, but I don’t think it will be flying anytime soon.

You won’t be able to survive by only dominating the battlefields with your tanks and soldiers. They will be easy pickings unless you have some competent airplanes to achieve air supremacy
as well!

15_PLANE_DISPLAY_1.png

Even when there is a fierce battle happening it can be hard to not stop and appreciate the rich history and architecture that can be seen around the globe. In addition to previously added landmarks, you will now be able to see the Hagia Sophia, Sa'dabad Complex and Taj Mahal as well!

Before we finish off with a look at the achievements, I would like to address the elephant in the room by addressing.. Well.. the elephant in the room! Horses and camels are great, but there is no greater ally than this gentle giant:

Could someone explain please what is that strange black thing on "It's just good business" achievement?
How to interpret this thing?
View attachment 1260913
It's a reference to the character Lord Cutler Beckett from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. He is the chairman of the "East India Trading Company", and one of his catchphrases is "It's just good business." The black thing is him wearing his tricorn hat.

I know the movie but why is his face the same color with the tricorne? Looks absolutely indistinguishable and messy. At first I thought it is some strange-looking anсhor.

Are you f—kng kidding me, they edited the steam page to remove that:

Remember, there will be no delay for the DLC, it will come out on time !
Nobody said anything about planned content being cut tho.

Oh god, content cuts mean that they've completely run out of testing time to remove, doesn't it... This is going to be an absolute firework.
Anyway, cheers for those who preordered the thing !

I don't mind cutting anounced content, if they announce it and they give a good reasoning. Doing it the sneaky way doesn't sit right.
Especially since some people pre-ordered a DLC promising these features, and won't get what they already paid for

Teasers are not contractual. You'd need something absolutely outrageous to be able to press a scam claim. No, they're completely in the legal clear there. Morally, of course, this is debatable - but legally, preordering is basically throwing your money at the wind and waiting to see what comes back in your face. In general, I'll always advise against it - the consumer doesn't actually get anything out of it (why do you think preorders are saddled with cheap "bonuses" to make them look more attractive ?).

Legality isn't the only issue here, it's a shitty move that can only damage player trust

I know how pre-orders work and why they work, but quietly removing advertised content shows a complete disregard for your playerbase

In the Iran stream they directly said that it's a secret path, so it makes sense to not advertise it as a main path.
do you have the timestamp for that cause I didn't hear it.

Someone asks about it in the chat and they respond that they don't want to talk about it because it's one of the secret paths, so yes, there is a islamic revolution path hidden somewhere.
If that is the legit reason why they cut it from the description that would be so....not smart.

IMO if it was meant as a secret path from the start it shouldn't have been added to the steam page to begin with.
yes and then not removed, that had really bad optics.

Aye, it would have only taken a single post saying something like this:

"We are removing mentions of the Islamic Revolution path in the steam page due to it being a secret path, not a main one, sorry for the inconvenience"

The path still exists, costumers are given a reasonable explanation for the change and no one gets upset.
