Developer Diary | Hungary

Jó napot kívánok!

Jonathan here to bring you another Dev Diary for the upcoming DLC Götterdämmerung! I will be (re)introducing you all to Hungary. Originally we had planned to do a minor update to accommodate the Austria rework, but quite early on in the project we decided to give it a proper overhaul as we were going to rework it anyhow and felt it could do with one. Well, since it’s been a long time since the last Hungarian dev diary (7 years to be more precise), let’s start off with a bit of historical context!

Oh, and as usual, please do keep in mind that everything you’re about to see is still WIP so things might change before release and you may see some placeholder art and WIP values. The team thanks you for your understanding!

A zoomed out overview of the Hungarian Focus Tree’s general layout

From Austria-Hungary to World War 2
So to keep it very brief and as simple as possible; at the end of the Great War, Hungary, alongside other states such as Czechoslovakia and the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, broke off from Austria-Hungary in an attempt to avoid partition and blame for the war. History would not however be lenient on the Hungarian state, and through many twists and turns, the Treaty of Trianon was signed, leaving them with 92,962 of the 325,408 square km that had constituted the Hungarian crown, as well as with a practically completely dismantled military, and large reparations to be paid. The first Hungarian Republic had been declared, but was soon toppled and reorganized into the Hungarian Soviet Republic. In an attempt to reclaim lost territory the soviet republic entered wars against Cechoslovakia, Romania, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes and the Hutsul Republic. All of this resulted in the destruction of the Soviet regime and a counterrevolution which in turn led to the reestablishment of the Kingdom of Hungary, where admiral Miklós Horthy would take up the role of regent, a role which he held until the Kingdom was disestablished at the end of the second World War.

I know that you all didn’t come for a history lesson, so let’s move on to Hungary’s starting situation in the game.

Screenshot_3.png

The National Spirits at startup for Hungary

Hungary now starts with four national spirits instead of the old usual one. As can be seen above however, this isn’t a purely negative thing for them, though the Treaty of Trianon has been made harsher to be more accurate to the historical stipulations. Apart from that one, Hungary starts with an economic dependency on Germany, as well as with two different types of active paramilitary organizations in favor of the government.

Apart from this, admiral and regent Horthy also shares a part of his power with Prime Minister Gyula Gömbös, who signed the previously shown treaty with Germany, and who seeks greater influence over Hungary's politics.

Screenshot_4.png

Miklós Horthy and Gyula Gömbös

And with this background and knowledge of the starting situation, we can finally jump into the focus tree, starting with the industrial and military branches!

Common Branches
Screenshot_5.png

An overview of the common branches, with the industrial tree on the left, and the military branches on the right.

As can be seen above, with the rework of the focus tree, I tried to keep it in similar shapes and general positions as the old one, so that the memory and muscle-memory of our old players won’t fail them when starting a new game as Hungary.

The Industrial branch on the left eventually leads into the military branches in the centre and right, and contains most of the expected factories and research slots, whilst the air force, land forces and naval trees contain bonuses and effects that pertain to their respective branches of the armed forces.

Screenshot_6.png

These focuses which previously started the political branches, now start the industrial branch.

The main goal of the industrial branch is to get the Győr program up and running, in order to resuscitate national industries and expand Hungary military capabilities, a program historically launched by Prime Minister Kálmán Darányi.

Screenshot_7.png

A few of the effects and items relating to the Győr program.

The start of the military branch revolves around getting rid of the Trianon restrictions, just as it did before. With the right-most side of the land branch being available immediately, the more technology and industry focused parts on the left of it, as well as the air force branch, require the Győr program to have been started before becoming available.

Screenshot_8.png

The Air and Army branches.

That should be a good overview of the common branches, so let's move over to the real highlights: the political branches!

Historical Branch

Screenshot_9.png

The focuses available to Historical Hungary

The general shape and feeling of the old Hungarian focus tree has been preserved, while being expanded upon. The main difference to the old Hungarian tree however is that historical Hungary, though joining the Axis, now stays as non-aligned under Horthy. The reason for this is that when seeking to gain peace with the Allies and the Comintern and betray Germany, Hungary was invaded and Horthy was replaced by German puppets (with a bit of a back-and forth), the leader and party of whom is now the fascist party for Hungary, with its own branch if they are what you want to play.

The tree starts with reinforcing the regency and the admiral's grip on the nation, while repairing it and repressing opposition groups. The latter half focuses on alliances (to the left) and expansion (to the right).

Screenshot_10.png

Some of the focuses and their effects

The ultimate goal of post-trianon Hungary is almost always to restore Greater Hungary in some shape or form, as will be seen in other branches as well.

Screenshot_11.png

Greater Hungary, restored.

Screenshot_12.png

And as historically, Gyula Gömbös will eventually die, leading to you having to decide on how to deal with the M.O.V.E, the paramilitary organization loyal to him.

But now, on to some alternative history, starting with the actual fascist branch.

Fascist Branch
The fascist branch begins with the same focus as the historical focus, deciding to continue the regency. After that though, things will start to change for Hungary.

Screenshot_13.png

The Hungarian fascist political branch.

Here you will start the game by having Gyula Gömbös attempt to overthrow Horthy and take the mantle of regent for himself. To do this he will strengthen the fascists, which in turn has some unintended consequences…

Screenshot_14.png

The Lead Up events to becoming fascist.

Screenshot_15.png

Gyula Gömbös and Ferenc Szálasi as country leaders.

Though I will not take too much of your time for this branch, here you can see some of the focuses available to the fascists in a bit more detail.

Screenshot_16.png

Some both early and later game focuses.

Screenshot_17.png

You can also embrace the Turanist ideas of Hungarian origin.

But that’s that. Now I think it’s time to show a lot of players’ most anticipated parts of the tree, the monarchist branches (Yes it is indeed in plural).

Monarchist Branches
The monarchist branches start differently from the historical or fascist branches. There are a total of 5 different monarchist branches available to Hungary, that share certain parts with each other or with the historical/fascist branches. They revolve around Horthy deciding to actually name someone king, either choosing to comply with the stipulations laid out by the little entente and thus selecting a non-Habsburg monarch, or going against their will and doing just that, leading to some elevated tensions with your neighbours.

Screenshot_18.png

The monarchist branches in all their glory.

Before we go into detail on any of their specific branches, though there are only five branches, here are a few different country leaders you can get throughout these branches, with a few others left for you to discover, which we won't be showing today.

Monarchs.png

The different monarchs.

So starting on the right in the focus tree, and going to the left, first up we have the fascist king, which works relatively similar to the old version. The reason this is still around is to enable for a only slightly alt-hist Hungary, as well as being able to go a flavor-wise different route while still sticking with the Axis. Friedrich Franz’s two completely unique focuses are these:

Screenshot_20.png

The Fascist Kings focuses.

To the left of him lies the democratic king, which is no longer the only way for Hungary to go democratic, but which has been expanded to have a bit more to do, such as hold referendums to regain territory, reverse the Hungarian brain drain and get a head start on some nuclear projects, or even propose a union between themselves and Romania, forming Hungary-Romania. (And perhaps Carl V Wilhelm might want to return to claim the Swedish crown as well)

Screenshot_21.png

Some of the Democratic King’s focuses.

If none of these are to your liking however, but you still don’t want a Habsburg on your throne, perhaps Horthy has just the thing you are looking for. As seen previously, he or his more popular son can now be crowned king, and they have a chonky branch of their own.

Screenshot_22.png

Horthyist monarchist focuses.

Taking this or the democratic king path, the fascists will begin preparing to oust you, as they won’t endorse a new dynasty nor some liberal Swede. This takes the form of a short decision system, in which you can attempt to stamp it out before it has the chance to escalate to a civil war.

Screenshot_23.png

The Arrow Cross’ coup attempt.

But with those brief appetizers out of the way, it is time to move on to the main course, namely the Habsburgs, of which we will start with the last Habsburg ruler in Hungary, namely Palatine Joseph August.

Screenshot_24.png
Joseph August’s focuses.

His goal is to recreate Greater Hungary, unlike Otto who will attempt to restore Austria-Hungary.

Screenshot_25.png

Some highlighted focuses from the branch, including Hungary’s own “fifth empire” focus.

And now on to the last (but most certainly not least) of the monarchist branches, Otto’s Austria-Hungary tree!

Screenshot_26.png

The new Austria-Hungary branch.

Oh, and do not fret, for I have not forgotten Nattmaran promising that I would show you what we refer to as the Austro-Hungarian joint focus tree, something accessible by not only Austria and Hungary when going down their relevant branches, but also by any of their puppets who were a part of the former Austro-Hungarian empire, such as Czechoslovakia, Croatia or Lombardy-Venetia, to name a few. This branch allows you and your “newfound friends” to jointly build up and increase the combined strength of the new Austro-Hungarian empire (or Danubian Federation if that is more your style).

Screenshot_27.png

The Austro-Hungarian JFT.

Otto’s new tree starts off with restoring the personal union between Austria and Hungary, now with Hungary as the “main part” of the union. While the tree however plays using the new puppet type of “Austro-Hungarian vassal state”, which was introduced in the Austrian dev diary, there are two avenues to annexing your puppets and gaining the old Austria-Hungary cosmetic tags, this being through the focus “A Thousand Year Federation” at the end of the joint focus tree and “Renovatio Imperii” at the end of Otto’s tree.

The foreign policy of Austria-Hungary can be very flexible, as it has the option to either formalize an alliance with a monarchist Germany if there is one, sign an agreement to join the Allies by calling back to the Grand Alliance, or to only trust family, and found the Habsburg Alliance. If you are rejected from joining another’s faction, the Habsburg Alliance focus will be automatically completed.

An image can say more than a thousand words (well I guess in this case because the images themselves contain words..), so I will now highlight some focuses and other interesting things in the Austro-Hungarian branch.

Screenshot_28.png

Some of Otto’s focuses.

And though many Habsburgs were mentioned in the Austrian dev diary, there are always more. Among those are Carl Pius of Spain, Vasyl Vyshyvanyi, Joseph Ferdinand of Tuscany, and Maria de Iturbide of Mexico. There are also other figures that can appear as you play, such as Ferdinand Pius of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Wilhelm of Wied, and George Bagration “to name a few”.

Enough about monarchism and traditionalism though, how about some republicanism?

Republican Branches

Screenshot_29.png

The Republican branches in the focus tree.

The republican branches all start with preparing for the only required civil war in order to go down a certain political path in Hungary, where they will eventually oust Horthy from power and dismantle the regency. When the civil war is over, it will be time to choose who will lead, all of which will take you down different paths in the tree.

Screenshot_30.png

The possible republican country leaders, main three at the top.

Starting left to right of the branches we have Mihály Károlyi and the Second Republic branch, a democratic branch in which you will also have the option to elect any of the bottom two characters above to become your president. In this branch, the two main choices are between taking the diplomatic approach and attempting to formalize a Danubian Alliance, also unlocking the Austro-Hungarian joint focus tree, or to go for achieving Hungary's ultimate goal of reclaiming the lost lands, doing all in your power to restore Greater Hungary.

Screenshot_31.png

Some democratic focuses.

Now to the communist branches. The first one is Mátyás Rákosi and his Comintern-friendly branch, which centers around utilizing connections with the Soviet Union to build up the industry and military, eventually becoming their bulwark towards the west, acting as a strong minor power in the Comintern.

Screenshot_32.png

Some of Rákosi’s focuses.

And last but not least we have Béla Kun and his, well, Comintern unfriendly branch. As someone who was on good terms with Lenin, but who was nearly executed by Stalin, Béla Kun will attempt to establish his workers paradise in Hungary, no matter the costs. His ultimate goal, like that of many Hugnarians during this time, is to restore Hungarian borders, just like the reds tried to during the civil war. The end goal however in the branch, once you have achieved your peak form, is to take down Stalin’s empire of evil and bring an end to his Marxist-Leninist charade.

Screenshot_33.png

Some of Kun’s focuses.

And before we end this, here is a quick peek at some advisors and such available to Hungary.

Screenshot_34.png

Political Advisors.

Screenshot_35.png

Generals at the start of the game.

Conclusion

And that’s all for today folks. I hope this brief introduction has wetted your appetites and has enticed you to load up a game of Hungary once the DLC drops. Up next is the big one that you have all been waiting for, Historical Germany brought to you by ManoDeZombi and Paradox_Danne.

Oh, and speaking of dev diaries, as a fun throwback I must say, we sure have come a long way since Death or Dishonor

Viszontlátásra!

First of all thank you for making this update for Hungary!

There are some names that as a native Hungarian give me quite a headache among the focuses and the decisions:
(I will provide the corrected text as well as an English variation for better understanding or for an alternative name and provide some context for them)

"Expand the Honvéd" -> "Expand the Honvédség" or "Expand the Hungarian Defence Forces"
Elaboration: Honvéd refers to an individual soldier of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

"Székel Command" -> "Székely Command" or "Szekler Command"
Elaboration: Probably a typo, but if you want to in English the correct way to refer to this specific ethnic group is Szekler or szeklers. There is an ongoing debate on wheter they are Hungarian, or a different ethnic group who just speak Hungarian, so it's best to not brand them as Hungarians currently.

Győr Program decisions:
(like someone else already said, Győri Program would be the correct way to refer to it)

"Invest in the Diósgyőri Gépgyárs Újgyár Azsia Plant" -> "Invest in the "Ázsia" division of the Diósgyőri Gépgyár" or "Invest in the "Asia" division of the Diósgyőr Machinery Factory"
Elaboration: Újgyár or "New Factory" was the nickname for the Diósgyőri Gépgyár (It translates as "Machine Factory located at Diósgyőr" ) because originally it was the subdivision of the Diósgyőri Vas és Acélgyár (translates as "Iron and Steel Factory at Diósgyőr"), while Ázsia was the codename for it's small arms supply wing.

"Open the Danuvia Magyar Lőszerművek Factory in Veszprém" -> "Open the Veszprém Lőszerművek Factory" or "Open the Hungarian Ammunition Factory in Veszprém"
Elaboration: The Factory never had association with the Danuvia or the Danubia corporations, it ran under the name Veszprém Lőszerművek Rt. (Translates as "Veszprém Ammunition Works Company")

"Resuscitate the Magyar Lloyd Repülőgép és motorgyár Részvény-Társaság" -> "Resuscitate the Magyar Lloyd Repülőgép és Motorgyár" or "Resuscitate the Hungarian Lloyd Aircraft and Motor Factory"
Elaboration: "Részvény-Társaság" (usually abbreviated as "Rt.") is the Hungarian version of co./inc. just in it's full form.

"Invest in Dunai Repülőgépgyár" -> "Invest in the Dunai Repülőgépgyár" or "Invest in the Danubian Aircraft Factory"
Elaboration: Probably a typo that has already been fixed, but also some English translation for it.

"Open the Székesfehérvári-Sóstó Plant" -> "Open the Repülő Kísérleti Műhely" or "Open the Experimental Aviation Workshop"
Elaboration: It's a bit hard to find the actual name of the subdivision of the Experimental Aviation Institute which came up with the RMI-1 X/H and X/G

Some notes on Hungarian grammar:
-i at the end of words is an indicator mean "from that place" or "located at that place". The y is usually used by noble families in family names for the same purpose. Example: Tildy means "Noble from Tild" (present day Telince) or Diósgyőri means "From the location named Diósgyőr" (a city in this case, but Dunai means "located along the danube")

To clarify my intentions: I am a Native Hungarian who is currently finishing his Historian Bachelor's Degree, and I wish this DLC to launch with the least amount of Historical errors due to Language barriers and misunderstandings. I know it can be hard to wrap one's head around the Hungarian language, it's one of the most difficult languages to learn for a reason.

Hope I helped you understand the various names, and by doing so contributed to the popular representation of my field of science.
Best of luck to all of you in the Hearts of Iron team!
Thank you very much! I will be sure to take a look at the things pointed out and see what can be changed. :D

Thanks for the developer diary, it's a special pleasure to see that Hungary has finally been expanded, because the DoD focus tree was a disgrace. But and here's that crazy but! Unfortunately, there is a big mistake in this.
First:

"Mainly because their party-flag was the Árpád stripes with their party emblem attached, and the branch references him quite a bit, so it made thematic sense."

I regret to inform you that this is not true! The Árpád striped flag was used at party events, but only as a historical Hungarian flag. In reality, the party's flag was completely different!
In fact, it was used as a party flag:

View attachment 1202540

source

This was the official state coat of arms after they came to power. They also planned to modify the state flag, where the coat of arms on the tricolor Hungarian flag would have been replaced, but this was never realized.
View attachment 1202541

Coat of arms of Hungary

MIO:

They are attractive, but there are some capital-sized errors here.

HTI Turán:

Well, how can I put it, there was no such thing. HTI proposed modifications based on the testing of the prototypes that actually existed, but mostly on the basis of the testing results, which were carried out by the designers of the factory. In the evening of Turán, the design and development with the proposed modifications was carried out by W.M. works were carried out under the leadership of design chief engineer János Korbuly.

View attachment 1202542
János Korbuly
I'm sorry, but I couldn't find an English source about it!
In 1928, he designed the WMH-2 type three-axle military all-terrain vehicle, and from 1933 he supervised the design of the AC type all-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle, the 10-ton 4-axle fuel transport vehicle and the V4 type tank prototype for British orders. He led the design of mass-produced armored cars and tanks such as the Csaba, Turán and Zrínyi. He worked as the chief engineer of the editing office until 1939.
Later, he was the main designer of the Tas heavy tank!
Ganz Danubius Task Force Ship Builders?????
This is a bit interesting as I never design any aircraft carriers. On the other hand, a battleship (Szent István) was built during the Monarchy, another battleship was designed (Ersatz Monarch, but the blueprints for this class of ship were prepared by several other shipyards, in the end the winning tender was never selected and the warship was never built), they built a light cruiser (Novarra), several destroyers (Tatra class) and a separate division for the production of submarines (UBAG) were formed. The shipyard designed surface ships specifically for Adriatic conditions (high speed and short range characterized these ships the most).
Óbudai Hajógyár:
Well, it designed and built river warships (guard boats, monitors) on the Danube, as well as built special transport ships that could be used for both sea and river transport. It had nothing to do with larger ships such as battleships and cruisers.........
Crossley Motors:
I think this is a foreign developer that is available under special circumstances. On the other hand, there was a Hungarian development company of a similar category, namely WM.
Scientist:
Nicholas Strussler:
There is a small problem with him, because he already lived and worked in England in the 30s, and only had business and consulting relations with Hungarian companies. At WM, only his patents were actually used for the Csaba armored car, V-4 tank, and motor vehicles associated with his name, but János Korbuly carried out the actual design, while Straussler only assisted as a consultant.
As for the focuses, the industrial part is not bad, but the expansion of the aluminum industry is a bit lacking. After the war, by 1950, Hungary had become one of the largest suppliers of aluminum in the Eastern Bloc. The only thing they did was restore the plants and mines damaged during the war, and finish the half-finished plants.
View attachment 1202557

There is a little problem with the decisions here.

Invest in the Diósgyőri Gépgyárs Újgyár Ázsia Plant
The name of the factory, Diósgyőri Gépgyár!
Újgyár and Asia plant mean the same thing. The new factory was also called Újgyár and its cover name was Asia.
Thus, the title of the decision would actually be:: "Invest in The Diósgyőri Gépgyár Ázsia Plant"
Rubber production was outstanding in Hungary, which was declared as a war plant within the framework of the Győr Program, and they continuously expanded their production capacity. The production was continuous until the end of the war, it fully served the domestic market and was also delivered in large quantities to other countries. And from 1941, they completely switched to synthetic rubber production, as it became impossible to import their rubber. The name of the most important factory is RUANTA (Magyar Ruggyantaárúgyár)!
This is missing from the decisions that would expand rubber production in some form.
Military Branch:
Hmm intersting....
I am glad that the Árpád line fortress system has finally been included, but there are still some interesting things here that should be changed.

View attachment 1202561

Is this a joke that Assault Gun focus is mutually exclusive with Toldi? The Told light tank was a program, while the Zrínyi medium was built on the Turán medium tank chassis. Shouldn't this be replaced by Tas, which was the heavy tank program? It is quite interesting that you have to choose between the light tank program or the assault gun. While the heavy tank program is nowhere to be found.

Legacy of the black Legion:
My God, the Black Legion was a Croatian militia that had nothing to do with Hungary. On the other hand, the focus icon shows the flag of the Black Army, which was the army of King Matthias in medieval Hungary. The Black Army and the Black Legion are very different.....
It was really necessary to revive a medieval idea in a World War II game, despite the fact that there were contemporary modernization programs and elite units???

Political branch:
The real problems are more to be found here. First of all, I would like to ask why Hungary needs to be Germanized? Especially since the Hungarians really didn't want anything like that. The Volksbund, which was the association of Hungarian Germans, can be found in all political branches. It was established in 1938 by Imrédy and was in reality an insignificant small movement, since there were not as many German nationals living in Hungary as, for example, in Czechoslovakia (the Sudetenland region).
All this at such a level that the most important thing in the republic branch is the destruction of an organization that did not exist in 1936. Despite the fact that there were much more significant extremist movements, such as MOVE, Turul movement! But, of course, the Volksbund is one of the prominent moments in other branches as well.
Before 1938, it played an exclusively cultural role among the Germans (Volksbildungsverein : Német Népművelési Egyesület)!, nothing else. Its most important task is to help the recruitment of the Waffen SS. Apart from that, he did not have a significant role!
Volksbund
View attachment 1202562

How long has János Zichy been a democratic leader in the republic branch? Especially in the way that you act as a legitimist politician? That is, he supported the Habsburgs' claim to the throne! So he was not a Republican politician!
Zichy János

You can't find out much about it in English, but it wouldn't hurt to look at the Hungarian part, because it's a capital mistake to have it here!
Another huge mistake is this constant civil war compulsion on the part of the developers! Hungary at the time had an electoral system, and if, for example, the Social Democrats or the Independent Small Farmers (Fkgp) party had won, they would have been able to govern the elections without any problems. So I ask why does Szakasits have to come to power with a civil war? I still understand the socialists, but for the democrats it is a bit too much.

The other big democratic party(FKGP), whose program could easily be linked to the democratic royal part, is nowhere to be found. Instead, there is a nonsensical, scumbag. There is a proposal on the forum about Hungary, a few details about it were written there, but it seems that it was completely unnecessary to write that proposal.

There are other serious problems here in this part, such as tribal relations. I just laughed at that. Isn't it by chance that people's kinship relations (see Turanism) should have been written instead of this nonsense?

There would be a lot of things that are not good in this branch, but let's leave it as bad as it is.

The next miracle should be the fascist part.

Well, the Turáni Vádászok are also available with on the fascist side. That's quite interesting. It is true that it was founded by Gömbös, it is also true that its members were extremists and anti-Semites. BUT I just want to point out that for the duration of the game, roughly by the time the player could develop, his face had completely changed. By then, it had long since transformed into an anti-German and anti-fascist group, who even fought with members of the Arrow Cross party when Szálasi came to power. While they specifically supported Horthy!
Then there is that wonderful Great Hungary focus icon. Huh, what can I say, it is not Great Hungary, because Bosnia is not part of it. The vision of the Szálasi Hungária United Lands.
View attachment 1202576
There are still many, many mistakes here with the political branches, which could be listed for a long time. But I'll keep it short, because it's getting late and I don't feel like writing so much! Each branch lacks a lot of things without which no political party entered the parliament at that time, and even those who could not run, for example communists, had it in their program! We should think about such things as land reform, in the framework of which the poorer peasant classes would have received land, education reform (this is mentioned in some places), social reforms (I would like to note that during the Horthy era, the social expenditures in the budget increased dramatically year by year), all political movements raised attention reverse that.

Overall, it has good things and a lot of bad things. In addition, there are more of the bad things. So my opinion is quite mixed about this, but I would rather say that this part of the dlc is not worth the price at all!
Sorry!
Great write up. Was thinking the same thing. I was really bugged on how anemic the Hungarian military tree was given how they domestically produced their own tanks along with their industrial path just not really representing mid-war Hungary especially in regards to oil as you said. Also found they it is strange that all Hungary's have to work towards autarky and it would have been nice to have a smaller democratic or allied branch though given Hungary's awkward position geographically it was sort of surrounded by unfriendly neighbors...

If you're adding hussars to Hungary then pls at least add a sabre charge animation to polish cavalry too (a seperate unit model with that animation perhaps, doesn't even have to look different) o_O

Why is Bela kun depicted as being a partisan of a greater Hungary? In OTL, his governments creation of a Slovak council Republic rather than annexing if into Hungary made him draw the ire of many nationalists. Why would he ever create a greater Hungary? Would it not be more historically accurate for him to support a ussr-like institution in the region instead, rather than a nationalist goal?

Béla Kun actually wanted to achieve what you described. That is, a coalition of independent socialist countries based on nationalities in the region! More specifically, the alliance and coalition of independent Slovak, Croatian, Romanian, Ruthenian, etc. socialist countries.
The revision was actually Imre Nagy's idea. It should be known about Imre Nagy that he was the last one to deal with the idea of revision in communist circles, until his death.
In addition, this is why this whole branch as it is, is outrageous! Because the developers mixed up persons, parties, ideas that should not have been included. The mass murderer Béla Kun (who carried out a nice little genocide on the orders of Stalin in the Crimea and Ukraine and executed in 1938 as part of the great purge ) was mixed up with the ideas of Imre Nagy, who represented a more humane direction and revision within the socialist circles!
Rákosi, who was a hard-handed dictator (his program was a country of iron and steel), was lumped together with Kádár, who represented a soft dictatorship and placed great emphasis on the welfare of the people (goulash communism).
And in the democratic part of the republic party, Árpád Szakasits of the republic party was lumped together with the other royalist and free king-electing parties. In Hungary at that time, only Szakasits (and the social democrats) thought of a republic, while in the case of all other parties, they either wanted a royalist (Habsburg party) ruler, or free king voters (those who wanted to break with the rule of the Habsburg dynasty and wanted to elect another king). The Social Democrats do not have one of their most important programs.improving health care.......etc., women's rights, whose representative was Anna Kéthly, . There is no land reform, not in any branch, the communists lack collectivization, i.e. the creation of Soviet-style cooperatives (KOLHOZ).
But even the initial focus is completely meaningless, since the White Terror ended in 1921, it was replaced by political discrimination, in the framework of which certain extreme parties (communists) were completely banned, and after court trials, communists only received prison sentences for continuing communist activities (Rákosi, Imre Nagy). In addition, fascist activities were also restricted, and even Szálasi was imprisoned as part of this!

White Terror

Anna Kéthly

cultura-kethly-anna.jpg

Together with Endre Bajcsy-Zsilinszky, he raised his voice against the 1942 Novi Sad massacre and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice. He then received several death threats. When his friends advised her not to hurt herself in these matters, she made her famous statement, “Whoever is afraid, go to the confectioner!”. For his courage, his party partner, Vilmos Böhm, called him Jeanne d’Arc of Hungarian politics.

From 1922 to 1945, it was largely the subject of social injustices, the alleviation of poverty. He spoke in order to improve health care and, of course, to protect women. He often argued for extending schooling, raising compulsory schooling to 14 years of age. This actually meant making the folk high school into 8 classes, since then 4 classes had to be completed. He also often took a position in favor of expanding health care.

Greater Hungary is also wrongly indicated everywhere. Hungarians see the old historical borders as the Greater Hungary. Not what the developers include with every focus icon.

Even the main railway lines around 1918 can be seen on it......

While what the developers show everywhere is the Szálasi vision of the United Lands of Hungária (Hungária Egyesült Földek)

Will you please also add new states in Croatia for accurate Greater Hungary borders?

I don't think that's necessary: From the perspective of realism, why would Hungary once they defeated Yugoslavia, only annex the parts of Croatia that were a part of it during the Habsburg rule, and not all of Croatia and Bosnia, as these territories were a part of Hungary in medieval times.

Hungarians view the version of the map i posted as Greater Hungary, we dont claim things we had back in medieval times. It just looks wrong to annex the entire croatian coast and bosnia.

Question,

How will this DLC affect the Death or Dishonor version of the Hungarian tree?

Are things going to shift in the old DLC tree if you don't have this one? Will some things be gone from this one if you don't have death or dishonor?

While I know Germany is just Hist atm, similar question for waking the tiger and base game versions of the tree.

Death or dishonor has bern fully integrated i to the base game, so if you have the base game ypu have the DoD stuff (focus trees and all of that) otherwise you are gonna have the things in this DLC.

I sincerely hope that the paths that are exist in Death or Dishonor would be upgraded for free, while paths that aren't exist in DoD would be only available if you buy Gotterdammerung.

So my expectation so far is:
Upgraded DoD contents (free): Otto von Habsburg, Friedrich Franz, Carl V, "Reinforce Horthy's Reign", Szalasi and Szakasits available only as starting game leaders and didn't have their paths, all communist paths
Gotterdammerung-only (paid): Joseph August von Habsburg, King Horthy, "Undermine the Admiral" and Szalasi's path, "Establish the Second Republic" and Szakasits' path, and the Austro-Hungarian JFT
That way, the existing contents would still have nice contents for the longtime players, while the "meaty" stuffs would still GDMR-locked.

Welcome back! I noticed a small mistake. Even though I didn't get a reply to my previous comments, I hope someone at paradox is listening.
You have identified the fascist party as MNSP. However, the abbreviation for the Arrow Cross Party - Hungarist Movement is NYKP or NYKP-HM.

I just talked to a Hungarian friend about it and he mentioned that theoretically, Horthy can't become a King, since he was a Protestant and the Hungarian Crown was for Catholic rulers only.
And since Horthy was known to be a defender of old Franz Joseph, he would surely also respect that matter. Is there something how he pulls it off? Does he convert, for the sake of the crown? Or would he go against his nature and change the ancient laws of the Hungarian Crown?

Horthy had dynastic aspirations.
Horthy made his son deputy regent.
The person of the king was not settled for domestic and foreign political reasons. It would have generated conflicts.
While Horthy as regent was acceptable to everyone at home and abroad, except the communists.

Will it be possible to create a trial monarchy, like Austria-Hungary-Croatia? I ask, because of the last Focus of the Joint Focus tree for the Danubian Nations. The Icon looks like the Austian, Hungarian and Croatian Flaggs Together. And Can you show us the effects of the Focus please?

You guys should consider adding Karl Pius as an Interdictory action by either Spain or Italy when either Hungary goes Habsburg monarchist and Spain goes Carlist specifically, or Italy goes down the Papacy path while Hungary goes Habsburg monarchist.
