Europa Universalis IV - Development Diary 16th of November 2021

Hello and welcome everyone to another Europa Universalis IV development diary. It is a few days since we released the Origins immersion pack and the accompanying 1.32 update. This was the first fully Tinto designed and developed release, and we feel proud of the result.

We can write a lot about how great it has been doing, but I want to focus on a few things in today's diary.

First of all, a thank you to all of you who are part of the community. It is sometimes hard to read when the work you have done is not good enough, but all the constructive feedback we have gotten this spring and summer have really helped us fix things for the 1.32 patch.

Secondly, I want to highlight how happy I am with seeing how you enjoy our new missions that our new CD team have designed. With a focus on more interesting experiences than just claims and buffs, it seems to be exactly what you, the community, wants. Hopefully we can attempt to revise some older ones in future updates.

Thirdly, and this ties nicely together to the next part of the diary, we have had a focus on fixing old bugs for EU4, and have managed to reduce our bug count in an unprecedented way for a GSG in the last 14 months. We want to continue this, and make sure that when we finally end development on EU4, the game should not have a large horde of bugs still around, like some previous games sadly have.

So, what happens now?

First of all, we aim to release another larger “hotfix” for any issues remaining, this should be out in good time before the Grandest Lan in December.

Secondly, we aim to release a larger patch with more fixes & improvements during late q1 next year.

After that we’ll start working on another immersion pack. This sadly means though, that for the next few months, there will not be a weekly development diary, but only ones when we have something new to say..

cheers!

I believe this would be something great while waiting for the next Immersion Pack. The next Immersion Package, I hope, will focus on the Baltic Sea: Scandinavian countries, Teutonic and Livonian Order, PLC and could also give some love to Silesia.

Prussia and Silesia need more provinces because Prussia has too few provinces, and Silesia resembles a moderately urbanized Poland, not Silesia. More Silesian provinces and division of the Silesia region into at least two regions: Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia. Silesia should gain more TAGs (at least formable) which would be fully in line with history. Silesian mission trees (generic Silesian mission trees and 3 unique mission trees for: united Lower Silesia, Upper Silesia and united Silesia) and events (e.g. the Silesian Wars) that would make this region much more interesting and historical.
It is worth noting that with the update of the Baltic Sea, a new culture could be added: Kashubian (western Slavic), Prūsai (Bałtcyka) and Schlesiener (Germanic). A potentially Germanic cultural group could be divided into three new ones: Lower Germanic, Upper Germanic and Netherlandic.

The free update could cover the Caucasus or Silesia, which require a lot of work.

My proposal of the Silesian provinces.

In place of one Silesian area, three areas would be created:

  • Lower Silesia,
  • Upper Silesia,
  • Breslau (or Middle Silesia)

Province allocation to area:

  • 3, 4, 6, 7 to Lower Silesia area
  • 1, 5, 10, 11, 12 to Upper Silesia area
  • 2, 8, 9, 13 to Breslau area
  • and 14 to Moravia area

Provinces (in 1444 they all have the Catholic religion and the Silesian culture):

Dynamic Silesian provincial names for Silesian TAGs:

  1. Silesian: Racibůrz (Czech: Ratiboř, German: Ratibor, Polish: Racibórz)
  2. Silesian: Brosłōw (Czech: Vratislav, German: Breslau, Polish: Wrocław)
  3. Silesian: Głogůw (Czech: Hlohov, German: Glogau, Polish: Głogów)
  4. Silesian: Ligńica (Czech: Lehnice, German: Liegnitz, Polish: Legnica)
  5. Silesian: Ôpole (Czech: Opolí, German: Oppeln, Polish: Opole)
  6. Silesian: Žahań (Czech: Zaháň, German: Sagan, Polish: Żagań)
  7. Silesian: Jawor (Czech: Javor, German: Jauer, Polish: Jawor)
  8. Silesian: Świdńica (Czech: Svídnice, German: Schweidnitz, Polish: Świdnica)
  9. Silesian: Brzyg (Czech: Břeh, German: Brieg, Polish: Brzeg)
  10. Silesian: Bytůń Beuthn (Czech: Bitom, German: , Polish: Bytom)
  11. Silesian: Psczina (Czech: Blština, German: Pless, Polish: Pszczyna)
  12. Silesian: Ćeszyn (Czech: Těšín, German: Teschen, Polish: Cieszyn)
  13. Silesian: Nysa (Czech: Nisa, German: Neisse, Polish: Nysa)
  14. Silesian: Uopawa (Czech: Opava, German: Troppau, Polish: Opawa)
TAGs:
all Silesian TAGs would have Silesian Ideas present except formable TAGs: Lower Silesia (Lower Silesian Ideas), Upper Silesia (Upper Silesian Idea), Silesia (united Silesian Idea) - these TAGs would receive completely new unique Ideas. All Silesian TAGs would have Silesian generic Mission Tress.

OLD TAGS

Formable:

  • Silesia - all provinces from: Lower Silesia area, Breslau area and Upper Silesia area
  • Moravia - current provinces in this area + 14

Available in 1444:

  • Ôpole - 1, 5,
  • Głogůw - 3, 6

NEW TAGS

Formable:

  • Lower Silesia - all Lower Silesia area and Breslau area provinces
  • Upper Silesia - all Upper Silesia area provinces +Uopawa (14)

Available in 1444:

  • Brosłōw - 2, 9
  • Ligńica - 4, 7, 8
  • Nysa - 13 (Clerical State)
  • Ćeszyn - 12
  • Psczina - 10, 11

Silesian generic missions:
  • Hussites in Silesia - change religion in to Hussite and improve your relations with Bohemia (+150)
  • Schlesiener culture - During the events and by completing the appropriate branches of the generic Silesian mission tree, it will be possible for a new culture to appear - Schlesiener (Germanic). They were German Silesians who created their own language and culture. They were German colonizers who settled in Silesia. Events and missions related to them would give the player a choice between the greater development of the province at the cost of adopting a new culture in a given province, and the preservation of the Silesian (West Slavic) culture - it would be the most historically compatible.
  • Coal in Upper Silesia - the emergence of coal in some Upper Silesian provinces and their development.
  • Unification of Silesia - creation of the Silesian TAG. To do this, you must be a country with a Silesian culture or Schlesiener, Administrative technology is at least 10 and you must have all provinces from the regions: Lower Silesia area, Breslau area and Upper Silesia area
  • Unification of Upper Silesia / or Lower Silesia - You must have all provinces from the regions: Lower Silesia area, Breslau area (for Lower Silesia TAG). You must have all provinces from Upper Silesia area (for Upper Silesia TAG). In each case you must have administrative technology is at least 10.
  • Independence from the Crown of Bohemia - the independence of the player of one of the Silesian states

    United Silesian missions:
  • Silesianization of Poland - conquer Poland and change the culture of Polish provinces to Silesian
  • Conquest of Bohemia - conquer Bohemia
  • Conquest of Austria - conquer Austria
  • Conquest of Prussia - conquer Prussia
  • Conquest of Eastern Germany - conquer Brandenburg, Saxony, Bavaria and Hesse
  • Silesian sea - conquer Mecklenburg and Pomerania
  • Lux Ex Silesia - Fully research all Institutions. Each province develops by: +1 base tax +1 production +1 manpower.
In regions with a coal resource and in Wrocław: +3 base tax +3 production +3 manpower.

    Prussian missions:
  • Silesian Wars (for Prussia) - improved "Conquer Silesia" mission
  • Schlesieners - change the culture of the Silesian provinces to Schlesiener
  • Coal in Upper Silesia - the emergence of coal in some Upper Silesian provinces and their development.

You would more than double the province count for Silesia, most likely making them OP for their size. And more importantly make Bohemia extremly powerful. I can already see this new bohemia constantly dethroning Austria in the HRE and likely eat it's neighbours after they munched on Hungary while they get ottomaned like usual. If you add that many regions then you need to redo the whole of europe i think for balance reasons.

But you have to remember that Silesia was the most urbanized and the most populated region of all the Slavic regions. He was a pearl in the crowns of the rulers who owned him and a target for their enemies to capture. It was thanks to Silesia that Prussia became an economic power. The fact that such a region with the provincial density resembles Eastern Europe and not HRE is a distortion of historical facts. Perhaps I exaggerated with the number of Silesian TAGs, provinces and the division of one Silesian region into three, BUT THIS IS MOST ACCORDING TO HISTORICAL TRUTH.

Silesia needs at least:
  • division into two regions: Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia / or three regions option: Lower Silesia, Middle Silesia and Upper Silesia
  • 2 completely new provinces in the Lower Silesia region (4 in total) and 3 completely new provinces in the Upper Silesia region (5 in total) / in three regions option the Middle Silesia have 4 completely new provinces
  • making the united Silesia more attractive (mission trees and events, etc.) / and potentially add two new TAGs for united Silesian regions: Upper Silesia (only Upper Silesia region), Lower Silesia (Middle Silesia and Lower Silesia regions)
  • generic Silesian mission trees for Silesian TAGs
  • at least 2-3 completely new Silesian TAGs (not all would be available at the beginning of the game) / or more
  • German settlement in Silesia - an event or mission thanks to which you would receive greater development of a given province at the expense of changing the culture in it (from Silesian to Schlesiener <German Silesians>)
  • Silesia adding into North Germany region
  • coal in Upper Silesia
  • Silesian wars (branch of the mission tree for Prussia)

This could be the content of the free "Silesia" patch. This patch could focus on making Silesia, Moravia, Nitra and Romania more attractive (missions & provinces, more cultures and corection of old cultures). In addition, this patch could divide the Germanic cultural group into three: High Germanic, Lower Germanic and Niederlandic.

Remember the devs said there will be no longer new provinces in the game anyway.
If each patriot asked for their preferred region to have tens of provinces, power creep would be real... (A game would lagged a lot more).

Doing accuracies is difficult , this is why when i proposal TAGS , i did it in the limite of the provinces. Some regions needs some rework and also some gameplay balance :
-Mingplosion for countries which deserve it
-Lets give some love for Scandinavia (aka the worst formable after Boukhara)
-Fixing some leaders (LOUIS XI of France !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yes i am a Spider King Fan Boy))
-Better Morrocan Revolution
-Letting some TAG appear because they were present in Real History
