Hello everyone. Today we’ll continue talking about subject interactions for Common Sense.

First of all. You can now always change the name and adjective of your colonial nation with a modify action on the subject screen.

Placate Local Ruler & Embargo Rivals, which we talked about last week, can of course also be done on protectorates and colonial nations.

Send Officers
This is a toggle that can be turned on/off on protectorates. When on, the overlord will pay an additional 33% of that nations land maintenance costs. However, their Liberty Desire is reduced by 10% as long as its on, and they get +20% Land Morale and +5% Discipline.

Divert Trade
This is another toggle on protectorates. While its on, you get 100% of their tradepower, but their Liberty Desire is increased by 30%.

Seize Territory
As you can’t integrate protectorates, but sometimes need some territory from them, you can now seize provinces from them. However, you need to have positive relation with them, and their liberty desire need to be below 50. The province you take have to be within coring range, and taking it will have severe impact on their desire to stay a protectorate.

Tariffs
Increase and Decrease Tariffs for Colonial Nations have been moved into this screen. Of course that is still accessible if you dont buy Common Sense.

Replace Governor
If a colonial nation is below 50% Liberty Desire, you can attempt to replace the governor up to once a year, but it will increase Liberty Desire slightly.

Start Colonial War
Now, you can always demand that your colonial nation (if at peace, and not having a truce), start a colonial war against someone they have a casus belli upon. Colonial Nations now also get casus bellis on all adjacent primitives.

Promote Investments
Trade companies have a toggle now, where you can increase the tradepower by 50%, for a small ticking increase of inflation.

Next week we’ll talk about new nations, new ideas and gameplay balance tweaks.

Here's a bonus screenshot of some possible Parliament issues for Great Britain..

What are the crowns next to the fort icons in the first screen shot?

They show provinces that have capital forts but not regular forts (so a fort level but no zone of control).

Another great set of changes, nice one :). Looking forward to a deeper and more interesting colonial game, great work Team EU4 :). Like Castrolol also mentioned, some of those Parliament-related bonuses look pretty decent - is there a downside to those Parliamentary laws, or is it always a plus and the challenge is in getting the law passed in the first place and the malus comes from not getting the law passed? Either way, looking forward to my next England/GB game :).

Once I named my colonial nation and made a spelling mistake so I attempted to scour the save file to fix the error but gave up (those save files are huge).

So Will we be able to edit the colonial nation's name any time? So if I can name my Mexican colonial nation "New Castile" can I then update it to "New Spain" at a later date?

Great! There have been many times that I missed the chance to name my CNs or came up with a better name afterwards.

I understand that you want the various subject categories to feel different, but I said it in the previous DD and I'll say it again:

Unless vassals get an option to give their trade power to the overlord their purpose will always be to be annexed asap - and that raises many questions about overall strategy (esp in upstream nodes), the balance of vassal feeding and the clunky interaction we get with marches. I really wish we'd get to see an option were our vassals will give up to all their TP to us.

Especially now that you put this great option to bankroll protectorate armies, I'd wish we had it for all our subjects. Small vassals don't have access to the grand trade strategy that their overlords have, and when vassals are all about the more efficient use of map space I just don't get why we still don't have such trade interactions with them, it feels wasteful and restrictive.

And as for the morale/disc boost of the Send Officers option, we often see colonial nations helping their overlords in their European wars and landing troops and sieging stuff there, so that boost may actually be way too strong. Hopefully you've tweaked the CN's to not ferry troops in Europe. Castillian Mexico sieging Sicily while Castille itself cannot is something I don't want to witness again. Edit- I wrongly assumed send officer was for CN's too.

Some great stuff, especially with annexing protectorates provinces.
One thing though, can we enforce our religion on our colonies, like we can vassals, since it is particularly annoying for England and France, especially if they are going for Reformed to get a few CNs and then convert without their CN converting

If I undestood correctly, "send officers" and "divert trade" are just for protectorates.
