Welcome to another development diary about Europa Universalis. Now we are very close to the announcement of the new expansion that we aim to release in June... If Frö smiles upon us....

We have switched around what we will talk about in the development diaries for now, so today we’ll instead talk about Peace!

But first of all, lets talk about a feature that is something that some have requested..

Return Province!
Sometimes you have taken a province that is the core of a rival, or someone who do not want to buy the province, or even talk to you as you are so evil.. Not that we would ever be warmongering-alliance-breaking-world-conquerers..

Now you can just return the province to any state that has it as a core. You will lose some Agressive Expansion and prestige, but it will definitely reduce the chance of them attacking you in the short-term.

Peace Overhaul

This is obviously something that is in the accomanying patch.

First of all, we removed the treaty called annex.

..

.

Well, instead we are now able to target every province an enemy own, so taking all provinces is an annexation.

You will also always be able to demand the capital in a peace treaty, and you also do not need to occupy territory to demand it in peace, however unoccupied territory is more expensive to claim.

Revoking cores will no longer cost diplomatic power.

Diplomatic Power Cost, War Score Costs and Prestige gain for each province now scale with the province’s development, instead of being fixed costs.

Overextension and Agressive Expansion also looks at development instead of base tax.

And finally, you’ll be able to demand gold even while “annexing”.

You're welcome.

Just joining the bandwagon: these changes seem very good and welcome. I trust you'll be able to find the right balance in scaling the costs.

The only comment/worry I'd have is that I don't think it should be realistic to ask for a capital without occupying it - but then, the mere warscore cost would probably make it impossible.

France becomes warleader though as she is the suzerain overlord of her colonies. So one would have to fully occupy the BBB, not some random CN on the other side of the globe.

Oh yes, you're right. I forgot the change of warleader.

But still, think about this. France in HYW. I think correct peace deal for France will be to take Welsh land for example and not touch lands on the continent, because England can't defend them. Then again DOW for Normandy for example and again...

I don't like that if you succeed at defending your provinces but loose the battles, you can still be asked for 60+ WS worth. If a country can't occupy lands, it shouldn't be able to enforce its control over it in peace deal. Not really asking as a way to abuse the AI, as I've been both able to limit land concessions as well as being denied it. I'm also a bit worried about what the AI will ask for in peace deal now it can ask for anything from start, as it's a bit greedy and stubborn already, but I'll have to wait and see how it goes.

In what wars can a nation get 50% warscore from battles and not be able to occupy lands? I think only England and Japan qualify here.

Well I'm pretty sure this is not about how we interact with our vassals as promised but still nice changes. I remember playing cusco pre AOW and not being able to expand north because the some two province guy had his capital in the bottleneck.

Quiet frankly, I like the development changes the most, but I admit this looks also promising.

One question that comes up to me is, if you lose your capital in a war, will the new one still be chosen automatically (by development I would assume) or is it up to us now?

So does the restriction about moving capitals still exist? @Johan

And since the forts are in place already, I have another question. Are all the free level 1 capital forts demolished after the capital is taken? How about higher level forts in the capital? And other buildings?

I was thinking more about England vs Scotland, were France can't land on the isles, warscore ticks to 100% after 5 years and England takes a good chunk out of France. :D

I'm surpised they went with Charles V, I would have expected Oliver Cromwell.

I really, really don't like the change where revoking cores does not cost diplomatic power anymore. It was like this previously, and the AI always chose to do it during peace deals. The result is less opportunity to paint the map in an appropriate way, which is very very bad!

Taking provinces without claims or occupation will probably net you massive AE.

I disagree with you there. Less ability map paint means more realism to me.
