Financial Districts Dev Diary #2: Free Update & Patch Notes

Greetings city-builders! Financial Districts is almost here, and that means it’s time for not only the patch notes but also the goodies we have for you in the free patch. While not as packed full of new content as the Roads & Vehicles update last month, we have a few new additions we hope you will enjoy.

Let’s start with the new visual options: the addition of 6 new Color Corrections. These can be found in Options under Graphics and tweak the colors and brightness of the game. Want your temperate city to have a colder look? Maybe more vibrant blues and greens in your tropical city? Or maybe you prefer more muted colors to capture the right vibe. We hope one of the new options provides perfect the look and feel for your city.

The new options include Cold, Dark, Faded, Neutral, Vibrant, and Warm

Each map theme has unique lighting which affects the final look when a Color Correction is applied, meaning your temperate city will still look different from a boreal city when using the same Color Correction. This allows for many different looks for different cities, and we hope this will encourage you to try the new options. Below you can see a few examples of different cities using the new Color Corrections.

Boreal with Faded (right), Tropical with Cold (middle), and Temperate with Neutral (left)

While Color Corrections affect the look of your city as a whole, this next addition brings more variation to the streets of your city. We’ve added more color variations for our citizens and 5 new pet options for your citizens to adopt - time to disable that Pet Ban policy! Besides two new very good dogs we have 3 new cats which can be seen around the city.

Meet your new fluffy residents

Sticking with the theme of variations we have added a way to select your favorite submesh variation for ploppable buildings. As the submesh variations are still quite a new addition to the game, this doesn’t affect many buildings, but if you have placed the Large Fountain Plaza from Plazas & Promenades multiple times to get the version you want, you’ll find this new option handy! The dropdown menu also appears on the Large Bank, which has 3 different glass roof options to choose from.

The dropdown is automatically available on ploppable buildings with submesh variations

We also have a number of bug fixes which can be found in the patch notes below, however, this does not address all the issues you have reported to us. We are still investigating a number of reports, and we will have more patches in the future with additional bug fixes. In the meantime, we thank you for your patience and hope you will continue reporting issues you encounter on our Bug & Support forum.

Woah, hang on. That's a pretty big issue upon release of the corresponding DLC...

I view it as an efficiency improvement. Instead of breaking old DLC with new updates, they simply break the new DLC the day it's released. Just skip that pesky time period where something works properly altogether.

The "Known issues" list seems rather short compared to what's in the bug reporting section.

Invisible buses, lack of inter-city trains at the monorail hub as a few examples?
Known issues only list new issues or issues carried over from the Roads & Vehicles update. Invisible buses are an example of an issue that carried over, the issue with the monorail hub is an old one. We do not list all open issues in the patch notes, but rest assured that doesn't mean we aren't aware of them.

I’m on Xbox series x and wondering if color correction will be on consoles or is it on pc only?
I'm afraid I don't have an answer for this as we do not work directly on the console version of the game and the implementation of color corrections for console would not be up to us.

While the Financial Offices specialization can't be removed from a district, it can be overwritten by another office specialization and the district can also still be removed. And it is very limited how often you switch a specialization on a district in a city since it causes quite a disruption to do.

Any news if Creator achievement (PC) is working properly again? That one was not working for a year. In the Roads & Vehicles dev diary it was said in the comment section to be a known issue, yet here I don't see it even mentioned. I suppose its already fixed?
It isn't fixed yet, but we believe we may have a fix for the issue. It, unfortunately, didn't make it into this patch, but keep an eye on future patch notes for a fix.

Aaaaaaand the broken airport cargo station is still not fixed. I think we can write off that asset as a lost cause at this point.

EDIT: Never mind! I figured out a solution to the problem. See this post for details.
We are still investigating this and testing a potential fix for the issue, but it did not make it into 1.16.0-f3.

Aware of bugs being “old” but not mentioning them or fixing them whilst pumping out new paid content every few weeks

At least last we got some free cats and dogs to keep the bugs company I guess.

It feels very negative and frustrating following this game, suggesting features, reporting bugs, etc. to no end. The current approach just feels like a cash grab so I will just move on to other games now and make this my last post here.

Console players have first person view or walking. Is there a feature planned for pc or a working mod? Also a district style for university ccp?

CCP's are not created by CO, they're not going to change it.

Besides, Uni City's buildings are generic enough to fit anywhere, it's probably the best CCP for that reason. The district style thing is just a pain in the arse (see Modern City Centre)

Agreed completely. Some of those "old" bugs have completely killed my desire to even play the game. Haven't played it properly since that first disastrous patch in September, which introduced a host of new bugs that still haven't been fixed. Now those bugs are apparently even too old to make it on the list, having been replaced by shinier newer bugs.

Why keep pumping out paid content for the game when there's such a huge backlog of bugs to fix?
I might pay for more content when the DLC I already paid for like Parks, Airports, P&P etc. work properly, but right now it feels like we're drowning in an avalanche of bugs and paid content. Each new content pack/patch barely fixes anything and sometimes even introduces more bugs. It's not even about mods any more, you're breaking vanilla and DLC functionality now.

First person cam? Is that planned for pc?
No, it isn't. Cities: Skylines wasn't created for first-person view, the buildings, vehicles, and citizens aren't of a quality where first-person view makes sense to us.

Regarding the "known issues" list the purpose of listing those issues is to let you know we are aware of them and there is no need to report them. Typically, those issues were discovered too late for us to fix before the release of a patch, which is also frustrating for us. The short time between 1.15.1-f4 and 1.16.0-f3 unfortunately means we weren't able to fix as many issues as we would have liked to. But this is not the last patch, as the World Tour announcement hinted at, we will have more content coming in the new year, which will include more bug fixes.

Console has 1st person cam. PC should have it too.

Many of the current bugs originated in 1.15.0 released back in September which means they've been "investigated" for 3 months now.

Yes, it is unfortunately not an instant process. We need to reproduce the issue, find the cause, verify potential fixes, and make sure a fix doesn't introduce new issues. It takes a while and we appreciate your patience. :)

What about district style for university ccp? Consoles have it. Right now this CCP is unusable mostly on PC. It’s also the biggest complaint on steam reviews for the CCP.

As the console version is handled by Tantalus Media, not us, I can't comment on the why or how of the district style that's included. But for PC it doesn't include a district style as the buildings in University City do not cover all the needed levels and lot sizes for a district style to function correctly.

In that case, Tantalus added something very valuable to the game for the university city dlc. Do you guys even read any reviews for things on dlc? It’s the biggest complaint for that ccp on steam. Building themes mod is not even compatible with the game anymore. The CCP requires it to be useful. Something should be fixed.

Honestly guys, the buildings from Uni City are so generic it actually doesn't matter about the lack of a district style, it fits anywhere.

We are aware of this, but I'm afraid the issue still remains. The pack lacks the required buildings for a style to function correctly on PC.
