EU4 - Development Diary - 32nd of March 2019

Hi everyone!

Today we are pleased to announce that we will be bringing out another major updates this year! We realised that reworking Europe and taking a look at major systems like Mercenaries and other long requested changes really wouldn’t take that long. So with all that free time we decided to get creative!

So get ready to put the Universalis back in Europa Universalis, get ready for: The Stellar Update.

Following the great success of Stellaris we have decided to extend the end date of the game until 2500 and incorporate space travel mechanics. Once you reach tech level 50 you will unlock the new Heavy Ship class ‘colony ship’.

This new ship class will allow you to launch your nation beyond Earth and into the stars! Navigate you nation through an extra 700 years of gripping interstellar gameplay with 6 new ages 7 new institutions and more!

We have learnt a lot from the Stellaris team and feel that we are ready to take Europa Universalis to its logical conclusion - our destiny lies among the stars!

Fortunately this update was pretty simple and so only took us a short time to get done. You can expect the release on the 28th of April! We chose this date due to it being the birthday of Sir Terry Pratchett - we have decided to feature the Discworld as the representation of Earth in this update. As all longtime EU4 players know the world is actually both flat and cylindrical but this logical contradiction proved hard to render in 3D space so we are going with a floating disc on the back of a turtle - it was the sensible way out of the issue.

We hope you are as excited for the Stellar Update as we are! As always we welcome your feedback and input on what you would like to see in the update.

Well, I guess that joking about the cancellation of a title that many have already pre-purchased is a slippery slope: people reading the news here and there in the next few days without knowing the contest could rush to ask refunds, then Steam would hang the responsible by his dearest parts in the town square.

I got my refund. Didn't you?

My prayers have been answered!

So, how much do we pay for the update? Is $89.99 enough or am I putting it way too low? Also, the accompanying DLC has to start at $119.99, right?

Even though this is an April fools joke I hereby demand that the Discworld is included into Stellaris! It'd be absolutely perfect!

Oh yes! But they shouldn't stop there! I want to be a nomad species travelling the universe on my spaceborn giga-turtle!

This is great! Hopefully next year around April, we will get a Tartary update. That part of the map greatly needs an update, as since they have updated the rest, I never see "Spanish Siberia" anymore. :) ...........memories
