Development Update | When to expect Dev Diaries

Hello there! Your Community Manager, Katten, here.

Let's get right into it; we haven't talked about our upcoming expansion since all the way back in June. Let's change that and dive right in!

The Hearts of Iron Development team has been hard at work since the end of last year on this upcoming expansion. But I’m here to give you a rundown of what we have planned and when to expect it!

We begin releasing Developer Diaries October 3rd, so mark the date! But don’t worry—we’ll give you plenty of reminders as it approaches. This time around, we’re trying something different. Compared to last year, our upcoming campaign will be shorter, but we've planned it to be highly intense, with something happening almost every single day. We currently plan to have two developer diaries per week, a weekly feature video, a biweekly stream and Q&A, and, of course, plenty of YouTube Shorts and other fun social media content related to the expansion.

Starting October 3rd.jpg

Before I go, I want to thank you for being so patient with us. Tomorrow, we have a surprise for you: we’re releasing the next War Effort update for the game. I want to mention in advance that it’s not a massive update, but patch notes will be available tomorrow.

Until later!
Katten

I'm really excited for this. The Devs do a great job and they're clearly passionate about what they do. I've got near-on 5000 hours, so whatever I've paid for DLC's, it has more than paid for itself.

I really hope the fandom can keep it civilised this time around. The pile on and mass tantrum over ToA last time was just embarrassing.

Must be some big changes that need a lot of balancing because they drive the gameplay forward. Taking into account the teasers with nuclear weapons plus the fact that some DLCs were integrated into the base game, perhaps we will see a big overhaul for Germany, USA, and the UK. This will see a rebirth to the amount of people playing HoI4 as gameplay movement is dependent on what these countries do. It won't be Germany alone and you can't really overhaul the USA alone either unless its complemented with Japan/Germany. Same for the UK unless its a pure British Empire overhaul (but we already saw that Germany will be a protagonist in this DLC).

Secondary updates could probably be for Canada, South Africa, and France. They might throw in Ireland as a freebie here so that the pending continental countries without trees would just amount to Belgium, Austria, and Albania for when they redo the Balkans. If no Belgium then it would be attached to a Netherlands rework for when they decide to add a content pack to SEA (DEI, Malaya, Philippines (bonus), Siam, and hopefully Indochina becomes a French puppet country)

I am not against mini teasers for whats coming next, so maybe? :)
What continent/region can we expect in the next DLC???
Will the next DLC add large and interesting mechanics or expand on those already in the game???

Compared to Stellaris HOI4 looks like complete abandonware
1 dlc/year for their most popular game - lol, those genius pdx managers...
Or you can do it like Stellaris, and put every tiny change into an overpriced DLC, like the next Storm DLC and many previous DLCs.
Sure, I would also like to have content for HOI more often than once a year.

Well. At least we have a date: October 3rd.
Despite the time and this is not the DLC announcement I'm confortable with ending the uncertainty.
Hope this launch will be something big and really better than the disastrous and disrespectful Trial of Allegience.

Thanks for sharing the upcoming timeline- much appreciated!

I wonder how long they will keep us in the dark about the general type of content that will be featured in the next DLC? Based on those videos from several months back it looks like a Germany touch-up is likely part of it, but there's bound to more nations than just Germany involved.

I'm hoping that Southeast Asia and the Pacific gets some love soon, even if not in this immediate DLC. I've tried to play Australia, India, Dutch East Indies, and Siam many times, but those circa-2017 focus trees are so limited. Once you get used to the giant trees of Ethiopia/Finland/Brazil/etc. it's hard to go back!

Trial of Allegiance was the only DLC I did not buy. I thought HOI 4 had jumped the shark so I have not played since its release. I have been playing HOI 3 and DH, which are great. But man, if this DLC has some cool stuff..., I will jump right back in to my HOI 4 addiction. Please be a good one and not a country focus pack or leader pack..,etc. Yahooooo!!!

There ya go guys. Definitive proof ToA did NOT take the place of a proper expansion. It was just something to tide us over while the team works on a full DLC, hense why it was almost exclusively flavor.

If there's gonna be any streams, guys, please stream nations people want to actually see. Those dev streams around when BBA was releasing playing the Sultanate of Aussa was silly, I'd prefer to see the devs playing as one of the ****important**** countries in the DLC, so Italy Ethiopia or Switzerland, or just as a normal country fighting WW2 so viewers can ask relevant questions to things that happen in the game; like why Finland cedes Petsamo to the Soviets after the Winter war when IRL they didn't cede it until the 2nd peace in 1944.

Is this "Blitzkrieg"-Release really the way to go? While fully recognizing that HoI4 is one of the best computer games on the market, it has its issues - and at least some of these issues could have been fixed with more testing and more feedback.

Based on that, I would go the other direction: Make semi-closed Betas and use the feedback as early as possible. Make open-betas and use the feedback as early as possible. And with "beta" I do not mean a commercial teaser-beta for 2 weeks, but something that is long enough to find issues, to report issues and to fix issues. Test, communicate, fix, test, communicate, fix. Yes, there is a lot of bu**sh** in the forum, but between the bu**sh** there are really valuable contributions which could make the game a lot better.
