EU4 - Development Diary - 4th of December 2018

Good day all and welcome to another EUIV Dev diary. We're wrapping up with Golden Century ready for it's launch next week, so there's not much meat to today's diary, but we are going to reveal the 10 new achievements, which will bring the total number to a staggering 295. I've heard that anyone who completes all of them gets their wishes granted, but I cannot comment to its authenticity.

These Achievements will be available for hunters from Golden Century's release on 11th December. While some shouldn't cause sleepless nights for most players, best of luck to those who try their hand at Basque in Glory. Navarra's start is full of danger, but also massive opportunity.

Now, stepping aside from today's topic of Achievements, I'd like to take a moment to address some of the feedback we've been getting during the dev diaries for Golden Century. There have been plenty of concerns raised, indeed very fair ones, regarding Golden Century and the 1.28 Spain Update not matching up with expectations, not having community input taken into account and development generally not being in line with what the community is wanting. There are many other points that have been raised, but I want to draw light to these.

These are very fair points to bring up, and one comment in particular resonated with me, and that is that our plans and what we are developing are often shared so late in development with the community that feedback and suggestions they want to give can't or won't be able to be integrated. This has lead to a lot of people voicing suggestions for features or changes and getting very understandably frustrated when what is delivered does not take it into account.

So after Golden Century launches, we're going to talk a lot more about future plans and what we have in store for EU4 in 2019, sharing our vision of what we want to do with the game and what we want to bring to you, the player. I'll be talking about this at length in the Development Diary following Golden Century, so on the 18th December. Fittingly, it will be the last Dev Diary of 2018, before we take off for Christmas Break. Our ambition is to get our community a lot more linked in with what we are planning, and can give their feedback and suggestions accordingly and within plenty of time to implement. We have also been asked for how exactly we use suggestions from the forums and how to write a good suggestion thread, which is a great idea, and will be part of said 18th Dec Dev diary.

So while the feedback especially last week makes for some humbling reading for us, it's still important, and this is one of the things we're doing about it. There are far more plans in the pipeline, but, well, for that tune in on the 18th.

As for next week, we'll be having an early DD on the 10th, with Patchnotes. See you then!

I'm disappointed that there is no new dedicated achievements for Portugal in an Iberian immersion pack.

Looking forward to the DD after Golden Century.

some are interesting, some are cosmetic but hey at lest it does not feel like they were just created to help the DLC sell. And there is a few actually challenging ones

Indeed, we try to include both interesting achievements that are more accessible, but also have nice, challenging achievements like the Basque one.

But why though? Seems a bit random, I'm not seeing where's the pun, easter egg or historical basis for that.

There are people who claim to work here with this their music to work to.

It is nice to hear that you guys always try to communicate with community.

I think that one of the biggest problem is that other PDX DLCs these days are much better than they used to be, bringing reworks requested by community and shitton of content. Either we will see rework on the scale of Le Guin or Ironclad, or we need EUV. A deep naval and trade rework would be welcome, or more depth regarding to the economy and internal politcs.

I'm looking forward to it.

Most of us are.
And we hope to not get completely ignored another time. Since the promise of “more listening to feedback” is not a new one, and next to nothing has really been done in this regard since then. Golden Century is the latest product of this trend. We hope it’s also the last.

Its great to see that change is coming and things might take a turn to the right direction. Im pleased and full of hope for that.

However this doesnt help Iberia which - after a very long time finally getting supposedly an update was left in a ditch and barely tuched by said update... And I fear it wont be tuched again for a very long time...

Thank you very much for taking into account the assessment of the last DD and the last ones in general.

Dear @DDRJake, my question is: does that mean that the Iberia region will not be retouched? Despite this DLC, is it possible to wait for a change in the next months?

Examples: colonization system, single government, events, succession of Naples (Why is not it done the same as with Navarra and through the event ends the PU with Aragon?), Colonizable Tenerife (it hurts) ...

It is good to change the policy and integrate the community, but please, do not forget that the frustration has been for the Iberia region, we still expect modifications that provide historical reality and a lot of gameplay

Thank you very much!

Personally I rather disliked the lasr few DLC, but bought then anyway because I was the host for a multiplayer group. We also pooled together a bit, so it wasn't that expensive.

But similary I quite disliked quite a few CK2 DLC before RiP came out, and I thought CK2 was a lost cause for me. But hey, they really camw back, so I hope a similar thing happens to EU IV soon. And this announcment seems a big step in the right direction.

“It nice to hear (the promise) that you guys will (finally) try to communicate with the community (since we have been completely ignored in the last months or so).

A internal politics rework is a must do, since EU4 is the only title in which there is nothing to do during peacetime.

So, achievements and we'll have some light shed on the community feedback..... in 2 weeks........
I read the forums quite a bit, and one of the things that people say is lack of meaningful content and DLC's consist of sprites, missions, and buttons that give bonuses. I will see what happens in two weeks, but I'm personally not expecting much.

I don't actually care about you giving us more time for feedback. I mean you still will just ignore it, just like with missionary changes, when you had a month of our complaints and just straight up ignored it without even saying anything to address the issue. Try to better deal with feedback, rather than giving us more time for it.

Hello @DDRJake ,

First, I want to say I and many others really appreciate what you say about a more inclusive and transparent approach to how EU4 is keeps being developed. As forum members, we are some of your greatest fans and want nothing more than the continued success of EU4.

Now, speaking as one of many fans of Iberian history in this forum, I share the opinion that patch 1.28 and Golden Century is not the breath of fresh air in terms of gameplay that we have been expecting for Iberian tags ever since EU4 launched. And as such, this DD is not exactly reassuring that the region will receive meaningful content in the near future...

I expect that your willingness to listen and engage with forum members will encourage many of us to repost and elaborate upon suggestions to enhance gameplay for Iberian countries. Thus, I'd like to ask you whether you plan to revisit Iberia relatively soon, given the vocal support there is for enhanced gameplay in the area.

All the best,
@Moridin997

That is just, pardon me, fake news.
Didn't they adopt one of the most frequent suggestions and give religious ideas the ability to convert in territories? Saying they "straight up ignored complaints" is objectively wrong.
