Hello everyone. Today we’ll continue talking about subject interactions for Common Sense.

First of all. You can now always change the name and adjective of your colonial nation with a modify action on the subject screen.

Placate Local Ruler & Embargo Rivals, which we talked about last week, can of course also be done on protectorates and colonial nations.

Send Officers
This is a toggle that can be turned on/off on protectorates. When on, the overlord will pay an additional 33% of that nations land maintenance costs. However, their Liberty Desire is reduced by 10% as long as its on, and they get +20% Land Morale and +5% Discipline.

Divert Trade
This is another toggle on protectorates. While its on, you get 100% of their tradepower, but their Liberty Desire is increased by 30%.

Seize Territory
As you can’t integrate protectorates, but sometimes need some territory from them, you can now seize provinces from them. However, you need to have positive relation with them, and their liberty desire need to be below 50. The province you take have to be within coring range, and taking it will have severe impact on their desire to stay a protectorate.

Tariffs
Increase and Decrease Tariffs for Colonial Nations have been moved into this screen. Of course that is still accessible if you dont buy Common Sense.

Replace Governor
If a colonial nation is below 50% Liberty Desire, you can attempt to replace the governor up to once a year, but it will increase Liberty Desire slightly.

Start Colonial War
Now, you can always demand that your colonial nation (if at peace, and not having a truce), start a colonial war against someone they have a casus belli upon. Colonial Nations now also get casus bellis on all adjacent primitives.

Promote Investments
Trade companies have a toggle now, where you can increase the tradepower by 50%, for a small ticking increase of inflation.

Next week we’ll talk about new nations, new ideas and gameplay balance tweaks.

Here's a bonus screenshot of some possible Parliament issues for Great Britain..

I'm happy with those new subjects interaction but I have to admit I'm disappointed that there has not been any expansion on trade company mechanics. What I'd like to see is trade companies at least in India actually being able to become what EIC had in actual history, a company provisioned with charter to raise armies, to mint money, etc., in effect allowing them to act like a state within the British Empire at least until 1857 Sepoy Rebellion.

I just started playing Crusader Kings with Legacy of Rome DLC and I noticed that some duchies in my kingdom raised their own retinues on their lands within my kingdom. Something like that could be modeled in EU4, you still directly own the lands in India but trade company would be allowed to raise their own army from those provinces. You could raise regiments on those provinces yourself but there would be some kind of penalty to discourage that, and the company could raise regiments there faster than you can yourself there. Ideally, though, you should send the royal regiments there to supplement the force there. And the company could pay for their own army through whatever is earned in trade there, with any remainder after expenses going back to your treasury. This the trade company can only do if you grant it a charter to allow them to act like a state, with its own army. I'm sure someone could expand on this or something but this is the idea. I suppose this will only come in another expansion or in EU5. Oh well, one can only dream...

Reactions:
1) Make it a vassal
2) Give it a "Trade Company" government type

It's so simple that it's all the more frustrating that not only Paradox but, apparently, the entire modding community has failed to do that.

One downside is that it will convert religion / culture of their provinces over the time, which is hardly plausible considering large established population all over India. I am not aware of any way to disable that for certain states.

Give those states a triggered modifier giving them -100% missionary chance and +1000% culture conversion cost.

That should be doable - by adding modifiers which make culture conversion and religious conversion harder to the government type itself.
However, I was expecting new mechanics for trade companies, as they really should behave more like colonies(have armies, manage their internal affairs, wage wars).

Not really.
Last time I modded was in 1.9 IIRC and at that time vassal bonuses given to overlord were hardcoded. So you can not get e.g. trade power from vassal or naval FL.
One could add triggered bonuses for overlord with trigger checking if given type of vassal exists, but only one bonus can applied per country. So the only way I was able to do something like that was to write separate triggered modifiers for each possible Company.

With all of the new subject interactions, has an option to annex back your colonial nations ever been considered? For those wishing to have old-style global empires. (Spurring massive revolts or wars of resistance, perhaps, yes. :) )

What are you talking about? Colonial nations were introduced along with first expansion(CoP) while canals along with second one(WoN). Also as others mentioned before me you can do it for subjects.
Have you successfully built the Panama Canal? I took the decision, and spent the ducats, but then nothing happened for 30+ years until the game ended.

I didn't keep track of how long it took in the last time I did it(a few weeks ago) but I got 2 events one costing MP other manpower and then when I thought of it again(because I started building Suez) it was finished.
Wait whats with the base tax i thought they removed that and put province developement instead?
No, base tax is simply actually base tax now though it also helps against spies. Development is base tax + base production + base manpower. More info here.

So are you guys keeping the 2D sprites for forts in the game? Or are some 3D models going to be released? Because the 2D models in political and terrain mode don't seem to fit as well as they could as 3D models.

2d forts were placeholders. They will use 3d like Wiz posted in one thread.

Any TC vassals added by Paradox would have to function like the current Trade Companies in terms of bonuses. Maybe the deal would be that, in exchange for not having cultural or religious unrest, they can't collect Taxes and Manpower and can't assimilate or convert territory. They would have to operate off of Production income, investments from the homeland (like, the more Trade they send home, the more they get in "stock sales"), and Mercenary sepoy regiments.

Allright, we are getting closer and closer to what the cheesy cheaters British unrealistically and gameyly did IRL.
