EU4 - Development Diary - 4th of October 2016

Hello everyone! Today is the final development diary before the release of Rights of Man! Which is next week! Actually, its next tuesday even! At 15.00 CET if all goes well.. 1.18 “Prussia” will go live on the steam-servers and you’ll be able to purchase Rights of Man.

So, to wrap up the teasers for this update, we’ll start with yet ANOTHER addition to a previous expansion. In El Dorado, we added advisor portraits for South Americans. Back in those days, advisors were all males.. Now though, we have added a set of female advisors to the South American graphical culture!

In our effort to make the games more user-friendly, or as some say, super-casual, we have now reduced the amount of clicks you need to continue a savegame. Now there is a nice “Continue” button in the launcher, that launchers your latest played game without stopping for a decision in the frontend.

And for those of you who play Hearts of Iron IV, you’ll be aware about the possibility for the game to automatically upload crashdumps to our servers, whenever you start the game after it had crashed before. Of course, this is all voluntary.

1.18 and Rights of Man adds 20 new achievements as well, for those of you that love hunting them.

  • We bled for this - Win a war with at least 1M dead on both sides.
  • Pick Your Poison - As Kaffa, develop in Cafa while a subject of yours owns it..

We have tweaked quite alot of national ideas in 1.18, adding new modifiers to them, giving a new fresh feeling. This includes movement speed of armies, fire damage, institution spread and more, and as usual, some countries got new unique national ideas, including Malwa, Pattani, Kaffa, Corfu, Lorraine and Wurzburg.

Here is a quick look at the national ideas of Malwa.

The reason we want Odoyev ideas is not that it was important. It's literally one of 3 remaining states in 1444 in the entire world that still hasn't got a set :)
It is not alone in being a small state that only existed for a short amount of time. What is likely going to happen is for a generic Russian Minor set to be created which will cover Odoyev and any other Russian tags possibly added in the future unless they have their own ideas.

That said we're happy for any suggestions of course, and there are plenty of countries that have group ideas that could by now have more interesting individual ones. I was just hinting that any for Odoyev in particular would be pretty welcome as we want no tags with generic ideas in the world at all in the long run :)
If there is only one tag with generic ideas, then wouldn't its idea set be unique?

Why are female advisor icons still silver-bordered and not gold-bordered like the more usual male ones?

No. Generic ideas are the default ideas for tags that don't have any of their own, how many have them doesn't change that initial concept.

Yes in 1444 Garhwal, Tripura and Odoyev still have generic national ideas. I hope to be rid of that as soon as possible :)

Odoyev (or if one wishes the Oka Principalities in general) in particular is one I'd love some suggestions for as well.

Regarding Odoyev and the Oka Principalities:

Following the Mongol invasion of Russia of 1223-1240, the formerly mighty Principality of Chernigov gradually degenerated to a point where the descendants of Mikhail of Chernigov (c. 1185 – 1246) ruled dozens of quasi-sovereign entities. As the principalities were wedged in between the ever expanding Grand Duchy of Lithuania to the west and the nascent Grand Duchy of Muscovy to the north, their rulers were constricted to continually fluctuate between these two major powers as buffer states. By the end of the 14th century, they were obliged to pay annual tribute to Lithuania. The strengthening alliance of Lithuanian rulers with Roman Catholic Poland caused shifts in the balance of power in the region. Most Orthodox rulers of the Upper Principalities, therefore, started to look to Moscow for protection against Lithuanian expansionism. Towards the end of the 15th century, most of these princelings had moved to the Muscovite court. In 1494 Lithuania finally renounced her claims to the region.

Here we can take some ideas.

Traditions: -10% cavalry cost and 0.20 caravan power
1) Mikhail the Martyr: +1 tolerance of true faith
2) Between Two Duchies: +1 diplomat
3) Russian Buffer State: forts +0.10% defensive bonus
4) Tribute Tradition: +0.10% tax income
5) Western Defenses: -0.10% fort maintenance
6) The Court in Moscow: -1% prestige decay
7) Still Standing Strong: -0.10% military technology cost
Ambition: +0.10 cavalry combat ability

Basically Odoyev is a principality between Lithuania and Moscovy. The principality has had Mongol influence and was used to monetary shakedowns which explains their familiarity with cavalry and having more money available. The mongols also established a vast trade network and Odoyev wants to try to imitate this. A difficult spot between two strong regional powers has made them be aware that communication will help them stay alive. Just in case things go wrong, a solid defense is needed. If they manage to survive, their hardship and awareness of difficult situation has made them strong enough to go on the offensive with their cavalry and experiences gained by watching their stronger neighbors.

Ionian Ideas (Corfu) :
Galley Cost = -0.2
Galley Combat Ability = 0.2

Frankokratia
Land Morale = 0.1
Angelokastroi
defensiveness = 0.2
Settling the islands =
global tax modifier = 0.1
Gate to the adriatic =

Govian arsenal = {
naval forcelimit modifier = 0.25
Entrepot of Eastern Med = {
global foreign trade power = 0.1
Ionian Academy
culture conversion cost = -0.15
bonus
merchants = 1
So they're not really ideas for Corfu tag, but for Ionian islands... Good, of what I've learnt from these forums, Corfu shouldn't really be a tag - but since they have achievement now, I guess it makes sense for them to stay. Just change their rulers, please.

You appear to have missed the joke.

Still no ideas for Württemberg... :(
They were the second largest state in southern Germany after Bavaria and survived the game's end date, unlike Würzburg. I hope they're considered for the next patch.

couple of interesting achievements
Indeed.

I personally like how fanatic collectivist is an ethic in Stellaris.

Wurzburg seem to exist to do nothing except join coalitions against you. So I suppose it's only karmic justice that they gobbled up by Bohemia half the time.
I saw Wurzburg become the second-largest tag in the empire recently.

I did some searching, and I was right. The Wurzburg NIs were added in 1.10.

Wiz mentioned them in the 1.10 patch thread, and they're in the 1.10 page on the wiki. This gives me hope that the ideas are actually for WUR instead of WBG.

No way this one's save game compatible due to province institution spread.

Got a week to finish up your games or disable automatic updating!
